Question on white swords?

No more white swords means you won’t be able to tell if a camp/tower is under attack, but what about keeps and SMC? These may have waypoints that become contested if attacked. Is ANet going to change how the waypoints work, or will they leave this “beacon” intact?

Reward imbalance (Silverwastes vs WvW)

Yesterday, I did a lot of WvW stuff. Defended forts, used siege engines like burning oil, AC’s and cannons, and escorted yaks to forts. Then I looked at my inventory and it was almost completely full after only twenty minutes or so. This would have been amazing if I was doing WvW, but I wasn’t. I was doing the meta-events in Silverwastes.

Reward comparison (all info from wiki):

Silverwastes yak escort reward: ~18k xp, 378 karma, 1.86 silver and a few crests, sand and a bag of 3 or 4 fine, masterwork or better depending on MF.
WvW camp defense reward (there is no escort reward listed on the wiki): ~7k xp, 170 karma, 0.98 silver and a bag for about every other opponent killed.

Silverwastes Red Rock fort defense: ~18k xp, 378 karma, 1.86 silver and a several crests, sand piles and up to five bags of 3 or 4 fine, masterwork or better depending on MF. (Non-wallet bound reward increases with fort upgrade level)
WvW Tower defense: ~10k xp, 255 karma, 1.47 silver and a bag for about every other opponent killed. (Reward same regardless of upgrade status)

The criticism has been made before and will be made again, defending, scouting, managing upgrades and keeping siege refreshed is boring, tedious and generally underrewarded, if not unrewarded. I think what Silverwastes shows us is that Anet agrees. I’d estimate that on a per event basis the Silverwastes get about a 100% bump in reward with respect to a comparable WvW event. Also, the events come much quicker. I couldn’t even guess how much more you make on a per minute basis, but that is what Anet had to do to make a WvW experience that most people were willing to do.

Ultimately GW2, and most if not all MMO’s, are about investment, in time and energy, and reward. Got some activity that you want people to do? Increase the reward or lower the investment. I only do jumping puzzles for my monthly. I can about 1.5g in a pug-dungeon that takes about 10-20 minutes to finish. I now I can get an inventory of stuff doing similar activities in 20 minutes of Silverwastes meta-events that can take hours in WvW.

This post could have gone into the General Discussion as I’m sure it can be related to other aspects of the game, but I like WvW. I’d like to do the boring utility that needs to be done to help my server, but it quickly gets boring and I’m not rewarded for my trouble. Help us out Anet.

Grandmaster Crafter Title gone

@Valandil Yeah I just finished off tailoring, and was checking it then and it was gone.

@Wanze There had been a Grandmaster crafter achievement for when you had all six professions at 500. It was worth 0 points as I recall, just a title. Maybe they will bring it back if they give us grandmaster jeweler and cooking recipes.

I don’t know when this happened, but just as I’m closing in on my finishing off my last crafting discipline I noticed that the Grandmaster Crafting title went bye bye.

I actually like that matchups have stabilized with the emphasis on reducing the number of times you are competing with servers well beyond your capabilities, either above or below, but the constant repeats (I’m also IOJ; IOJ/BP/YB for four weeks) is ridiculous. Therefore I’d like to propose two changes to the matchmaking system.

1: At least one server from the previous week must be swapped out for a different server.

2: You cannot face the same server for more than two out of three consecutive weeks.

This would probably result in greater likelihood of more unbalanced matchups, but I think this would be closer to a happy compromise to the system in place.
