I disagree that this needs to be handled like WoW. In WoW they had daily quests not daily achievements. I think there is an important distinction here in that you are trying to achieve something over the course of a day. Completing the requirements is just one part of the achievement. Completing it within the time constraint is the other part.
Now…what is a big problem is when a monthly achievement is ended a day early. I ran into a similar problem that Tera Gx ran into. I was grinding out all the pieces of the monthly achievement. The only part left was about 80 salvages and it was October 30th. I decided to head to bed and finish after work the next day OCTOBER 31st! When I got on my local time was still well before midnight. Server time is 3 hours behind so it wasn’t an issue of time zones. Anet just ended the monthly achievement early.
Some people told me “Who cares?” and to some extent they’re right. This is just a game and it’s not like this one event ruined my experience but it’s really kitten frustrating to be working on something that takes a full month to complete and to plan it out such that you know you’ll achieve your goal only to have the rules changed and as a result you fail. Not only do you fail but you wasted a great amount of gold salvaging items that had more value as vendor trash than as their components.
If someone from anet sees this post and feels like retroactively granting october’s monthly achievement that would be a really nice gesture. If nothing else I hope we could get some clarification on when months end if not at midnight server time of the last day of the month.
