I’ve been playing since a month in to launch and of all the classes I have at 80 (engineer, warrior, guardian, mesmer) the mesmer is by far my favorite. I played a mesmer in GW1 and although fundamentally different they’re still my favorite class. However, when I look online there seems to be a hate towards mesmers or the idea that mesmer’s aren’t particularly useful in PvE encounters. Am I just unfortunately finding the vocal minority of posts on these forums and reddit that seem to dislike mesmers or are they in fact a sub-par class for PvE encounters?
Does anyone have any motivational words or advice to keep playing my mesmer?
When I’m running with friends/guildies swiftness isn’t really a problem, it’s moreso in pickup groups. I really wanted to know if the Traveler’s were worth it for the boost – I assume they are and the comments here have supported it. I’ll check out the other runes, but if Traveler’s are much better I’m sure I’ll end up going that route.
I have multiple characters at 80 but Mesmer is one of my favorites – especially for dungeon runs, however I find that the lack of a speed/swiftness boost usually leaves me behind other members of my part. Sometimes I can’t make it through the runs past the trash mobs and it’s becoming disheartening.
Is there anything to do for a speed boost besides Runes of the Traveler (at 10g a piece they seem like a lot)? I’m concerned that running Traveler runes will take away from either Ruby Orbs or something else I could run in my armor.
What do you guys do for speed or to help keep up with your parties?

I never really used auto attack leveling, but somehow thought it would be a bit more impressive at higher levels.
I’m intrigued to learn it … looks like the point of the rifle turret is to pop the toolkit skill then, rather than any damage it would do?

Pistol 1 is total and utter crap. It’s only useful if you are running a condition build and your condition duration is 100%+ for the bleeds. The rifle 1 is much, much better. I run a SD build with zerker gear and knights trinkets (all masterwork, since I just hit 80) and I crit for about 1k. I usually crit, so I don’t really know what my normal damage is, I guess around 400-500. Plus the attack pierces, which is awesome for an auto-attack skill!
Forgive me, what is an SD build? I haven’t seen a lot of rifle builds posted around – maybe I’m not looking in the right places though. Any recommendations?
I just hit 80 on my engineer and was wondering what other people’s auto-attack hit for? I have a set of berserker’s on and pistol 1 is hitting in the 200’s … is this normal for the level?
What are the arenanet points we get from doing dailies and other achievements used for? Or are they just a status symbol?
What karma vendor sells a Soldier Greatsword? I can’t find one , or is there an alternative you recommend?
