Stats matter of course .. but having an increase of 0,5-1% in stats because of a FULL set of ascended armor, isn’t really THAT big.
5% dps increase for only weapon, and about 20% dps increase for full set of zerker gear however are significant.
there is no 20% DPS increase…
and 5% stat increase is not equal 5% DPS increase.
and even 4.9% weapon damage increase does not automatically increase your actual damage by 5%.
Try telling people that a 10% performance increase doesn’t make a difference as you ping your non-berserker’s gear and they laugh and kick you out of the party.
The point is that full berserker’s seems to be a free pass into parties but yet other gear is frowned upon. Also, don’t deny what you cannot prove. It’s easy to deny but it’s very unproductive. This is a forum. You’re supposed to continue the discussion, not kill it dead.
5% stat increase for power gives you 5% more damage. It’s a LINEAR damage increase. Numerically, a base 916 power stat would deal double damage if the stat was raised to 1832( an additional 916). Don’t give me crap about damage PER SECOND as berserker’s gear would increase critchance, giving your PER SECOND average a better number due to criticals coming into play. Now that I have proven you wrong, can you please tell me how you thought that you were correct?
Take it easy and take a break like I did for a few months, missing vital temporary content as well as items that could make the game more interesting.
The point is that this trend you see right now will simply continue because there is very poor ability for forums to be understood and managed properly. The forum is minimalist, simple and thus lacks complexity for the better posts/concerns to float to the top and allow CM’s to know and filter the concerns of the community effectively. The fact other forums are more popular (GW2 guru for example) than the gw2 forums , THE MAIN FORUM where discussion should happen instead of anywhere else, says a lot about the environment in these forums as well as perceptions of the forums that we have right now.
Traits
Right now for each trait you have to do something. Some of these “things” come organically – story achievements/dungeons(which you are expected to do as a part of the story experience- but more on this later), but some are convoluted extensions that force the player to do what you want them to. I’m fine with clearing temples for grandmaster traits, but for any trait below grandmaster, the gating system needs to be more lenient. They used to, after all, to be unlocked by a single manual. Don’t gate content that doesn’t need to be gated for the sake of forcing players to experience the content. If certain content becomes unpopular, then at least value the fact people are still playing the game, instead of thinking of ways players can be forcefully “guided” into experiencing the content.
Exoticizing Ourselves
It’s essential to have exotics to step onto the bigger stage. I asked a mega guild if they minded if a fully decked out rare berserker’s armor elementalist with exotic weapons could play a level 1-9 fractal with them, and they outright refused. They rather go PvP then low-level fractal! Each piece of exotic armor is 5 gold, which is 5 dungeon runs. Granted, it’s 6 days of grinding 5 dungeons everyday (3 AC, 2 CoF) to grab a full set of non-berserker’s on the TP now, but how is then meaningful progression? Isn’t that just a grind for stats and gear all over again? Ascended and exotic are tiers but they are essential tiers to the PvE experience to maximize characters. Are you saying that if you don’t grind, you can’t obtain the highest tier of PvE equipment? I don’t believe that is innovation at all, which was what GW2’s manifesto was constantly idealizing.
Finding the Community
Look at a recent post by “#1 Engi NA” Vee Wee – he clearly enjoys the grind and has an abundance of ascended gear – as he deserves, since he has a team of like-minded well geared players. We don’t all have that luxury. We don’t all have friends that want to run fractals from the ground up as they had done so when fractals first came out. It’s less than possible to find decent players to run fractals with as such players have already done the fractals, or are themselves subject to the whims of those already established, waiting to be dragged upward the gear grind. Many large guilds are just using the momentum of them being a huge guild to gain players but they don’t really give a kitten about individual members really. I tried making small talk but was of course quickly shut down because the guild already had an established clique of players, even though it was a “large, friendly guild”.
The Living World
The GW2 engine seems to be extremely limited to handle any definition or expectation of a “living world”. Lion’s Arch is still in shambles because there’s no update; if the world was living the guy still hammering away at the broken asuran gate would’ve affected it somehow by now. My point is that it’s unproductive to use nice sounding words that mask and betray player expectation. If it’s limited-time content then say so. It’s not a living world just so it can die permanently. I’m not calling for changes, but maybe a simple cycle of destruction/repair to be thought of in each living world update. Lion’s Arch, for example, can be destroyed every week/month as part of a similar chain of events. The world would be changing in cycles, predictable, but a living world nonetheless. This would atleast allow even the newer players to experience the changes they had missed in the game.
