Don’t really get what y’all are whining about, elementalist is high skillcap sure, and slightly(!) underpowered, but ele does a lot of things better than any other class. Healing comes to mind, you can heal aoe for like 7k and still do amazing aoe dmg..

sure other classes are easier to get comparable results, but it’s a high skillchamp profession for a reason -_-

PS if you think that staying in one atunement does the most dmg, incl fire, you’re deluded. swapping quickly is the key to a good ele

On a side note, I do enjoy people complaining about thieves when warriors burst for just as much when spec’d glass cannon but have twice the base health and heavy armor, and yet do I go kitten up there forum? No.

a full glass cannon warrior can do about 14k dmg on a very squishy target with hundred blades, however, it’s the easiest skill to dodge ever and has a long cooldown. if he’s buitl like that you can 1shot him just as quick as if he hundred blades on you, and you will squish him like butter. A thief is always squishy, no matter what, but if you get someone in a pistol whip + quickness, you do about 10k damage in about 2seconds, and if you’re playing it right the enemy is immobilized and a stunbreaker won’t work, they also need condi removal.

Countering a hundred blade warrior is super easy, 1 stunbreak and you’re out, countering pistol whip.. if you don’t watch yourself for 1 second, he will do half of your health instantly, if he immobilizes you, it’s all your health. I’ve played against both, and as both, and pistol whip thief is the only class in the game that can burst people down pretty much instantly, while being pretty hard to counter if played right.

Let’s say you’re out of haste for the next 56 seconds.. so what? you’re still glass cannon and do 1k crits with shortbow from far enough range, and if anyone really wants to kill you you can jump away or stealth. Even without haste pistol whip outdamages anything else. every pistol whip is a 6k crit and takes 1.5seconds, no other class can do that.

First 5 hits do 1500-3000 damage
Last 6 hits do 4000-7500

Depends on amount of crits.

Full lvl 80 exotic berserker gear.

Protip: your iWarden is hitting for 350-700 damage per hit.

I’m not sure what builds you use, but ill happily film it if you want.

I’ve hit 80, done crucible, still like dungeons (just not crucible in particular, but there is always one). No offense but people are expecting this to be like other MMOs way to much, the dungeons are supposed to be a really big challenge.

I’ve completed all explorables besides the sorrow’s embrace ones, and sure i do like them. But there’s so many things that it seems they didn’t even try to fix, that could be fixes so easily. Why aren’t there waypoints after every boss, why is there only one waypoint in TA and HoW?

These are dumb mistakes that make the dungeon so much longer than it should be. There’s also so many bugs that screw with the bosses, so many things that have a LOT of potential but just aren’t finished. In a TA route, you have to fight four defenders at once, those defenders have glitchy animations and do a double knockdown that does around 15k damage and almost oneshots you, if there’s 3 of them at the same time, it’s incredibly difficult and the only way to win is to kill one at a time and reset. Why? There’s a difference between difficult and downright annoying.

In the CoE there’s a boss that’s invulnerable to attacks besides conditions until it charges into pillars, but when he charges into them it only works about 50% of the time, and sometimes it randomly gets knocked down. Fix these dungeons, they have great potential, but there’s so many small bugs and things that make them very repetitive.

I have done them all, but twilight arbor and CoE are pretty difficult, but mostly they’re just plain annoying. Arbor has so much poison, it’s not even funny, and it has zero waypoints beside the first one, add to the fact half of the poisonspwaning things are obstructed buggy and invisible.. Just unfun.

CoE, i ran it three times and it literally ticked me off of dungeons for awhile, they are just insanely repetitive and seriously no fun.
I enjoy difficulty, but it’s not that they’re difficult, it feels like they never even played those dungeons, because some area’s are SO buggy and not done.

i did enjoy arah, but coe and ta ..

Go 1hsword and focus offhand. In level 80 zones my focus does 40k in one burst in an AoE around it, that’s more than most players have.

I used to think the GS was horrible too, but once i got to endgame i started using it over staff. Now at first i thought it was horrible, and i thought the mesmer was bad at PvE too. I switched to a full glass cannon build, power precision crit damage% on everything. I’ve got a full exotic set now. Greatsword works a lot better than staff with that build. If you time the GS phantasm right it will hit multiple mobs for a LOT of damage. A lot more than staff’s chaos storm could ever do, because in the whirl it strikes everything around it 3 times.

