The OP makes some very good points. Most compelling is the comment about the game feeling bland and vague and missing something. I really liked this game at first but now I find it lacks the addiction factor MMO’s must have. I suppose I am in the minority that does not like the graphics all that much. I dont find the world immersive and it lacks atmosphere. Some of the artwork is stunning, and Divinities Reach is amazing, but after a short while fairly shallow. Its pretty but thats about all.
I did something I was sure I would not do and tried playing MOP and immediately noticed the difference. Ok the graphics are looking tatty, but the game does draw you in and make you feel part of it, not a spectator. There is also so much more to do. I am not at all sure I can re enter the WOW fray for long but it does still have something.
TSW has me hooked, its incredibly atmospheric. I like its graphics, its voice acting and characterisation and it has a brilliant skill system. The instances are clever, and the game is challenging. After playing it GW2 seems really shallow and childish. Still its new, and has promise, so we shall see. Now I have purchased it, its also free. I cant help wonder though if that business model really promotes continual development and improvement in the same way a subscription model does. It seems unlikely.
The Secret World and I am still playing it along with GW2. Have played WOW since vanilla, LOTRO and Warhammer briefly and Rift for a while.