Content Renewal
I missed all the content that you had created over the entire span starting from flame and frost. It was part of a living world that died after it’s time had passed, effectively destroying the newest and shiniest content. I’d rather replacement than temporary resurfacing, if you catch my drift. Why can’t everyone experience the progression and direction of advancement this game is taking? What promise did Anet make that forces them to destroy their own content after the expiry date is up?
“#1 Engi NA” → This is so weird and funny on so many different levels I don’t even.
Yeah why can’t we salvage ascended stuff? IDK, maybe to prevent hackers from lynching older accounts and stripping them?
Lol, same problem since gw1. I don’t think they really care about us enough to have SEA servers, we aren’t that many anyhow.
-Dude, I don’t want to be explicit about it and make it like I’m talking to a clueless person, but you already proved my point. I’m talking about world events. Who are you killing during world events? The boss right? So, you only have one chest. Are you still following? Good. People are insinuating that being in a party will give you better Magic Find %/odds to get rares or exotics as a hidden factor. It’s not kittening RNG, it’s a kittening myth they are perpetuating.
Plenty of world bosses have lootable adds. All of them do in their pre- (and post-) events as well. Perhaps you misunderstood these players, or perhaps they are misunderstanding how it works.
-I’m not a kittening idiot. I know the game mechanics. I’m talking about rumors. So when people talk about better variance and critical hit ratios, it’s the unaccountables that we’re concerned about, not the kittening stats you can see easily. Once again, it’s what others said, not what I believe, so stop talking in the tone that suggests I’m ignorant. The words that suggest your tone are those like “so yes” and “you don’t”, “you”.
I’m sorry if you think that. Though I’m not sure how using any of those words you quote, especially ‘you,’ implies anything about your intelligence.
In any case, you said that people are saying you get better crit chance from ascended gear, and you do get better crit chance from ascended gear. Your crit chance isn’t unaccountable, it’s listed right there in your Hero panel.
Amazing. You are missing what I am saying. I know the information is listed in the panel, thanks for telling me how idiotic I am.
-Better “odds” at getting rares and exotics when you’re in a party
-Higher chances of getting a critical (10% v.s. 15%) for example, Damage rolls on a smaller variance ( d5 v.s. d3) for example.
These “beliefs” are not mine, but from strangers in map chat. They appear very often.
You don’t get better Magic Find (ie. chance of getting better loot) from being in a party, but you get more chance to get loot from more mobs. More mobs = more chances = more likely to get better loot. It’s how RNG works.
The stat Precision governs critical chance. Ascended gear has better stats than exotic gear, which includes stats like Precision, if they’re in the gear set. So yes, better crit chance from ascended gear.

Game Mechanics – The lack of transparency in game mechanics is easily captured in the fact the in-game hints for me is stuck at 91%. I have played 4 characters already and for 600 days. What other hints did I need to discover?
Look at the ‘Hints’ icon at the top of your screen, which has a list. It includes a specific hint for each profession mechanic. Since you’ve only played 4 toons, it’s probably the hints for the other 4 classes.
Community – I have never seen more rumors and toxic comments circulate in any other MMO. Some players claim to discover “hidden” features like “partying gives you better chances for loot in a world event” for example and insist they are correct – in map chat over and over again. This problem carries over into equipment, when players say that ascended equipment have better critical ratios, average damage rolls etc. as a matter of fact. There is a climate of hidden game mechanics and scheming “know it alls” that mislead the relatively newer players that is enabled by the lack of education that the game itself provides.
Not entirely sure what your issue is here. Being in a party does get you a better chance at loot. (This is because you need to pass a certain damage threshold on a mob to get a chance to loot it. If you are in a party, it uses your entire party’s damage compared to the threshold, rather than your individual damage.) And ascended gear has better stats than exotics. That should be obvious, you just need to look at the stats. Not ‘hidden’ at all.

Hi, I’m a filthy GW1 player of nearly 6 years now. I’ve quit GW2 on and off at times, making me a filthy casual of this game compared to the more experienced veterans. Regardless, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a problem.
That’s the gap between player expectation and game reality. There’s a trend right now for world events, and that’s “press 1 and reddit”. Most world events are simple enough that the activity portion of the world event is automated, move character to here, etc. queue the auto attack. This completes 6 World Events out of 8, conditioning the player to succeed with minimal effort, or even effort at all.
Guild Wars 2 has devolved into a cow-clicker, with the waypoints near each world events becoming the bloody building that takes 6:00 to complete a cycle of income. If there was a mod that put the world boss timer into the game on top of the waypoints, you would see the horrid reality.
