72 Warrior – 9/10
My Charr warrior is level 72 and I’ve run a sword and shield (secondary is longbow or rifle depending on what I’m doing) set up since I started at launch. I have to admit I’m a fan of the legionary look too (give my warrior a pilum to throw and I’ll be a happy Charr!) but that’s not the main reason for equipping the sword and shield.
The skills that they provide suit my play style. The build is quite mobile with two gap closers, interrupts such as shield bash and kick, and either banners or shouts for groups depending on what we’re up to. I went for traits to supplement the condition bleeds and and shield use such as reflecting projectiles (handy for those pesky rangers during WvW). I’m away from home due to work so don’t have my exact trait build to hand.
My intent was to have reasonable survivability toe to toe but to try to control the fight using dodges, leaps and interrupts. I’m happy with it, I’ve had some great small group and 1v1 fights in WvW and come off on top. It supports my play style and its fun, that’s the main thing.
I was having a similar conversation with a work colleague today as we are in the same guild. We found the limit of 5 was fine for the hit n run stuff we were doing but for organising a tower or keep assault it was more of a handicap. We’re having to run separate groups of 5 and co-ord on the guild voice chat.
Keeping in with ANets idea of paying for the commander icon why not have a series of ‘ranks’ available for a price that allow for larger party sizes? For example, pay xx silver and buy the rank of lieutenant allowing a group of 7. Pay xxx silver for the rank of Captain and have a party of 10. These would be aimed at guilds and so only those in your guild would see the icon, otherwise the map would be full of icons running around.
A good suggestion. I found my PC chugging a bit during some large WvW fights over the weekend. My system isn’t NASA spec but it’s no slouch.
I think Rift brought in something similar and iirc it worked well.
I never played GW so I had no previous lore exposure to draw from when choosing my GW2 race. I went with Charr because I liked the look of them, I’ve always gone for the warrior type classes in previous MMO’s and the Charr fitted that profession the best IMO.
Now I’m 60 levels in and I’m really enjoying the Charr. I’ve never been a lore monkey in MMO’s but I find myself wanting to know more about the Charr and their background.
Plus any race that has a festival of meat is onto a winner.
I’m really enjoying the warrior. During the BWEs I played a necro (which is my usual character type) but rolled a warrior on launch because of the versatility it seemed to have.
I’m using a sword & shield with either a longbow or rifle as my secondary weapon. The sword/shield suits my play style and I have good mobility with a leap and a charge, plus interupts such as kick and shield bash.
I’ve found the longbow good for group fights as combustive shot gives a combo field and the LB has good AoE.
The traits I’ve chosen (initially) are Arms & Defence. The bonuses for bleeds seems to go with my weapon choice and although I’m not going for an overly ‘tanky’ build I feel that defence is a must if you’re up close and getting your teeth kicked in.
The elite skills were chosen on the grounds of being useful either in large group events or looking towards dungeon runs. The artillery barrage was an obvious choice; The battle standard seemed to be a good choice for the group buffs it has.
