I’d recommend getting Art of War researched to the point you can get Guild Bounty Training missions, since they’re a relatively easy way to gain lots of influences very quickly, you can use them to help gain influence for unlocking the larger guild vault’s.

Thank you for the insight, I will definitely start that upgrade by tomorrow! you’re all so awesome haha.

All things being equal (which they never are), my generic recommendation for a small (< 40 active members) guild:

  • Architecture I + Guild Workshop: allows you to work on two upgrades at a time; critical as you move forward. This one is worth helping along by buying influence from a Guild Promoter.
  • Architecture II + guild stash: there’s always stuff to share. Make sure new members don’t have access (for security). (Also worth buying influence.)
  • Art of War I, II, III + Guild Bounty Training: the training allows you to spend 300i for the opportunity to gain 3,000i, so it’s a great way to build up influence. Also worth buying some influence.

At that point, you should be in one of three states:

  • Guild is humming along nicely and someone has stepped up to handle the influence queue. -> You’ll figure out what you need.
  • Guild is humming, but no one has stepped up. -> come back and ask for new recommendations, based on what you guys are up to.
  • Guild is…not humming -> Sad Face, but the influence problem will be moot at least.

This legit is a great reply. Thank you for this. This makes a lot of sense and we will definitely focus on this method. I will be back later to express my gratitude if this works out, if not, I will still be back with more questions haha. Thanks a million!

Upgrades that work pretty much everywhere are decent start with one upgrade focused on pve/ pvp/ wvw thrown in the mix.
E.g.
10% Magic Find
15% Karma
WvW Fort +5 Supply
15% Karma
10% Magic Find
5% Kill Exp
15% Karma
10% Magic Find

Well, with me being the WvW guy in this guild already, I want +5. But, I know it will take a lot of influence that we don’t have at the moment. But we have a pvp boost already, which I was doing for a while. But yeah, this makes a lot of sense. My other leaders and I have had a discussion on this, and these are all things that we have talked about. I just wanted the opinions of others, so thanks for this one.

Personally I would focus on one area at a time.

PvE stuff is probably the best to go for at first, unless you’re a WvW specific guild.

Once you’ve focused on one area of your guild (E.g. Guild Missions, Banners) it is then worth moving on elsewhere.

I don’t have huge confirmation on this, but I’ve heard that the most difficult part for small guilds successfully recruiting and retaining is lack of permanent guild buffs. People are more likely to represent you if they know they’re getting a benefit even when doing non guild related stuff.

In addition to this, a lot of people are in a guild mainly for guild missions for commendations. You can draw in a lot of new guildies by advertising for guild missions and doing them regularly and successfully. It takes time to be able to afford all guild missions, so it’s worth focusing on them as soon as you can.

That is exactly what we were going to do. We wanted to get everything to at least level 1, then start hard focusing on certain things. We have a leader for every main aspect of the game, so recruitment won’t be the biggest issue, it’s just going to be getting people to stay repped I feel.

So, a few friends of mine are creating a new guild. We have had this idea for some time now, and we finally did it. We are starting to gain influence and recruit now, but we are having thoughts about which upgrades should be focused on the most at first.

I personally am a WvW player, but my other two friends play PvE a lot as well, so we’re trying to decide which is the best step at starting the upgrades.

Any one have ideas or how they had started theirs and actually didn’t give them much problems?

Why the hate for open field siege?

The only time I, as a commander, will use open field siege, no matter the numbers, unless they are less than my zerg, then I won’t, is when I am pugmanding and cannot depend upon them to do as much as an organized zerg could.

I will use ACs only in that situation. Never will I use ACs in a coordinated zerg battle, even if we are outnumbered, because that means nothing if you know how to play your characters and classes correctly. I am from a large server, and we are constantly fighting larger servers, and walk away victorious. We run 30-40 man groups, average, and take on 60-70 man groups.