So far, there is difficulty in implementing activity filters to events. AFK timers, etc. have long become obsolete and “contribution” is a set of numbers that need to be fulfilled. Make the game alive again.
Activity – There’s no need to make bosses more difficult persay (OHKO mechanics and deadly ground to demand players to move constantly) . Instead have players interact more with the events. Carrying things around without fear of being overwhelmed (like in the triple wurms) and Making players execute specific actions that don’t overtax the game mechanics (which as of right now are mostly working but vital elements like target locking are hopelessly broken) make the game more interesting and playable without making completion frustratingly impossible (See Tequatl with PUGs)
Controls – Where is the camera locking system that GW1 had that chased your targeted enemy for you? An “action combat system” is no excuse to force the player into manually steering the camera everywhere he wants to look. The mouse is an extension of interaction, not the absolute focus of interaction. Right now, moving the camera is basically the most important skill for your character to even work properly. That’s an overt focus, and does not synergize with the other control systems. Just because it’s a convention doesn’t make it the most effective. You’ll find that the third person cannot look for the first person accurately. There’s a reason why FPS are played in the first person. With the amount of character facing and awareness demanded of players, I’m surprised that viewing is so difficult. Bring back camera lock and auto-correction. The player is a decider, not an A.I. that executes everything perfectly. Execution has become too difficult for the game to even look like skilled players are playing it.
Game Mechanics – The lack of transparency in game mechanics is easily captured in the fact the in-game hints for me is stuck at 91%. I have played 4 characters already and for 600 days. What other hints did I need to discover? Is there a golden fleece hidden behind charr fur? The fact that the game can’t teach you things you need to know is already a symptom about a lack of clarity in communication of game mechanics. For example, twitching the camera will force your stupid character to cancel their moves since they have lost “line of sight”. The player cannot be a pilot and a driver at the same time. It’s ridiculous.

I know these are sparse suggestions, but I’m not being paid to fix the game. Forumites always tell me to get a life anyway.
Mad King is just mad, not trying to take over the world…..
In my mind he is still the real father of Little Thom.
Even with how the undead Elder was killed I was unhappy. It would have made it only worse if Kally became a freaking anime loligirl. No, please, Elder Dragons are Elder Dragons, Dragons, not metamorphs or oozes. They are the prime race(other than gods or titans) and will never take the form of any other creature.
Guild Wars is a western-reality style based lore. Morphing Dragons are a carry-over from Gods of greek(legendary creatures taking the form of humans) and is quite unintuitive! Dragon battles should be hopeless — People should be dying all over the place instead of being able to hide around like little leechers and getting their loots.
Make it so that taking down even a lesser dragon cannot be achieved without great casualties, but make it so that the whole world is gravely affected by the lesser dragon’s presence, so as to make the scale of the dragon’s power feel awesome. Yes, I used the word awesome as was intended. Anyway, right now the problem we have with boss battles is that its just tank and spank, where the tanks is your HP bar, and the spank is just waiting for people who know what they are doing to kill the kitten world boss.
They didn’t even complete guild wars beyond, so…. I doubt it alot!!
I loved Guild Wars. Enemies that died stay dead, I didn’t have monsters respawning on top of me and I need not worry about killing mobs as quickly as possible, which limited gameplay/play style.
Then Guild Wars 2 came along. At the lower levels, I killed things quickly, and was grateful: monsters respawned now. Moving forward was essential now, backtracking was almost deadly, especially in the bigger zones.
The world was very dissatisfying after my 35th world event. It seemed no matter what, the game was forever a “new player experience”. You did everything once, and then stopped playing or started grinding for 400 in all skills. You are as much consequence as you have money(gear, legendaries) and otherwise you are just another person. It’s like the real world, except it’s now in my game.
The game died after I completed(or rather, gave up on) the risen dungeon boss. World events were good for the one time, after that it was just a tag and bag. Dynamic events only frustrated me when I was overwhelmed easily by simple numbers. I felt not more heroic than a peasant and realized the futility of my singular existence.
The game no longer caters for it’s player. It has simply prioritized the masses because that’s where the consumption comes from. Alone, you cannot play the game properly. Even as a group it’s not that overwhelmingly enjoyable.
I don’t know what happened. Guild Wars 2 suddenly became a foreign game, maybe not even a game. After making my elementalist don exotic gear, I looked at the numbers in the hundreds, and logged off for the last time.
It’s just not fun anymore.
