I really wish we would see an overhaul of military uniforms, but that’s probably out of the question since it’d take a lot of work.
I will say, the T2 human medium armor is for Shining Blade (dat badge) but we never see anyone in it. It’s a little sad. The SB colors for NPC armors are not great either — they’re a far cry from the original SB outfits of GW1 & what Countess Anise wears. If they’re supposed to be flashy (and a little gaudy) to represent the Queen as he royal guard, and that’s more for public face value, that’s great! But give us some not-so-flashy SB for the field.
Especially with HoT!
I have to second Draxynnic — I’d love to see medium/light armor military representations. It’s almost always plate wearers.
I’m aware that we haven’t been informed what they are, that’s why I wrote this thread haha. I actually sent an email to Anet and they told me to write a thread about all this so they could check it.
Hello, hello! I have a few Shining Blade questions and a little request regarding the NPCs in game!
So by now we have an idea that we might start seeing the Shining Blade take a more active role in the Living Story ~one day~, as there’s suddenly a real tangible mention of White Mantle in Maguuma (or elsewhere, dun dun dun). From a lore perspective, I’ve been dying to hear about what Blade people get up to since the start of the game, outside of the small bit in the Personal Story & the couple in Harathi.
My first question is: what the heck are the ranks within the Shining Blade? We know of two for sure — Master Exemplar and Exemplar. Are there only two? How would that even work?
My other question is sort of splinting hairs, so I apologize if this is petty to anyone reading! Right now, Shining Blade NPCs share the same armor model with Ministry Guard (banded armor) outside of the chest piece. This, coupled with the bright blue color of their armor (that doesn’t match their Blade crest/symbol) … they look pretty lackluster. They’re supposed to be the Queen’s Royal Guard, an elite fighting force, but instead they fade to the background next to the Ministry’s force.
Anise, the Master Exemplar, wears shades that match the crest, but her own people do not. I was wondering if we could figure out why that is or perhaps petition someone at Anet to maybe change it by the time we start seeing Blade NPCs more? The medium armor falconer coat even has a Shining Blade badge on it! That, mixed with a little pitch/black and midnight sky dye (or any dark blue) die could look rad.
tl;dr
Can someone at Anet tell us about the Shining Blade ranks? What other ranks are there?
Can we maybe change up the SB NPC armor to make them look different from Ministry Guard?
Thank you so much RubiBayer for keeping us updated! We appreciate this
Not gonna stop until we get some answers about this issue.
Anet, you already received massive backlash about lack of transparency. Can’t you at least extend the favor of speaking to people by talking to your RPers?
Bahati: Bahati agrees.
(And what gets me is that WvW people are complaining about it too but still no response)
Perhaps if we wish to be heard we need to keep the wishlist simple. This time around, just fix the whole custom emote whatever they thing they did so we can at least not break our immersion with every post we try to read. Really it is an assault on the visuals.
If they are going to go in and fix it why not just fix the ENTIRE problem? We support this game, we buy up everything in the gemstore (please never give me a total money spent anet, i would die), and we recommend this to our friends aka other RPers who want to play with us.
We’re not demanding “too much.” PvE and PvPers demand far more. Keep the pressure up until we get a response.
We need a way to actually log and save party chat and regular chat in this game.
I don’t understand why the combat log is so easy to read and then our regular chat isn’t? And why can’t we log it all?
This is broken, the range is absurdly huge (and needs to be scaled down to /say). Bahati: Bahati Bahati: Bahati Bahati Bahati: Bahati.
That has unfortunately always been there.
Still needs to be fixed please.
There are people on the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/GuildWars2) offering feedback on the emote changes via commentary on the post announcing the Feature Pack being live. I encourage you all to post there, as well as to nudge at the GW2 Twitter account (http://twitter.com/GuildWars2) to help encourage a change. As has been mentioned above, it’s the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, and this is just such a bafflingly terrible change to quality of play that it really needs to be remedied.
Quoting this because it’s important so people will see it.
As a roleplayer, I really don’t see what the big deal is. It just standardizes the chat flow for custom emotes. Nothing to be concerned about, really.
it’s broke in wvw, too. it’s broken. it needs to be fixed.
I don’t think RPers are asking for TOO MUCH by requesting that, when Anet goes in to fix this, they decrease the emote range down closer to the say range. We’re a very loyal community and we love our gem store purchases like crazy. We don’t get much and we don’t really ask for much. Fixing the double name with the emote range would be super cool is all.
Let’s get this fixed please! A stark hard to read grey emote channel with a massive range is pretty ridiculous — and see, it’s ridiculous for WvW people too.
Thank you Morsheira! I will try to continue to do the same.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Emote-Double-Name-Range-Problems/first#post4384282 We have this thread over here about it!
Yeah, agreed with all of you. The double name is pretty terrible but if they’re going to go in and fix it I would assume something like range would be kind of easy? I don’t know.
Anyway, we definitely need to hit them up on twitter, too.
Let’s just hope this doesn’t get brushed under the rug.
If they’re not going to speak on it in this thread, just start talking to them on twitter and reddit.