Open Field Siege should only be acceptable if you are pugmanding equal-larger groups, or not at all. It is a way to win, sure. But was it a great battle? Probably not. I look for the thrill of the fight and coordination, not the volley of AC fire :P

Condition Duration Food

The reason for food in World Vs World is for the sole purpose of completing your build to perfection and to counter Zerg V Zergs. Some of them might seem a bit crazy, but they have a counter. It’s not like there is just a random + . . .% or a random – . . .% food that does not have a counter to it.

I actually don’t run a lot of food while I am running. I run a -% condi duration food that doesn’t make much of a difference, just gives me about a total of -75-80% condi duration, which most of it came from my runes. I run secondary foods more often than anything else, but that’s about it.

If you can not counter someone’s food, then you are doing something wrong. If you cannot kill someone that is running food, you are doing something wrong. A food does not make someone a better player. If you play strategically, and know what you are doing and when to use specific skills, you should be able to triumph over nearly anyone, unless they play their class at a higher skill than you do.

The must be a commander would be an issue as it isn’t very hard to farm the gold for a tag these days. The best option so far anyone has stated would be to be able to override someone else’s claim if you have more wvw related buffs active than the previous claim.

I feel like if your commander tag is up, and you have majority, as it is now, you should be able to override another claim. Because, then your guild would have to actually run the other buffs when most every guild only really runs +5

NO. One reason I avoid PvP is the lack of build diversity meaning everyone will use the same small handful of builds. Food buffs allow me to use a much wider variety of builds and traits then I normally would be able to and make them work.

Take away those buffs and many of those traits become much less useful meaning they will not be used meaning we will end up with cookie builder builds everywehre.

the 40 percent condition +/_ is not over the top. I have one build that uses the + and none that use the minus and do fine.

I find it as a safety net also, so you know that you don’t have to focus in condi clear, or in other boosts that would make your class / build less specialized in something. It gives you the knowledge that you can have the extra buffs with out the need to waste traits in things that would make you less than what you want it to be.

There is no issue with food in WvW!

Yes there is. The -40%/+40% condi food has always been over the top, restricting choices of other foods. You will always feel the need to balance it out, pushing it into the meta. Personally I think that the max should have been much more conservative. Look at runes. They dont reach anywhere near that number. Most having generic +condition only reach something like 15%, with specific conditions going higher at 25% tops. Same with -condition. Its nowhere near 40%! Why should food be that powerfull compared to runes?

But there is hardly any point in trying to argue with Anet (or anyoone else for that matter) about it now. They’re not going to “fix” the food. Best thing to hope for is always that they dont break WvW.

You’re a roamer aren’t you? I’m a zerg buster. I enjoy the ability to have -95% condition duration, without any other buffs minus the food buff. I’m a guardian, so I then can run Purging Flames, and get over -100% condi duration. It’s nice. I also am a Roamer, with a few of my classes, and I run specific food depending upon my situations during the day. I tend to use Lemongrass a lot, because of imob, cripple, and random conditions depending upon who I am fighting. It’s just a safe net knowing that I don’t have to focus my traits in condi clear when I can just buy food, or even make it myself, and know that I can focus in other important things. It’s not broken in my honest opinion, and you can say what you’d like. You have your own opinion.

Wow seriously?

So many white knights here defending this. I don’t find it enjoyable. It makes the game unplayable for me. I’m simply asking for an option to turn it off for myself. How does that take away from the people that do find it fun? I have to sit through something i dont enjoy or just not play at all so other people can have fun? sounds fair. I really dont think having the option to turn these things off for myself is too much to ask for.

I like the airplane noises my character make when running around. If that harms your delicate sensibilities, that I enjoy the sound effects and the spirit of the holiday, that is your problem. You should probably share your opinion constructively, without attacking and name calling folks for enjoying the spirit of the fun. (Ooooh, white knights, what an original and witty insult. Is that even an insult? does that make those with opposing opinions of a white knight a troll? Don’t knights slay trolls?)

