Hi.
I’m just wondering how much content this game has for a solo players?
Is there anything at the end game for solo players?
If I don’t have a regular party/group/guild/friends to play with, am I missing a lot?
Basically is it worth playing if I’m playing mainly solo?

Do you move while you’re in combat, or mostly stay in one place?

Do you use keybinds, or click your skills?

Standing still and clicking skills can make combat noticeably more difficult. Constant movement makes enemies hit less often, and using keybinds means you can react better to what you’re seeing the enemies do.

Oh, and just in case, do you play in 1st or 3rd person? (I know it’s not likely you’re playing in 1st, but that can do it, too.)

~EW

I’ve set my keybinds properly atleast for me (they might be strange but I’m a left hander anyway)

  • weaponskills, 1-5
  • utility, Ctrl+1-5
  • and as engineers have all 5 prof. skills, Alt+1-5
So I can really quickly get the skills I want, thou with engineer having so many skills hidden behind kits, turrets, etc. that’s propably causing the most trouble.

Also I haven’t heard much about whether people generally use the Action camera feature or not, but I’m using it which imo gives much more maneuverability. I would appreciate some opinions on the whole action camera feature?

I generally tend to move around with melee mobs, like when they are clearly powering up for a massive attack. Also I’m not playing in 1st person :P

One thing I’m having trouble with is that many enemy attacks (even when I’m kinda focusing on dodging their next attack or something) seem so fast, that it feels like it’s impossible to react to them with timed dodge, block, etc. It’s not problem with latency or anything because generally this game feels extremely responsive when it comes to server interactions. Also my reflexes are quite just fine.

I manage quite well against single/small groups of enemies in open world, but as soon as the fight gets thougher I’m kinda lost.

Also for my build, I have looked for some engi builds but I don’t understand that well how the meta builds work, but I tried to make my own build smartly.

My current build as engi is scrapper (for I like the hammer because it feels like heavy hitting, simple but versatile weapon with all the blocks, reflects, etc.). I usually use flame, rifle and healing turrets (for they are more passive instead of on long cooldown). the rest are elite kit mortar, and some other kit (which I usually try experimenting with). I’m almost always using the tools trait, for it boosts generally everything.

My current gear has power, tough, vitality. It doesn’t have much condition damage (at all) but other than the hammer, does engineers even have good non-condition damage dealer skills/abilities? Because I end up using a lot of fire fields and burning conditions because it still seems to kill enemies the fastest.

The warrior is another class that I like to play, because with greatsword it’s simple to play so I can focus more on the fight and reacting to enemies. Also I have heard that the warrior is generally the easiest to play, and engineer (with all it’s kits etc.). Is the gap between the skill required for some classes really that huge?

Well the thing is, I leveled my engineer with the level 80 boost token (thou I have leveled both to 80 previously so it’s not like it’s suddenly too complicated to play, also considering the time I have spend playing engineer) so it has really good gear for that level. Also I was recently doing the ~40 lvl story quest with the level 80 engineer, but still struggled to not get killed against two normal enemies.

Hi! I’ve been trying to get into gw2 from time to time, but I just can’t properly grasp at the combat. Which is propably strange because I’ve first played the game from the actual launch of the original gw2, and still just feel like I suck so bad at the combat I’m having trouble even doing my personal storylines (10-80 lvl ones).

I’ve mostly played as engineer (main) and warrior. And I know how all the combos work, how to properly dodge, etc. but still feel like a total noob, for sometimes I just die without the faintest idea what actually killed me.

With good reflexes I can survive against single enemy pretty well with timed blocks, dodges, reflects, etc. But when there are like multiple enemies, even trying to stay alive becomes difficult. And when I’m trying to go offensive I usually die in a blink of an eye before I can do practically any damage. Sometimes enemies just seems way too frantic with their auto-attacks etc. that it feels like theres no way to dodge or timely defend against them.

