So go back to SWTOR.

Why would i go back to SW:TOR. Did you even read any of this thread? I like GW2 and I think it is one of the best MMO’S currently, so why would I go back to a game thats in a state way worse than GW2.

So I bought GW2 at launch and played it for like 2 days before putting it down. To be honest, the only reason why I put the game down was because I was already running a guild in SW:TOR and was fairly committed to that game. However, I recently picked GW2 back up after bouncing back and fourth from WoW and SW:TOR. I have to commend the dev team over hear at areananet. I am absolutely loving this game, I play strictly PVP and have been a pvp player in ever mmo that I have played.

The thing that bugs me is today’s generation of spoiled MMO gamers. Coming from a pvp perspective, GW2 offers gamers one of the best PvP experiences you can get in an MMO. Yet, when I come to the forums for tips and whatnot, all i see is moaning and complaining. And most of the complaints are not even valid.

I understand that the forums if a place where people come to give suggestions and ideas about how to make the game better. But, the truth here is that every time
I come to the forums I feel like I’m wasting my time playing some trash mmo. At least that is how GW2 forum community makes it seem. Thats the end of my little rant, I just wish people would be a little more accepting of the game that the developers have created, BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!

I like how you generalize everyone and you weren’t even here since the beginning. If you knew half the lies we were told, completely idiotic balancing (yes, this is nothing. I’m sure you never met the bunker ele 2 years ago, could tank 4 players with little effort.). Many pro players left this game because of Anet’s extremely dragging balancing, so please don’t glorify PvP when it comes to balancing at all. And don’t generalize players who wasted 50€ to be lied at.

Nice of you to copy and past the same response as about 10 people.

It is awesome, BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS NEW TO YOU. You have fun discovering skills. You have fun pvping against other people and figuring outrotations. You have fun because combat is the most amazing combat ever designed (subjectively). You are paired with other low MMR people which makes it a fun experience.

If you were here and played pvp consistently for more than 6 months, you would notice the blatant balance and other issues. Once you play a bit more you will be paired with higher MMR player that actually know what they are doing.
If you were here for more than a year, you would notice the lies and kitten anet has been feeding us and doing just to make more money.

Sorry, but most of the complaints ARE valid. Some are very minor changes but most are actually valid because the high level design decisions are kitten. Now you say this is anets game, I agree, however if a company seriously invests into competitive PvP and esports (like anet is tryharding) then certain obligations come from this like:
– establish and maintain a clear communications channel with players as they drive the meta and competitive play = FAILED COMPLETELY
– balance the blatant balance issues = FAILED COMPLETELY/SOMEWHAT
– play their own game instead of looking blatantly at charts of data = FAILED COMPLETELY
– design systems that support competitive PvP = FAILED COMPLETELY (where are build templates, where are proper report channels and options for little kittens that ruin pvp/grief/troll, where is proper matchmaking)
– have a dev to communirt events CDI = PASSED
– use feedback from CDI = FAILED COMPLETELY
– on and on

So in my opinion it is not invalid requests and flaming and player entitlement, it is plain simple facts and obligations from a company that would like to do serious PvP which they don’t do.

Just my 2 cents

Common man, I’v been playing MMO’s for about 10 years. Figuring out rotations and beating up on people who arn’t that skilled in pvp isn’t what makes this game great. Those things take a couple hours max for the average MMO vet to figure out. Go play any other MMO for a couple months then come back and you will see all of the things in GW2 that you take for granted.

The problem is the game was better 6 months after launch than now. We used to have i game tournaments, the ability to queue from anywhere, leaderboards, solo queue, skill based game play and no power creep passives.

So you really cant judge having just arrived. People are mad at the live team for making the game worse.

Fair enough, but man some of these people on here need to tone it down.

OP: Totally agreed. There’s a sense of entitlement that’s kinda spun out of control. Here’s my theory:

So, when MMOs first really exploded and became mainstream, WoW was the big fish. Being the massive MMO that it was, it had a lot of different playerbases that it catered to. These players, who were initially amazed at what was possible in MMOs began to dream up of more stuff they wanted to see. As WoW expanded, players got more of this, but then more and more big companies started to give players what they wanted in different areas.

Was WoW’s story not done well enough? SWTOR swept in and did better.
Was WoW’s combat too slow and tab-targetted for your taste? Tera made amazing action combat.
Was WoW’s class and talent system to small and restrictive? Rift had you covered.
Was WoW’s competitive PvP too unbalanced and not esports enough? Check out League of Legends!
Was WoW’s grind for gear getting you down! Guild Wars 2 broke down that gear treadmill (mostly)!
Etc.
Etc.

The MMO market exploded with new games, but players expected that all these new titles would have the same level of support and degree of updates that the mega-profitable WoW had. Suddenly players started feeling like they could have their cake and eat it too, because look! That game over there has that feature I want! You should bring it to me in this game too!

And with all the competition, MMO companies have been pushing for more and more frequent updates. More balance patches! More new maps! More!