I may agree with you on Scepter’s complete and total uselessness. My problem with the Greatsword is Might Stacking (something you want to do) prevents you from using multiple cooldowns (and that the only real way to AoE is on that Berserker, what happens when the target dies, it’s on cooldown and you have nothing )
Staff isn’t know for it’s aoe either, chaos storm has the longest cooldown of any mesmer skill, what happens when it’s on cooldown? As a mesmer you can still use your boon removal for a small aoe, and your phantasm really doesn’t have that high of a cooldown. Generally i just swap to sword/focus and burst the enemies to nothing.

Staff really has nothing for endgame pve, sure chaos storm is amazing. But besides that? The autoattack does less damage than GS with a glass cannon build, and with condi damage the staff’s damage is still less, the teleport is ok and the phantasm is probably the least damaging phantasm after torch offhand.

The Phantasm itself is actually designed for a Power Build, it doesn’t scale with condition damage. I tend to run staff for the mediocre non-target-limited AoE, as well as using it as a defensive point for Chaos Armor. If I can get a teammate to blast it off on us, amazing. If not, I Phase Retreat out of it, and still have my normal Chaos Armor waiting for me.

But then again, I use it primarily as a defensive weapon, because I like melee whenever possible :p

Sword is so defensive in itself i really never need chaos storm to escape, the 2s invulnerability is amazing. And if you like to melee and are dieing, well switch to greatsword, use your phantasm then knock them back, boom. Theyre crippled and far away. The 2 skill is also a random bounce on GS, and it does a lot more damage than staff!
Staff isn’t bad, but it’s damage can’t come near GS, it is more defensive though.(although the cripple is a lot better vs bosses imo.)

In PvE I’d say go full glass cannon, power precision crit dmg%.
I’ve been level 80 fro a while now, and at first i was specced into condi damage, i tried all different kinds of builds, full confusion really tanky but it never worked out, i had no damage output and was pretty useless compared to my party mates. Sure you never died, but as a mesmer survivability was never difficult, since well.. you’re a mesmer.

I tried full glass cannon, and since a mesmer has a base hp of 16k it worked wonders, i now have very high damage and my clone on dodge trait makes it so that bosses never focus me and I only ever die from mistakes. In general leveling glass cannon has always been the way to go, but doing so in dungeons on mesmer really works well.

Try Sword/focus for aoe, sword/pistol for bosses and I prefer GS endgame, but staff is alright too.

I’d like to add my voice to this request.

There really needs to be a viable power mainhand that is used from range.

We don’t need a viable mainhand,w e need a viable weapon. Greatsword needs fixed first before we worry about balancing the profession around additional equips.

Greatsword is perfectly fine if you trait right and use the right builds, otherwise i agree, it’s horrible.

We really do need a useful ranged mainhand weapon, sceptre has got to be the most useless weapon ever in PvE.

With 1 phantasm up i will always outdamage mind wrack.
I’m level 80 with full berserker gear, on everything.

My weakest phantasm, the berserker does about 6-10k for 1 burst, my strongest does 35-45k(focus), my duelist does 20-30k and the swordsman is realyl weak and only does around 3k damage.

If i use mind wrack with the trait and crit, it will do about 3k with 1 burst, which is what the weakest phantasm i could have up does. The berserker outdamages this by far, and having 1 duelist up does the same damage as about 3x a mindwrack with 3 illusions up.

I haven’t looked at the maths, i just know that when i tried my different builds, shatterbuilds came all the way at the bottom.

The only time i ever shatter is if i know my phantasms will get killed, and i really don’t need them up. But what i usually do in that situation is keep 3 clones up for a 3s distortion for in emergencies on very difficult bosses.

6k+ on Berserker, 2,4k per autoattack (max range), 1800-1900 each Mirror Blade hit. That seem pointless to you?

Your gear is far better than mine….which is sad because my duelist appears to hit for the same damage as your berserker and my warlock is getting WAY more.

Scepter for instance… bleh!

Yeah name the one godawful weapon.

Our MH weapon teir list atm is sword/staff at the top, the GS, then sceptre. The staff provides you with defences and aoe damage along with the warlock while the sword gives you the direct power damage and option for a real phantasm off your OH.

