Too few players wanting difficult content?

Maybe you don’t realize how many people bought this game specifically to get away, not just from raiding, but the raiding mentality.

Surely you’ve seen what happens on these forums when someone brings up DPS meters, or gear scores. It’s a different game, made for a different audience.

Why can’t we have just one?

I understand what you’re saying Vayne. Just because a game would have some harder content for ‘elite’ players if you will, doesn’t mean a bunch of jerks are going to invade the game as it is today. ‘Elite’ type players are already here anyways.

I’d like to see Anet release a 6-10 man raid every 4-6 months or so. That would shut the people up who are wanting new content and new dungeons plus it would give another avenue for people to play. Even casuals could play them too. Have a regular mode dungeon or raid and a heroic style one. Or story and exploration or whatever they want to call them.

If they did this I don’t see how it could possibly affect the more casual gamers. Most, if not all other games have casual and hardcore types existing side by side, why not this game too.

Besides the hardcore gamers are the ones who make sure the trade post is full of items. It sure isn’t the guy who plays an hour a night.

problem is, we already do boring stuff to get what we want in this game.
Tp merchant game, boring(to many)
Champ train (boring)
EOTM (boring)
Ascended mats (boring)

Why are these boring things aok, and if you dont like them you shouldnt do them(even though its less effecient), but doing challenging content to get better rewards is inherently wrong.

why is inherently wrong that challenging content gives better rewards, but not inherently wrong that unchallenging content gives better rewards?

Well, the question becomes if it’s hard enough for the top 5% and 95% can’t get that stuff, you’re pressuring 95% of the fan base.

Would you rather lose 5% of your playerbase, or 10% of 95%.

I’m not saying those are the right numbers, but the idea applies. You don’t risk the bigger percentage, you risk the smaller one. At least you do if you want to maximize your profits.
So why not make it obtainable for both – but at different paces and maybe with some small differences?

Also the percentage that matters is the percentage that spends in the gem store.
HArper I agree with you totally. I don’t understand why Vayne has such a problem with their being something for more dedicated players to do.

If I am reading Vaynes posts correctly. He/She feels that everyone should be able to access every part of the game regardless of the skill level or amount of time the person has played. I see what he/she is saying but still…

Have something in the game for people who choose to dedicate more time to it.

These so called “few players” can go pick up Wildstar then, or play any Korean mmo in the market today. Guild Wars 2 ever since the start has been so relaxing, I don’t want to see it go along some hardcore path to get the best items that gives a significant advantage on almost all situations.

Yeah god forbid challenge in a videogame.

Not really the point. Plenty of people have challenging lives. They don’t need MORE challenge. Getting up in the morning and working is a challenge.

Every job I’ve had in the last 30 years has been ridiculously competitive. I don’t play games to prove myself or challenge myself. I play games to relax and unwind after proving myself and challenging myself all day…or I did before I was retired anyway.

It’s okay for people to play games just to have fun.

LOl. Come on Vayne. Do you really believe this? Some people have a challenge just getting out of bed in the morning? Give me a break man….seriously Vayne, you’re reaching with this one.

I don’t see what harm it would be to have some areas where people could work together in small groups to do more challenging content and get elevated rewards. As long as this content didn’t provide game breaking gear, what’s the harm in it?

I don’t get why so many are against this line of thinking. No one is advocating across the board harder game just some further challenges within the game as it is today.

I’m not reaching at all. Do you realize the age of the average gamer is now over 30. It’s a different generation.

Why do you think raiding games are on the slide. No one has time for that stuff anymore…well not no one, but much fewer people. We’ve grown up, gotten married. I’m 52 years old, not 16. I’m past the point where I need to push my boundaries, and you know, that’s strongest when you’re younger and fades as you get older…for most people anyway.

And more women are playing the game these days. My guild is like half women. Half. The women in my guild aren’t looking for serious competition.

I’m reaching because you think kids are the people playing these games?

Give ME a break.

I’ll be 40 in April. I’m not a kid either but I still like raiding.

I don’t understand why this game cant have things for casual players and for players who want something more to do.

I don’t get what the big deal is?

RP in a MMO

Instead of people who may or may not Rp in this game why not check out this site.

They role play in game everyday and can most assuredly give you better information.

I am also looking into RP in GW2.

How to start RP'ing

Before I first started playing GW2 I made the decision that I wanted to try Rp’ing so I did some searching and found that TC was the RP server. When I went to make my first avatar however TC was shown to be full so I had to start playing on an alternate server.

Do I have to be on TC to start Rp’ing? We have megaserver now so I guess it doesn’t matter?

Someone told me of a site called gw2roleplaying.com or something like that. Is that still a good place to start?

