Well thank you to everyone for your input I decided to jump in with the basic edition.
So far its all very confusing at the moment with a lot of stuff being thrown at me with not much explanation within the game as to what it is or what should be done.
I am sure I will pick it all up with continued play its just I am in the wtf should I being doing stage right now.
Hmm thank you for all the replies some things to ponder there.
As to what I enjoy / dislike with regards to mmo gaming, I love story, hate dungeons / raids that lock story content behind them, love exploring and finding new things and I hate grinding if it means repeating the same content over and over again just to reach an arbitrary mark of progression.
I have a ranger at 80 so I will be going back into the game on her to play through the HoT stuff initially and I guess I would have to try the Revenant thing after, it would seem rude not to hehe.
I did enjoy the journey to 80 and story stuff that I played up to the end of LS season 2 and I am really looking for that to continue I guess with out too much repeating padding stuff.
Hello Folks,
I am someone who drifted away from GW2 after the end of season two and have only recently returned to the game so I am quite a long way behind most of you folks I expect. Now I see a new expansion was released along with a new season story which needs me to purchase said expansion to be able to do.
As its been a good long while since I played it seems most of the folks I used to play with don’t seem to be on so I will be solo for sometime and I am concerned about buying the expansion and not being able to play the content due to difficulty.
So while I realise this is a bit of a subjective question in part I want to ask whether HoT is worth getting and will I be able to do the content without breaking my keyboard in frustration as a solo player.
Many thanks in advance for your input and taking the time to reply to my questions.
I don’t post here much but felt I needed to add my voice to this topic.
To keep it simple and to the point forcing me into parts of the game I have little or no interest will make me lose interest in the game. For me personally it’s likely I will simply move onto some other game that I find more agreeable.
Here’s hoping Anet see sense and change it back soon.
There are some valid arguments in this thread for both sides of the fence (also some I would just consider to be whining for the sake of it but that is by the by).
Anyhow FotM has been out for what three day or so and Anet have been a little busy running an event over those days as well. So personally I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and will wait to see where they take this once all the dust has settled and they have had time to see how things are shaping up.
I haven’t heard any of this on my server (gate of madness) but after reading this thread I am rolling an elementalist right away. I love to play the class people consider to be the weakest and least durable in any mmo that I am in. Makes things more challenging and therefore more enjoyable for me. ymmv
The elementalist is my favourite class in GW2, but you do get annoyed when you get yourkitten whooped in sPvP and WvWvW.
Well I probably look at things a little different to many I imagine as I don’t mind loosing as long as its fun. In fact some of the most fun I have had in an mmo has been when I have lost a pvp fight/battle as I have been trying everything I have in my bag of tricks to turn the tide.
On the other hand some of the most boring has been when I have been in a group that is totally dominating as that is no challenge, no incentive to be inventive with your skills and therefore no fun for me.
As I said though ymmv depending on what sort of player you are and what you consider to be a fun experience (and we are all different in that respect)

A server status on the launch client would be extremely useful in these situations as the error messages are less than useful. Needn’t be anything elaborate just a small box, green for online and red for off.
Would save a lot of time in the long term I expect