EDIT: The one situation this is sometimes not true is in PvE for which you can run GS instead of either of the other two weapons without taking to much of a hit, it can be worth it for a ranged power weapon though.

The berserker is a weak phantasm, but out damages warlock by a mile, with a full exotic berserker set it hits for about 10k on anything, my duelist hits for about 20-25k on any boss, and my focus phantasm usually hits for over 40k(they are so op lol.), it used to be not even half of that damage.

Also, greatsword has much more aoe than staff could ever have if you use it right.

You’re not supposed to run perma-Phantasm. The design of shatter or details like how Clones replace the third Phantasm make that very clear. They redesigned Clones vs Phantasms, and deliberately made it so that you can’t have 3 Phantasms up for long without overwriting one.

Staff, Pistol offhand, Focus offhand, and Sword offhand all beg to disagree that you CAN have three Phantasms up for long. If you need to use a utility skill (like a block, or a defensive Phantasm) to replace a single damaging Phantasm, the fact you’ve been running 3 solidly all along means that you have no issue pushing that button again to bring your running total back up to 3.

You can, and should, be running 3 Phantasms whenever possible. Unfortunately with Scepter and Greatsword, that’s just not possible.

This really has nothing to do with the greatsword, the sceptre is at fault. The sceptre is pretty much completely and utterly useless. You never use it, ever.

Sure 1h sword will always do more damage, but it is melee after all..

I want to add, that shattering is possibly the worst mechanic ever in PvE. 1/4 of a burst from one phantasm outdamages a mind wrack with 3 illusions up, why would you ever use shatter. The only time i ever use it is against very difficult bosses where i need the 3 second invulnerability to survive, which isn’t often.

Am I the only one who has found dungeons exciting and fun? True I havent done the explorable modes but they are supposed to be the break neck hard modes of the game. They are for well co ordinated and focused groups looking for a serious challange. Storymode though Ive found mostly fine. Sure we have had wipes but its hardly been zerging or chain running from the last waypoint.

Or a twin axe warriors really OP?

What in particular are people finding hard and what is it that is killing people so much? That seems to be the issue. Is it an error in how we have been learning the game or is there a particular issue that makes the instance unbalanced.

You guys should really give some detailed feed back such as which mobs and which mechanics those mobs have which are making it too difficult.

Im not a big fan of a cross the board nerf since I dont really like the idea of dungeons in GW2 turning into the same mindless rushes we see in other MMOs.

People seem to want better rewards, nto an easier dungeon.

Yes AC is very hard for the first dungeon in the game, but once you know how to you can
do any dungeon.

I have done almost every explorable of every dunggeon in this game once or more often, and I can tell you right now that AC is a cakewalk. i can melee in ac 24/7 with a proper build. In higher level dungeons melee is plain bad, the best tactic is to go semi glass cannon with 5 ranged people because the trash mobs die just about instantly.

However, the level 80 dungeons(and twilight arbor..) aren’t about tactics, they’re mostly about personal skill(some bosses do ridiclous aoe, everywhere, dodging is integral). And the first time, i enjoyed doing them, but they’re so unrefined and so difficult + the reward you get really is quite low.. it feels not worth it. if you spend 2 hours completing 1 cruible of eternity route and get all your armor broke.. meh ( i can complete arah with breaking almost nothing, but crucible.. man it’s just crazy )

I agree, they should be hard. But they need to improve on mechanics in some dungeons, in twilight arbor you don’t get a waypoint the entire dungeon. This means 5 minute runbacks. In Honor of the waves its the same, and in crucible of eternity you also have this problem at one point. That just reduces the fun of dungeons.

Crucible is also very very buggy in some areas and that’s a big problem.

I’m fine with the difficulty, but they really need to refine some areas.

The problem with the crucible explorables is not so much that you can’t beat him, you can. The problem is that there’s no way to beat him without graveyard zerging, if you’re unlucky you get crystalized and then oneshotted, there is literally nothing you can do when it happens. Some classes can port out, most cannot.
Add to the fact it randomly stands still, and stops attacking, and has some ridiculous AoE.

Also, the evolved destroyer in the crucible of eternity..
The design is so anti-fun you want to cry, i never want to do crucible of eternity again because of alpha and that boss.

He doesn’t drop exotics t all, i’ve cleared him about 9 times, not one exotic. Just another boss.
