Welcome back Sil. I am sorry dude, it might have been a bit below the belt, but I’m certainly not picking a fight. In fact I’d much rather the thread got back to discussing Hammer’s, and the devs approach to them, in GW2. For the record I have no problem with the last paragraph on your views about hammer’s, and the devs approach to them, in GW2.
On topic, having read the post’s of this thread I’ve come to appreciate the opinions of those who want smaller hammer’s, and as such, I would have to agree with a lot of the recent posters here and say hammer’s need a bit more variety, and large, epic looking hammer’s are too scarce, and the ones that do fit the description, are extremely difficult to acquire.
Proxy you star, exactly the point I was trying to make. I would have to agree with all your points too.
You were just backing up your opinion with a picture before. I didn’t think opinions needed backing up. It’s all subjective. Anyway back on topic, again.
Welcome back Sil. I think its best we try get back on topic, and try to keep emotions out of things. Remember discussions like these have two sides, you are trying to show the flaws of my arguments, I am trying to show yours. Bashing the credibility of your argument is not me attacking you personally.
Come on people I didn’t mean to upset anyone its just a forum discussion after all. @ Surbrus, read my previous post.
I didn’t wish to upset you Sil, and I absolutely respect your opinion, however, to use realism as a basis for your argument, in the context of a fantasy game is absurd.
As for making a legendary pole-hammer, well yes with the right effects it could be nice, but in terms of hammer’s its become apparent that realism is just a byword for minimalism. Take the pole-hammer example you gave us. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. Very small, very basic. How do you add ( and what do you add) effects to something that is designed to be so simplistic.
Hawk I agree, I think the Zenith hammer is nice, but it could be improved so much.
Absolutely KotCR, that is a big problem. The reason I feel so strongly about it now is the Zenith skin could be fantastic with just a few tweaks. I know nothing about graphic design, or getting models in game, and I cant draw for kitten, but I reckon even I could implement some changes to it that would set it in the right direction at least.
What the, accurate portrayal of historical weapons fanatics among you seem to be forgetting is, this is a fantasy game, and those hammer’s you linked, no matter how real, look like kitten.
For you to come to this thread and and claim hammer’s are too unrealistic (in terms of size) already and that we need make them smaller is outrageous, considering 95% of weapons in GW2 and nearly every other sword and shield MMO decide not to adhere to the principals of realism.
If you do insist on being ridiculous, feel free to post a sketch of your pole-hammer version of the legendary, and perhaps your pole-hammer version of the zenith weapons. It’ll look like kitten, but realism in MMO’s is very important. I do think however we are going to need a complete weapons and armor overhaul, and dragons? C’mon.
Ill thank you now Kain. Unfortunately, although some of those hammers have relatively nice features, none of them quite fit the bill for the awesome hammer skin we have in mind.
Orangensaft, yer that particular one is perhaps more of a personal preference, but as you mentioned, the large head served as a good example for my arguement.
I don’t use maces so cant really comment on the looks of them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were as lackluster as the hammer’s.
I think the problem is, all of the really special looking hammer skins, like the ones I mentioned previously, are extremely difficult to acquire. The legendary is incredibly expensive (which is another problem for another thread, I mean what the kitten, here’s a legendary weapon to suit your legendary coin purse), the fractal hammer is rewarded through RNG, Mjolnir is very expensive, and the Cliffside hammer is not available to players as far as I know. I also noticed a very nice hammer in the Dulfy guide. The Icebreaker. What a superb looking skin, available to those who PLAY A kittenING DIFFERENT GAME WHAT THE kitten?!
It also seems like hammer’s can appear much better proportioned depending on the gender and race of the player wielding. Judging by the link given by Locoman, it would seem this is especially true of females.
Hammers in this game look like kitten for the most part, excluding Juggernaut, Mjolnir, the Fractal Hammer, and the Hammer present in the Cliffside fractal, used to free the colossus. They are, like you said, mostly too small.
This new Zenith skin has so much potential, but somehow the designers still managed to kitten it up. The head of the hammer should be much bigger, with more crystals. The Dragon Jade skin is very well designed, and looks nice, but why are the two dragon heads so small?
I mean really, did the designers actually take a step back and think, yeah, that’s awesome, the players are going to love that, just like they loved all our other hammer’s.
And we know its not a case of weapon designers in general being lazy, what with the Zenith great sword skin being so fantastic, along with most of the other great swords, I might add. And look at the Dragon shield. What a masterpiece of fantasy weapon design.
I beg of you Anet, please start introducing some decent looking hammer’s. We know you have the ability to create great looking weapons, and sometimes hammers. Think of the hammer users out there.
I have the same problem. Im running a GTX 580 on 310.70 with default Nvidia settings, no overclock. It started happening recently too.
I have the same problem, I can play GW2 for 30-60 minutes at a time then I DC, and everything else internet related goes down, for about 10 seconds, then it comes back online. I’m in the UK with Virgin Media. Nothing else gives me this problem.
