The Biconics cannot carry the GW Franchise

I don’t usually write on the forums, but I found myself agreeing quite strongly with a lot of what has been said in this thread in criticism of the prominence of the “biconics”.

They are decent characters in and of themselves, but they aren’t exactly the stuff of legend and it feels a bit like the writers are simply forcing them into every episode even if it has to be in unconvincing ways, as if the story couldn’t go on without them. This sort of thing can strain credulity at times and actively turns me off of playing the LS when I notice it, though the LS has otherwise improved immensely in season two.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t be part of the story (even little side bits like the relationship between Eir and Braham which has nothing to do with Tyria but is nice all the same) but I’d rather they were woven into the fabric of the grander plot instead of being attached to the main thread every single time as my “special group of friends who solve everything”. If they were used more sparingly I could even see myself being happy to run into them when our paths cross. Apart from being more believable, it would also give some space for other characters to contribute (perhaps characters who are more deeply associated with the world of Tyria: orders, faction groups, shining blade, etc etc..)

For example, rather than having Taimi, a mere apprentice, being solely responsible for maintaining the entire waypoint network, why not have a small specialist team from one of the Colleges? Maybe Taimi could still be there out of academic interest, shown as keen to learn from experts (could even let her impress the pros at some point if you really want her to be special). By having a team from one of the colleges, you could then showcase the lore of that college, how they work, how they feel about the other colleges, and so on. Also an opportunity for a couple of special dialogue options if your character is an asura, but the main thing is making it a “Tyrian” story, not a “biconics” story.

That is the Hall of Monuments staff “Gnarled Walking Stick”. It’s a reward for getting achievements in Guild Wars 1.

I want to echo this sentiment. Thanks for continuing to give us such great content.

I enjoy the explorable modes, but the design of the new Fractals dungeon is just amazing. I was very impressed working my way through difficulty level 1, and look forward to seeing how high I can get. Definitely my best MMO dungeon experience to date.

Can’t wait to see what you guys cook up next for dungeons, even if I have to wait a while.

Lost Shores heads up....

ANet, I love that you want to evolve the world, and as a US player I will be able to make it to most of these things (although maybe not the Friday kickoff). However, for the really one-time events (as seems to be the case on Sunday) I think it might be worth considering running it not when you have highest typical concurrency, but when the most number of players can play concurrently.

Perhaps run the event Saturday evening US time (Sunday day-time for Oceanic players) on the US servers, and delay it by a few hours for the Europe servers so that they can do it on Sunday morning (Europe time).

If it really is necessary to run it at the same time on both US/EU servers for technical reasons or to avoid spoilers, maybe just run the finale on Saturday at noon instead of Sunday. The event series would have to be shorter or start on Thursday, but it would allow everyone a chance to see the finale and leave the remainder of the weekend for people to enjoy the follow-up stuff. Anyway, I’m sure you will do what you can.

Post here if you GAVE UP on the Clocktower!

Wow, some parts of this thread are a bit ridiculous. Heaven forbid that achievements are actually achievements. Josh the Clock Tower is awesome! I want to see more challenging stuff as part of seasonal events. The easy stuff is fun (Mad King says, scavenger hunt, etc) but there should be something there for those of us who want a challenge to make the seasonal stuff more memorable.

I was not able to finish the Clock Tower during the event, but that is okay. Sometimes being successful at something just takes a lot of practice. If you can’t manage it before the end of the Halloween event, just admit that it is beyond you for now and try again next year. The idea that everything should be achievable by everyone is just bizarre.

The only legitimate complaint is that there were too many people in each Clock Tower instance. It was fun to do it with other people because you could chat and such, but it should have been limited to ~10 people. It would be less fun doing it on my own, I would think, but having too many people did make it hard to see (although.. most people didn’t make it too far on any given attempt).

Also, they should make it clear which achievements are needed for titles, but that is not really directly a problem with the jump puzzle.

One Token to rule them all...

It is currently possible to get most armor types from multiple dungeons (I hope they expand this, actually). I personally took some time figuring out how to get a full set of armor with the stats I want, while also spreading out the time between several dungeons.

Now if someone wants a particular appearance, they ought to spend the time in the appropriate dungeon.

I think the dungeon experience would be more exciting and satisfying if players could not respawn and return mid-fight. I’m not talking about “graveyard rushing”, just the fact that defeated players can return to the fight. In my opinion, this should not be possible, especially in explorable mode.

Although if that change was implemented, it would become even more necessary to lower a number of boss HP pools which are currently slightly too high.

No one will do Story Mode!

My thought is to give ~30 tokens for the first completion of story-mode each day (and zero for repeats).

That is more tokens than we currently get for repeating an explorable path, so it will encourage people who are very focused on one set of dungeon rewards to run story-mode in addition to the three explorable paths each day. Or if they are just helpful players, it will reward them moderately for helping out others.

However, ~30 is much less than the 60 possible from explorable paths, and it would only be available once a day, so people couldn’t farm the easier story-mode for tokens.

I dont use Steal

Personally, I love Steal. Having an “ace up my sleeve” perfectly fits how I picture the Thief profession.

The fact that you can trait it for bonuses just makes it feel more exciting on top of that.
