The Historian - for people who missed content

My suggestion for how to deal with the removed content, without punishing completionists or substantially devaluing the acquisitions of those who were there for the event, would be to reinstate the content in a limited fashion for a limited time.

Say, a weekend event of some sort, for instance, commemorating the defeat of the Aetherblades. Dungeons and story instances would be available once again, with the associated achievements intact. Things such as holographic terminals could be placed back in the world in perhaps smaller quantities. Event specific drops would have to be adjusted carefully, so that the scarcity be maintained such that it doesn’t affect the perceived value, but would allow new players access, either through extreme luck or being willing to shell out the gold on the TP.

I think this is a reasonable compromise for all parties, but I feel that philosophical decisions will be bigger barriers than any implementation problems would.

Laurels and Past Daily/Monthly Points

Hey, all. I have to say I’m excited that soon dailies and monthlies will be their own thing, but I have to wonder what will happen to the points people have accrued prior to the upcoming change. They way I see it, there are a few likely paths to take.

1) Points from past dailies and monthlies get removed from a player’s numerical achievement score, and converted into laurels.

2) Points from past dailies and monthlies get removed from a player’s numerical score, and are not converted into laurels.

3) Points from past dailies and monthlies remain in a player’s numerical score, and are either converted into laurels or not converted into laurels.

Personally, I find the first two options make the most sense to me, primarily because by removing points accrued from those dailies/monthlies, I feel it allows the numeric score to have a bit more meaning. As it is, you can’t easily tell whether a person’s achievements come from exploring the world, conquering dungeons, participating extensively in PvP/WvW, doing the some fiendishly hard jumping puzzles…or simply performing a ton of dailies.

I can already sense some of the counterarguments against this idea, because people still earned those points, and some may place a greater value on the quantity of points earned, rather than the manner in which they were earned. There’s no right or wrong to it, it’s just a matter of how you look at things.

My own personal suggestion is that the points from past dailies/monthlies should be removed entirely from a player’s numerical achievement score. However, they should definitely be converted to laurels, so players will still have a vestige of that time that they put in, and be rewarded for it.

Anyway, those are my two coppers. And this assumes that those points are even tracked in the first place! I’ll be interested to see how this turns out.

I think the intent behind this event was good, but the implementation was lacking. Too much tedium in the events for too little reward. Fractals, however, is a nice idea and I am looking forward to doing more of that.

As of right now, my main concern is regarding the event-specific items, such as the skins and the minis. I can understand the reasoning behind removing the Consortium chests from the trading post, as those are fairly specific to the event. But I feel like after the event finally ends, we should still somehow be able to obtain those items, be it rare drops or mystic forge recipes. The zone is still there, the drops should be, too. Or even just add them straight up to the Gem Store, a Consortium clearance sale, if you would.

As it is, most of those items are cost-prohibitive for most people that might want to buy them, either with gold on the TP, or gems for chests with a low chance of actually giving us what we want. I, for one, collect minis, and would like the opportunity to continue filling out my collection, even if it means extensively farming karka. Just give me the option to do so.

Anyway, just my two coppers.
