Thieves uncatchable?

That video, i didnt see the thief once …. its not possible to perma stealth. I know many combinations where you can reapply stealth but not continously like this. He is forever stealth or am i missing something here ?

Dealing with Thief in 1v1 Arena

Had a break for many months so i am not up to speed on my Warrior as i used to be, bare this in mind

Joined a 1v1 server and met a Thief that kinda ….well he facerolled me. I had no chance whatsoever to get him in melee. His spec was a sword dagger with a bow. My spec was greatsword with a dual sword which i use as a gap closer. But since the animations on warriors are so obvious and straightforward he just dodged away from every gap closer ability i had. Rush and bladetrail he avoided, switched to dual swords and used savage leap which he also avoided.

So basicly i ended up running after him trying to hit while he used his bow to keep distance on me, then he ported on me and used the flanking and larcenous strike on me and then dodging away.

I felt like a puppet running around not what to do. Maybe im a terrible warrior right now, which i probably am. But i cant figure out a solution to this kind of a Thief. He was toying with me. The only thing i can think of that i have not tested is a Axe build, but yeah. Any tips ? I read that so many are having difficulties with Thief. At launch Thiefs were the easiest to deal with, now its opposite. I read on Thief forums that warriors are the easiest for them. Like WTF

I honestly think 90% of thiefes are not playing correctly including myself. I mean sure i know what traits and abilities and what to do and not to do. And i can hold my own in sPvP with a thief, but im not playing them correctly. I have a hard time staying in stealth and get killed quite easily.

But that said, there are some thiefes out there that can make your world end in a heartbeat. Those who manages to stay in stealth and pop in and out of battle (as they should do).

Most thiefes usually just go for the backstab and then spam heartseeker. Thats about it. Thiefes are so much more than this with its tools and survivability. They are not meant to stay in melee as so many thiefes are doing right now.

My main is a warrior, but i had to say this. Its quite rare to encounter a good thief, but when i do encounter them, i love them hehe. Seriously out of all mmo’s ive played, Thiefes must be the hardest to play in a game like this.

What this post is about made me quit the game over half a year ago.
I think ArenaNet has done an amazing job with the Thief, Warrior, Ranger, Guardian in how they play out, theyre strengths and weaknesses. But the problem arise when you get Mesmers, Elementalists, Necromancers who are all about fooling you and spamming particle effects in the field.

I really love to see a melee vs a melee or ranged for that matter, but when you get these classes spamming clones which then in turn explodes into butterflies and then elementalists spamming tons of effects in your screen, it gets too much. Like wth am i playing ?

Ofcourse MMO’s like this should have magic classes but why not do the magic more realistic ? Why have this weird particle and sound effects on them ? It really destroys the feel of the battlefield.

Same here. Today have been alot of LAG but only in PvE and not in PvP. I encountered it even in instance of ascalonian catacombs as well, huge delays sometimes.

But now in the evening its disconnects and totally unplayable. Everything just freezes in place and then loose touch with the login server.

The ability is fine, its its usage combined with Frenzy which is the problem. Frenzy combined with a knockdown lets the entire move hit and with crits it will do up to 30k damage, thats more than enough to kill a player. And its AOE damage as well.

Its not the damage output which worries me, its the skill and its not only Warriors. Every class has some extremely easy way of outputting tons of damage, and the result is a zergfest. Taking down equal players in 3 seconds should never happen in an MMO.

Thief Sword/Dagger in PVP

Sword and Dagger is actually really good if you are “good” with the Thief class and understand it, which 90% dont at the moment hehe.

Flanking Strike is good for getting behind your opponent and avoiding heavy attacks from your opponent. Thief in melee should be focusing on backstab for heavy damage, not Heartseeker spam which only burns down your inititative crazy fast leaving you vulnerable as a bunny rabbit on the battlefield.