I don’t really mind the range of emotes. It’s things like /dance and /wave that the range could be shortened on. It doesn’t make sense that you wouldn’t be able to see an action despite not being able to hear spoken words, so /say and /me are fine as they are if you ask me.
But the double name thing is a really annoying bug and I hope it’s fixed soon. People with long names take up half the chat panel with their names pasted there twice per emote. Who’d think that was a good or even slightly intuitive idea?
Except PvP and PvErs get very frustrated when they run into RPers and have to hear nothing but blocks of text when they aren’t standing anywhere near them. This isn’t just a RP problem, it’s a problem for all players. Getting emote range in line with say range would be agreeable to all, probably.
And for the record, most of the time when I hear someone’s emote I don’t even know where they are. So why would someone’s chin scratching emote matter to me when I’m half a mile away?
The emote chat/channel IS a pretty terrible color at the moment. I know several color blind people who struggle with it. But that’s kind of a moot point all together, I think if they did what they did with combat log to regular chat (ie: different colors, vibrant, names have different colors based on class or whatever) it’d be a lot easier to read.
Yeah, the way emotes are set up currently is really sloppy looking, and even moreso, lacking in the functionality I think people actually desire: being able to block someone who is spamming. If I /cheer, and it’s untargetted, my name in the emote is not able to be interacted with. It’s great that if someone is customising or targetting an emote I can interact with them, but there’s still a huge problem here waiting to be addressed.
Also, please, yes. The range on emotes is just unnecessarily large and it’d be grand to see this adjusted.
You summed it up beautifully. The fact that you still can’t target regular emotes is kind of a problem since most people spam that.
Hello! I don’t know if this has hit your radar yet but custom emotes are in a silly state right now. The range is still massive (instead of being closer to the /say range, which no one benefits from) and currently if you custom emote it turns into:
Billy Bob: Billy Bob does a custom emote.
Most preferable would be to keep the first name selective as it is currently in game, but to get rid of the : and double name all together. If that’s impossible to do, I think
Billy Bob: does some custom emotes.
would be the best.
(And please adjust emote range to /say range size! Emote range is massive and contributes to a lot of angry RPers, PvPers and PvErs who feel spammed!)
hi all. so i’m really obsessed with this rad site called 8tracks where you can use your favorite songs and give it cover art like it’s a soundtrack of its own. usually i do them for my own characters/guilds/what have you, but all this white mantle speculation has made me pretty excited!
http://8tracks.com/viensa/w-h-i-t-e
i also co-run a white mantle inspiration tumblr but i won’t link that since it has some nsfw images. what i will say is that the url is pretty obvious if you want to check it out.
anyway hope you enjoy!
You’ve clearly never had to report or follow through with trolls if you believe reporting them results in immediate action and a cessation of their behavior.
It’s definitely a bummer not seeing RPers around in the world. Before, most everyone with a decent name was a RPer, but now I’ve seen people where I’m totally not sure — and I don’t want to risk bothering someone by emoting at them (especially with the influx of trolls).
Anything that tacked onto name plates would be fantastic, and not just for RPers. PvP oriented people, exploration oriented people, dungeon goers, achievement fiends, etc. If anything it would help us sort out the who’s who.
If they’re not going to give us a good way to flag PvP/PvE/RP people, they should at least cut down the say/emote ranges (and make ignore block emotes) on non WvW maps.
I’ve read through this thread and the other and I’ve seen non-RPers complaining about the spam of say and emote despite not being anywhere around it. Trust me, this is a RPer concern, too. It was bad before when say/emote was coming from any direction a mile away, megaserver made it worse.
RPers are moneyspenders
I wish companies would start realizing this. RPers don’t just sit in cities and roleplay all day. They play the game and roleplay. They buy items to enhance their roleplay, too. We spend money on this kind of thing because we love it.
I enjoy GW2 a lot but so far there hasn’t been much thrown to RPers. We have the bare bones to make RP happen and the customization in game is lovely, but when changes like this are implemented it hits the community hard.
Yeah, I’d love to know why. Uninstanced Salma being opened up would be great.
Then I have to ask what the heck are you using the say range for, and is your server very populated?
Because even when doing casual PvE stuff or running around, I can never figure out where someone’s talking from with /say. It’s so huge that I just have no idea.
I’m genuinely curious though, since you’re not a RPer and you seem to enjoy the /say range, how often do you use /say where you found it vital to have that much range?
I know that the devs have so many other things on their To Do list, but there is something that would make the lives of RPers waaaaaaaaaay better (and wouldn’t hurt other types of players).
-Shorter say range. That’s it! That’s all we really need at the moment that would make things a lot easier (and probably cut down on people trying to get into areas they shouldn’t be in just to get OUT of the massive say range). I’ve seen people argue that the say range is huge for WvW and dynamic events … but I’ve never once seen anyone use it for that. Ever. The appropriate channels are there for a reason, plus the say range is so massive that even if someone goes “hey come help me!” you spend the next five minutes trying to figure out where the heck it came from.
So please, please, please. Cut the say range down. I know it’s not as big as it could be, but it’s still so massive and on huge servers it does nothing to prevent confusion.
