Historically, I feel like the blast finisher on focus 5 was keyed to the explosion at the end if blocks weren’t used up. It seemed yesterday like the blast went right along with the keypress. Don’t know when it changed.
I feel like this was a stealth buff, and wanted to find out if I’m crazy and/or let other people know.
This is something I’m concerned about as well. If things like this amulet (which was going to be my next big goal) and the major non-legendary mystic forge weapons (like foefire’s power and volcanus) aren’t upgraded to ascended, then they are doing more to eliminate options for progression than they are to create them.
If you are going to diversify your dps stats, make your gems (or at least gem sockets) the items with crit damage and change your head/chest/legs armor to something with survivability (I like Power/Toughness/Vitality). Crit damage as a stat is much more efficient in runes/jewels than it is elsewhere.
Example of what I’m talking about so you can do your own math:
On a headpiece, stats are 45/32/32. If you go crit damage secondary, you only get 2% (instead of 32 in another stat). This crit damage is valued at 16 points → 1%
On gloves, shoulders, and boots, the stats are 34/24/24. You still get 2% crit as secondary. Here, 12 points buys you 1%.
On jewels, stats are 25/15/15. Crit damage is 3%. 1% of crit only ‘costs’ 5 of another stat.
They are from random drops, as stated before. You will not be able to assemble a full set from your own random drops. Go to the trading post and either buy the individual runes (safe way) or purchase armor with the runes installed and use a salvaging kit to get the runes out (riskier, don’t do this with anything but mystic or black lion kits or it will not be worth it).
I use something like this (though pve so different equipment).

+10% damage against foes that are burning, +10% damage against foes with a condition on them, and 15% crit chance with the weapons you are using all add up to a rather significant force multiplier. I didn’t originally intend to do spirit weapons, but I’ve found that they are quite good and made excellent use of the traits I wasn’t fully using before. Get a superior sigil of fire for the sword at least, and sigil of force for off-hand.
You will be squishier than most guardians, so its not for the faint of heart or for mouse clickers. You need to be spamming hotkeys. sword + justice give blind, mace has a block, and spirit hammer knocks down. If you aren’t using your active mitigations well you will probably be terrified. You still might kill them before they kill you, but it will be close.
For pve farming and exploring, you might want to swap bow for retreat. Against ranged mobs, the spirit shield or wall of reflection are both stupid overpowered. Hammer can get you into trouble in tightly packed dungeons, as you don’t have full control over the direciton the auto-attack will launch people.
