Good to see they’re on top of this and thank you for the advice. I’m going to do that right now.

Wasn’t sure where to post this, so if this is in the wrong place I apologize. But the goal here is to inform both anet staff and other players of a scam being mailed around. My friend received this mail and almost fell for it, then I log in 10 mins ago and I received the same mail. Don’t know if it’s from the same person or not. I attempted to report him in-game but since he hasn’t contacted me directly I was unable to do so.

Just a note to other players who may have or might receive this mail. Anet staff or any other game company will not try to get in contact with you through in-game means for something like this. You’ll get an e-mail about it. And at the bottom of the mail it even says “Note: This message was sent by another player. It was not sent by the Guild wars 2 team.” Vigilance is key people. I don’t want to see anyone thrown for a loop over this.

Every time thief is used as an example in a thread like this it makes me remember the fact that of all the thieves I’ve fought, I would only call 3 of them skilled. one utterly destroyed my medi guard and the other two came out on top after very long and arduous fights on my warrior. I don’t think it’s a problem with the class as much as it’s a problem with playing the class. A lot of what you can and can’t do and when is not immediately apparent. Thieves being very high risk/reward also makes things difficult to judge at times. Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

Every class has strengths and weaknesses, some are specific classes and others are types of play, but they are there nonetheless. In any competitive game bad match ups will be present. From fighting games like Street Fighter, to strategy games like Starcraft.
When you design a game where everyone is capable of different things it’s kinda unavoidable. learning how to play around them should be pretty high up on your “New class, what do I need to know?” list.

~“I appreciate the responses even if none of you know what you’re talking about, but thanks for taking the time to write anyway”, is stubborn and condescending and doesn’t convey the idea of such a ‘serious gamer’ that wants to get better. It sounds more like someone that just wants to complain after showing their complete lack of knowledge, experience, and understanding of the game. Sorry comments like this don’t make people more willing to extend a helping hand but they just don’t.

You’re absolutely right, but that doesn’t make it ok to lower yourself to that level. If the guy doesn’t want to learn then he won’t take me up on my offer of help. But if he does, I don’t want to be the guy that had the time and ability to help someone and chose not to. But this is a conversation for another thread, if you’d like to create one about the the morals of the gaming community (or lack thereof) I’d be more then happy to discuss this with you further. Or even PM me about it.

Come on, cut the guy some slack. Posting crap like L2P and smells like a noob not only doesn’t add anything to the conversation but it also makes YOU look bad, not the OP. Does the guy clearly lack experience? Yes, but that’s all the more reason to try to help and inform him rather then trying to scare him off the forums by basically saying “You’ll get no help here, move along”.

Anyway, back on topic.
To the OP’s point one. Mesmers can be frustrating, but that’s kind of the idea of the class. They’re meant to confuse you. That being said though, there are things you can do to minimize the confusion. Phantasms look nothing like the mesmer and clones are typically immobile and only auto attack. See one running? Aim for it. See one using a skill? Aim for it. If you get moa’d, run away from the point. By doing that you force the mesmer to decide between killing you or capping the point. Any competent player will let you go since he has something more important to do. If he chases you just waste as much of his time as you can and revel in the knowledge that instead of helping his team he’s running around chasing a bird like a fool. And the reason I touch on evasion last even though it was the main point there is because every class has access to it. Abundantly so if you spec for it. Not really sure what to say about that. Dodge more?

Point two.
This is entirely personal preference. Making the fights smaller will not make them more balanced. The reason for this is that certain classes do well and poorly against the rest. Just like in fighting games, bad match ups happen. And will in just about any competitive game you play.

Point three.
Again this is pretty much all personal preference. Now, about this pole thing. I played Lineage 2 for a few years and in that game even in very large multiple hundred strong fights a tank was able to redirect EVERYONES attacks within range to itself and then be healed by a whole group of healers. The result of this was that one person would take all the damage from 20 or 30 people and not die. But nothing could get done untill he did. That is something I wish to never see in any game ever again and is very akin to your pole suggestion. It makes the fights boring and drag on to the point that you might lose interest WHILE FIGHTING. I’d much rather have to look for my target instead of having that control taken away from me.

The only thing I’d like to say something about in your second post is that front line fighters are more prone to the confusion then someone who’s looking at the whole battlefield all the time. And you’re right, there are no two ways about that. But it’s something you have to deal with and has been an issue since the dawn of warfare. The only way to avoid it would be to not make melee classes. But that isn’t fair to the people that enjoy them such as myself.

If you’d like to add me in game I’d be willing to answer any questions you may have. And if I can’t I’m sure I can direct you to someone who can.

Well I hope this helps you out a bit, see you on the battlefield!

Make Daily Archclass instead

in PvP

Posted by: BeefyKnight.4859

BeefyKnight.4859

That would still have the same problems as the current system. Mainly that matches get flooded with whatever classes are the daily ones.

No. This suggestion would mean you get to pick from 6 professions

This has been suggested before but Anet always has to do it their own less efficient way

So you’d still exclude 2 or 3 classes every day, how does that fix the problem?

Why do players hate Courtyard?

in PvP

Posted by: BeefyKnight.4859

BeefyKnight.4859

People don’t dislike the gametype, it’s the map everyone hates. But since it’s the only map for that gametype people don’t have a choice and thus prefer not to play it altogether. It’s just a really poorly designed map

Little help with deciding a profession.

From what I’ve been told Guardians struggle somewhat in pve. I leveled mine exclusively through pvp so I’m definitely not an expert on that though. Ele’s are the hardest class that I’ve try ed to play mechanically. Mesmer can be a lot of fun but they also have a rather steep learning curve. If you’re new to the game I would have to recommend ranger based on your criteria.

Returning player, might as well be new.

Guardian of Angels gave some really sound advice. Unless you’re looking for help in a specific area such as getting better with a certain class or a certain gamemode, finding a good guild willing to help would probably be your best bet.

My understanding is that they just changed the drop rate. I don’t think they added anything that you couldn’t get from the reward tracks before.

Why do people NOT run meta?

in PvP

Posted by: BeefyKnight.4859

BeefyKnight.4859

I don’t play a “meta” build because it doesn’t suit me. I try ed shoutbow for a few games and just didn’t have fun. Would I win more games running shoutbow then my gs/a,s build? Maybe, maybe not. I’m the kind of player that enjoys relentless in your face aggression and anything involving a bow is not that.

Everyone saying don’t worry about personal points is right. I mostly play a high mobility warrior that excels at small fights rather then the larger teamfights. As a result of this I’m normally the guy running around wherever I’m needed, and then leaving the second the fight is over to go try to swing another one. What this means is that I almost always have the lowest points on my team, but that doesn’t mean I’m not contributing. It just means I’m not wasting my time standing on a point that is already being capped by a teammate. Personal points are a terrible indication of match contribution and I suggest you forget they even exist. On a side note, anyone that try’s to belittle you based on your personal score is ignorant and should be ignored.