And no one is saying you shouldn’t be able to enjoy it. We just want the option to turn it off from our end so we don’t have to see it.

I’m a roamer, when I’m in small scale, or 1vX fights I need to be able to see wind up animations to win outnumbered fights.

They understood the joke ruins combat, that’s why PvP got a pass. By forcing it on WvW players they are once again showing that WvW isn’t important like their precious esport.

There is no point upon picking on people who enjoyed it. Think, if it messed you up, how many others had you fought that also were messed up? Also, maybe you could have just partied with a few people and got away from your norm for 1 day. And I agree with what DancingMonkey said, there was no need for the name calling and calling everyone’s posts out that enjoyed it. That was extremely childish. You have your opinions, we have ours. I personally was neutral, I didn’t care for it nor did I enjoy it. It was there, I worked with it and ignored it. I understand, the animations were screwed up, that must have sucked, but guess what. Today, it’s completely OKAY. (:

THIS is why I love WvW so much. Those battles can happen at any time. I’m on Ebay, and we have a pretty good match-up with CD & HoD right now- I seem to find a fight like OP describes at least once a day with this match-up! IMHO, there’s just no way anything PvE related (or even PvP for that matter) can compare to the level of excitement a fight like that can offer. Can tier 1 and 2 get battles like this, or is it too zergy for smaller battles?

I’m in Ebay also! I think my favorite moment(s) in World was running with Cro in a CoT raid against I believe Mag and DH match-up. We protected Garri agains a 3-1, them high, by building ACs up the kitten We had ACs above lords in Garri Home BL, and just rained down on them. When the group tried to come up top as the rest of CoT fought in lords, everyone on ACs up top turned and focused 4 or 5 Sup ACs at the location of the steps to get to us. Slaughtered almost everyone and pushed them back out. Also, just some great times sieging Bay Worm Gate with trebs and ballis and ACs while fighting even numbers once I first got onto World, because I was so interested in learning EVERYTHING about world. Now, I pugmand once in a while when it’s needed, and am trying to get the RUN guild a better name with Afala. Don’t want to put any of our secrets on an open server, but all I have to say is, Afala has made a very evil plan to make us an assassin guild. >:)

I think I like these ideas to be available ‘simultaneously’:
1- Up to 5 different guilds can claim a keep.
2- Claims expire for a specific guild if that same guild claims another objective (like it is now)
3- Claims expire after a certain amount of time, like 60 minutes. I think 30 minutes requires too much babysitting upkeep.
4- Claims can only be made with a buff activated.

5. Must be a commander with a tag up. This would also allow people to notice the character on the map, such that they will be given away if they are being a troll, such as what this whole thing is about.

For the claiming, I think a better solution would be either allowing multiple guild to claim a structure or let a guild that has more/longer buffs active override a guild’s claim.

This and/or a structure can only be claimed if the guild has active buffs. It could be also automatically unclaimed, when the buffs are running out.

Honestly most of the time the only buff I see on a keep is +5 supply, rarely I ‘ll see a keep with other buffs on. This has been the case with every seerver I’ve played on in few different tiers with big WvW guilds caliming the keeps, towers etc.

Also, you can only claim if you have guild majority. Such that, if you have only yourself, or equal numbers as another guild in the keep / tower / camp, you cannot claim it. So, if you do not like spies and such doing such a silly / frustrating thing to your server, and if you have a big enough server, have some body babysit the lord / supervisor, and figure out which toon is claiming these locations to frustrate you so. Just an idea, that way you can report them or be able to keep a better eye on this person / these persons.

Food for thought.

There is no issue with food in WvW! It helps zerging, solo players, and roaming groups. If you can’t handle the fact that people have food buffs, then you shouldn’t be playing World. The point of World is to run in groups anyways, not to 1 v 1, so if you’re into stuff like that, with no food buffs, then go and play sPvP.