Also it feels like the enemies hit like train (if it was first thrown by a chuck norris with the speed of light), so I don’t know am I supposed avoid all the damage or just somehow mitigate it and/or heal through it?

I’m not trying to complain about the combat, but it seriously stand in the way of whether I can keep playing the whole game

TLDR: Been playing for a long time and know how it works, still getting my kitten kicked.

So any tips would be appreciated.

edit: grammar.

can't queue some ground skills

Thanks for the answer. I just tested it and it really seems like the Static Discharge was causing it (and other similiar effects will probably cause it too).

But the problem still exists. All we can probably do is hope that Anet fixes this issue. But considering how minor bug/glitch this is, it probably wont’ be fixed.

Basically some skills e.g Throw Napalm and Orbital Strike (both of them are belt skills), that are ground targeted, doesn’t get cast “queued” after one another. Because of this I’m having trouble setting up combos like Orbital Strike followed by Throw Napalm. The skills itself work fine but I always have to button smash to cast the Napalm right after the Orbital Strike. But some skills like the elite mortar kit skills, can be sorta “queued”. As in I can press the Mortar Shot skill again while the previous is still casting and it then casts it right after the first (without delay).

I’m using the fast ground targetting (“fast with range indicator”), but it seems it’s not related to the targeting method.

Has anyone else even noticed this? I find it kinda annoying because it often messes up my combos.

After further testing it seems it only happens on engineers tool belt skills. I can queue them after any other skill (grounded or not) but after any tool belt skill I’m unable to quickly cast anything else in succession.

Perhaps a class as complex as the elementalist just isnt for you. You should stick with warrior!! you seem to enjoy it.

Complex my kitten It’s utter kitten.

First of all… Great job with the elementalist class a-net.
Elementalist has always been my main class but it feels more like alt only useable for crafting, as it is utter carbage compared to any other class. They are weak, to output any accountable damage you need 120% of perfect timing and managing while being completely defenseless, and still you only hit as hard as armless granny flailing her sleeves. After I tried warrior it was like whole another game. I could actually control my character in combat while actually doing damage to the enemies.

As elemetalist I can either try to play actively (as this game is supposed to be action based I have hear) and try to dodge enemies and move and position myself on the battlefield, waiting for that one hit to get through to me and instantly kitten my character… or try to damage the enemy where I vainly attempt to do so while almost literally begging the enemy to kitten me as even the slightiest mistake can ruin my damage and cause my death.

I’m not saying their damage is bad, but the whole class is like it’s not meant to be enjoyed while playing as it. The skills couldn’t possibly be any more impractical.

For example the Dragon’s tooth on scepter. You need to some how hold the enemy still under where the skill was cast as it takes long time before the skill actually hits (which is way too long for an action based game) and it doesn’t hit if the enemy moves away from it. Sure you could use another skill to immobilize the enemy but that means you would have to use 2 skills in order to make that one skill hit for it’s damage which other classes can do with 1 skill without requiring almost no effort in getting the damage through. And the damage it does when it hits isn’t worth the effort as other classes can dish out as much damage without nearly as much effort. Well you could get the skill hit without other skills if you stood still under the where the skill was cast but then conveniently as elementalists have the worst armor and health you are dead before the skill would hit.

The whole class just still feels like, no thought what-so-ever was put in making this class. The class is supposed to be more difficult to play than the other classes. But it’s just that the class is so impractical and furstrating that nobody actually enjoys playing the game as elementalist. Like with the warrior, the skills should help me in combat, not having to put all my effort just to even use my skills as they are ""intended"".

Elementalist's current state?

So what’s the current state of elementalists in terms of class* balance compared to other classes? From both PvP/PvE perspective (and other aspects) or whether they excel or fall behind in either of them.

My main is elementalist but I’m considering rolling a new character as I haven’t played it for a long time and don’t want to make a “bad class choice”.

So basically I’d like to know is, are they in the same level as the other classes or do they lack in some areas.