Players have gotten so much of what we want for so long, a lot of us have forgotten that all this magical entertainment is still put together by a team of human beings with limited time and a limited budget.

This. Exactly.

PVP sucks, thanks ANET

Yep. Everyone with their salty retorts are just proving OP’s point.

Have any of you thought that since OP hasn’t been playing GW2 so much, and has had experiences with other MMOs that it could possibly make him less biased and more objective about the state of PvP in this game?

No…you salty folks are right. I’m sure of it. Just whine more.

Honestly, the pvp in the game is in a way better state than the majority of MMO’s.

Complaining about things you don’t like in a game you paid good money for is toxicity? Ok chief. Although I’m not totally sure your not a bored Troll. Stick your civility lectures where the sun don’t shine. That toxic enough for you? As for it being A-net’s game if they take that line of thinking its the fastest ticket they could take to losing there player base and losing out on a lot of money. A smart company listens to criticisms from there players and gives them what they want within reason. I would never expect a doormat like yourself to understand that I know you are perfectly happy with whatever scraps are thrown your way.

Well you need to relax before you give yourself an brain aneurysm. You are the reason I made this post lol.

This game WAS amazing, it had probably best combat system, decent pvp balance, it lacked proper pvp system but it was still fun. Hot completely butchered all of it. Players got tired after 3 years and are not happy seeing their favorite game being completely destroyed due to dubious marketing strategies. You haven’t been there, you don’t know what really happend. I do not think you have any right to judge all players that have all the right to complain right now, imo. We all paid 50 euro so anet could kill our favorite game.

This is where your wrong. It’s not your game. It’s ArenaNet’s.

Where did i say it is my game? I said our favorite game…… l2read?

Ya I didn’t read your comment properly. However, I’m not trying to judge all players. All I’m saying is that coming to the forums to make a suggestion on how to make the game better is one thing. But, don’t come to the forums saying “PVP sucks, Thanks ANet”

There are many things to love about pvp in GW2.

That said, the dev team (and their managers) have repeatedly demonstrated a lack of … polish?

  • Visibility into changes is poor.
  • There is no Test Server.
  • Feedback from the most informed from the player community is either ignored or glossed over.
  • Balance patches are too infrequent, and the current model of huge changes every 3 months followed by almost no corrections is a flawed model, though admittedly better than what we used to have (which was balance patches every 6 to 9 months).
  • There is no clarity of vision for the various classes and what balance might mean
  • They leave certain classes at the top of the food chain for too long, while others are non-viable (also for too long).
  • They often show a profound lack of understanding about how their classes work and what previous metas have showed us.
  • There is minimal interaction between the devs and the player community. Evan and Josh occasionally post here (thank you guys!) but mostly we’re ignored.
  • There are still problems with matchmaking, leavers/afkers, and pip gain/loss that remain unaddressed (like people disconnecting during the 90 second wait period before the match starting, and the game letting the match proceed in spite of this).

On the community side of things:

  • We have too many players who have vendettas against certain classes and spout non-sense at every turn trying to get their class buffed and their hated classes nerfed.
  • People get frustrated by things, and have knee jerk reactions to over nerf rather than considering the repercussions of the changes that are being proposed. Sometimes there is a fine line between a class/build being OP and it being non-viable.

Just some thoughts from someone who’s played GW2 for most of the past 3.5 years.

See this is what I like about the forums. People that make sense and arn’t just raging.

I was on a team yesterday in RANKED (we lost) and I somewhat raged at our dragonhunter in the heat of the moment. He calmly messaged and asked me what he should have done and how he could be better. I asked him how long ago he had started playing PvP and he said only TWO DAYS prior and had only bought the game TWO weeks earlier.

Of course I apologized to him as I didn’t realize anet was giving me such noobie players on my team and I taught him a few things and even gave him a guild invite.

But my point is I’m in ruby, I have 2,479 games played, and 5,352 hours logged in game… Why am I getting placed on a team with a person who has likely played less than 20 pvp games? Does anet want me to find another game to play?

There is no L2P issue on my side that could EVER counterbalance this issue. This type of matchmaking turns the game into essentially a 4v5 (or worse than a 4v5 if he is causing enemies to rally).

This makes no sense.
a. You need to be rank 20 in pvp before you even unlock ranked pvp. (that is more than 20 games right there)
b. If your in Ruby, he would have to be in at least sapphire to be matched with you. You need 40 wins to make it to sapphire. at a 50% win rate, that is 80 games.

So, at the vary least, that player had played around 130 games of sPvP. GW2 doesn’t have an overly complicated pvp system. Three point domination. 130 games is plenty of experience to get a hang of the game.

ur either doing something very wrong, or extremely unlucky, I’ve never been even on a 5 game loss streak, the Pip system is a joke, the fact u cant drop tiers is bullkitten, how is it a measurement of skill if u only can go up lol?… theres very few who are bad enough to literally lose too many games to ever rank up.

however, wouldn’t say I have had problems with their Matchmaking on too many occasions myself tbh.

You can drop tiers. What game have you been playing.
