After having now defeated this wonderful little guy a few dozen times, I’d like to give some idea of what I have liked, didn’t like, and what I think should be done in the future.

This boss has great mechanics. As someone who did a lot of raiding in other MMOs, I can really appreciate the amount of coordination needed for this fight. I have gotten really bored lately of “everything always dies sometime model”, like when you have 2 people fighting Claw – it takes forever but actually happens (pre-timer). This is just the right level of epicness for I’d say a normal-mode boss in this game.

What I didn’t like? Overflow system. Sure, it’s great to exploit when you have a guild and you’d like a server all to yourself – just invade an empty overflow! Want to get into a specific full overflow? Spam the join button! Want to get into a home server? Spam join button, or run in and out of the zone. Repeat these steps a million times, and maybe, after an hour (and stealing someone else’s place in the queue, which we know would have never actually put them into the server), you get in. Or, if you’re me, you finally get in when everyone is logging off for the night! This system sucks. The only way to actually get anything done is exploiting things that are obviously bugs. In fact, the one way to not get into whatever server you want, is often achieved by waiting in the queue like a good little boy and or girl.

Tips now? I believe there should have been instances of this encounter. Not as a world boss, but as a raid boss. As long as this crappy overflow system exists, world bosses are completely infeasible. There exist large masses of people who want to take down a boss? Let them do it themselves! Despite this being a 100+ person event, it’s amazing how easily a troll or clown turret operation can kill the entire fight. This is fine instanced – you can blame your guildie, and maybe even kick them. World boss? No bueno.

If you instance it, make a hard mode. For an organized group, this boss is too easy as it is. Improve the loot, add more mechanics – hell, make the waypoint further away for all I care. Right now, I feel like as long as you can hit 75% by 6 minutes, and have reasonably good burns, you’re all too golden. Need some surprise sub-10% mechanics!

Anyways. That’s my feedback. It was a fun fight, still is, but now I’m looking for more of a challenge.

It’s been mentioned, but there’s also a guild named [Teq] – Overflow One, that I believe is still taking members for doing Tequatl runs. We regularly down him, and have managed to set several of the records. It’s often done on Blackgate’s Community TS3 server, and always on an overflow (thus, any server can do it with us). We run generally between 3 and 7 PM PST.

I’d recommend going this route (finding a guild to do it with) over relying on servers, or overflows in general. Overflows are generally disorganized, but many servers can be just as bad (and sometimes worse). I got all my achievements (at least, the ones that require a kill) done in just a day with them. Ironically, after this time, now I’d love it if they made the encounter even harder just if they gave us much more amazing loot.

Guesting certainly has it’s place, for the sake of friends playing, etc. However, I would agree it’s abused. At this point, you can simply guest instead of transfer in order to play on an already overpopulated server. If you aren’t going to pull the trigger and buy the transfer, I believe there should be more limitations on guests.

Since these are -world- bosses, it seems to me that perhaps guesting would not elicit loot. Overflows should still be able to (as it’s not guesting), but I don’t believe that people should be able to simply “guest” their way to another server who has killed a boss, or regularly kills a boss, just to get the kill. Doing this also contributes to making their home server even -more- empty, and further overpopulates the already overpopulated servers.

Another alternative – grant ‘perks’ to those who do something on their home server, rather than guesting. I don’t know. I just feel like the notion of guesting more or less just consolidates all activity to a few dedicated servers.

At least half the events in Lornar’s Pass are broken, including the skill point mentioned above.

The skill point in Diessa Plateau (The butcher), is also bugged and preventing map completion. Honestly, I see more bugged events than I see working ones at this point. I can give a far more exhaustive list, but this wasn’t happening when regular restarts occurred near the opening.