Do I develop a backstory for my avatar that I want to RP with before contacting people?

Basically if anyone can give me any direction at all I’d be very appreciative.

Thank you.

I don’t understand why Anet has a culture of silence when it comes to dealing with its fan base/player base.

WoW isn’t perfect but they have a steady stream of info coming out to let people know what’s going on. Anet treats us all like mushrooms.

Why?

more punishing world bosses

I think the lack of trinity in this game is what holds it back at the same time.

Anet can’t make the bosses too hard because of the lack of tanks to hold threat and take aggro. Along with that the lack of healers to obviously heal and/or mitigate said damage.

No player has any defined roles which hurts this game imo and makes just about everything a zergfest.

However Anet has achieved what they set out to do. Made an MMO that anyone can play expertly with little effort and practice. It’s basically a MMO for people who need training wheels with very little to offer hardcore gamers imo. That is their target audience, their company and their prerogative.

This is fun game, but lets face it GW2 doesn’t have or ever will have the staying power of WoW. I highly doubt they’ll have the player base they have now when GW2 is 10 years old. WoW does a lot of things right, they create content for every facet of their audience not just one or two.

I don’t see why it has to be an all or nothing approach which many here seem to suggest it is.

I think we can have content that is more challenging that provides greater rewards that aren’t game breaking with this content not being crucial to the overall game play.

Playing ten days and thinking of leaving GW2

No, I do. I got to level 80 in about 4 days or so. I have all 5 slots filled with alts at various levels as well.

I guess the jokes on me since they already have my money from buying GW2 a little while ago.

I liked the game just fine the way it was before this patch. Yes, I didn’t know how to do some things but I learn, I figured it out, it wasn’t that hard.

I loved that I could try out any class with all my skills unlocked pretty much to get a feel for what class I’d like to level up first. With these new changes I think the one 80 I have may be the only one I do actually level up.

I came from playing wow since vanilla and left because they made that game ‘dumbed’ down and I see they are doing the same thing here. I should’ve read more before purchasing because I didn’t know you guys were going to do this. Buyer beware I guess.

As an adult and someone who has already purchased some gems and has the ability to purchase more I have to say that you have turned me off completely and am having a hard time even logging on any more.

I also wonder why you, Anet, have been so quiet regarding the explosion of discontent that has been happening on the internet since the Feature Pack launched…Why are you doing this to the game? The game was fine, why did you mess with it?

I want to know why game companies who already have a great product choose to destroy their game as released at launch and turn it into something else completely. It’s not even like the same game. This sucks, I finally find a game I liked a lot initially and saw myself playing for years to come reduced to a shadow of its former self. It’s so soul crushing and heart breaking…I just don’t get it.

Seriously, if it’s really because you want to appeal more to other markets why cant you just come out and say so? Why all the secret skulking around? Be more open and honest with your player base.

Also why no PTR? Then your real player base can try out the intended changes to work out the bugs and give feedback. Be it positive or negative, it’s all important and will help you make a good game great.

I’ve been playing for about ten days now I guess. I got to level 80 in about 4 days. I will admit that the story stuff was hard to do all at once continuously because I had to constantly level up so I ended up not completing it yet. It’s still not done.

The story changes I think are ok, that hardly bothers me. What does bother me is the new leveling system. I tried leveling a few different toons yesterday and it was soooo boring. Auto attack everything is just terrible.

I’m 39 and not new to games but am new to gw2 but to be told I need to play like this because I don’t know any better is insulting.

Maybe some posters I’ve read are right. maybe the don’t care what the NA/EU players are saying, maybe it is all about opening up to the asain markets, I don’t know. It wouldn’t surprise me though.

It’s curious how quiet Anet has been since the patch dropped though. They haven’t said a word. makes me wonder if they are hiding or are they under orders from superiors not to speak on the forums?

In any case Anet, some of the improvements were ok and some were not so ok. So hit and miss with this gamer.

Are you trying to get to Southsun Cove? That’s the only place in that area that’s reachable.

Southsun cove, if you don’t have a waypoint, is accessible from a portal in Lion’s Arch. It’s near the fractals portal on the east side.

Excellent, yes this is what I was looking for. Thank you very much. Was looking for it for the train.

Awesome, thanks again.

I tried to get there from something Fen. Did all the quests there but couldn’t gain access. I even tried to swim but the system stopped me.

I guess it’s the quest chain or nothing lol.

Thank you for the reply btw.

Simple question. The Asura gate in Vigil Keep is always under construction so I don’t know how to get there. AFAIK the ship in LA is no longer there.

I tried using Google but that turned up nothing useful either. Do I need to be attuned to it or what?

I’m level 80.
