- You don’t need HoT, but the new elites are pretty awesome. (Except Ele’s Tempest)
So I will be able to use the new Chronomancer build without it? Or I do need HoT to unlock that one?
Aside from chrono, were there any major changes to the mesmer class that made it more interesting to play? Or is it the same old shattercat-like builds that’s to be played?
I suppose Chronomancer is the new trait line or whatever it’s called?
Hi guys, old mesmer player here.
I was thinking to come back to play GW2, but as for now I cba to buy the expansion cause I don’t know if I will like it or not.
Question is: since I only play sPvP 99.99% of the time, do I need the exp to keep on playing?
What do I miss out if I don’t buy it?
Thanks
About the upcoming expansion, I see everyone talking about specializations, chronomancers and stuff… I admit I don’t know almost anything about the expansion but.. what are those things? Can someone provide a link with some info?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fzeromisbunker
Zeromis has a pretty cool bunker spec.
Tried this one. It’s pretty fun! Although, the damage output / outgoing condition is pretty lackluster, a lot less than the build I proposed.
Gotta say tho, that I asolutely love the cleanse on mantras (swapped out illusion of life in favour of Mantra of Resolve for more condition cleansing!), and the stability.
I strubble a bit vs some rogues tho, as there’s basically nothing I can do against them, besides standing there and soaking damage. Nevertheless, a good build!
However, I have one doubtw: how the flop is the sword+focus combo meant to be used? Do you lay temp courtain above iWarden? Is iWarden supposed to be used offensively or defensively? I’m pretty confused about this weapon :/
Does “Sigil of Renewal” count towards the “Mender’s purity” talent? Or is it just for the “heal” skill?
Np, all’s good what’s good, as long as we reach a conclusion about survival builds yes/no.
The active of signet of the ether instantly refreshes the cooldowns of all of your phantasm skills…I figured that’s one of the reasons you took it.
…. do you believe me when I say I didn’t read that part……
God I wanna punch myself in the face xD
In your calculations did you also consider the active healing that the signet grants?
Anyway no need to redo them again, but if you have a link available I’d be glad to read them. Btw, one of the arguments for having signet of ether, was the 3x condition cleanse on activation.
On a side note:
Now, the additional argument can be made that the phantasm refresh is worth the far lower healing.
I’m sorry, I didn’t get this point: which phantasm refresh are you talking about?
First, signet of the ether is an awful choice
I found the passive healing from it to be quite strong, combined with regeneration. Is it really so bad?
The first thing I will say is that tanking isn’t good if you are going stealth
The reason behind this build is not exactly facetanking like a Guardian would do, but more like avoiding and soaking damage with the insane amounts of boons it generates.
I can see the problem in using stealth when trying to hold or capture a point → it doesn’t work.
But to me, prismatic understanding was just too good to pass up. Given that I cannot generate boons through shattering (for obvious reasons), that was one of the effective options I had left. Also, that +300 toughness + 30% boon duration given by Chaos is really handy!
Looking forward to hear your and others’ opinions!
Is there any viable “Tank” build?
I’ve been tinkering around one for a while, and I have gotten… diametrically opposite results: sometimes it works wonders, sometimes I just want to punch myself in the face.
Usually, when I use this build, I focus on group fights and holding points, or having someone from the enemy team stupidly lose time fighting me while my team members are (should be) capturing points.
What are your thoughts about it? I was thinking of releasing a teaser video, but I believe it still needs some hard testing (especially from the pros).
Rationale behind some of the choices I made:
- Retaliatory Shield: with this build you get Aegis a lot of times. Combined with block from scepter 2, this grants you a lot of Retaliation uptime.
- Arcane Thievery: despite the high health pool, you’re very subsceptible to Conditions. Given that you “shouldn’t” be using Signet of the Ether active to heal, I found this spell to be a good compromise, in place of decoy.
- Signet mastery: should you need to heal, you reaaaally want this to have Signet of the Ether back ASAP.
Countless, that was it! Great, thanks!
I knew supcutie, not the other 2s, but the one I was looking for is none of them!
Any other idea? It had a single word name, but that’s all I can remember, sadly
I remember reading about some dude several times here on the forums, but can’t remember his name. Can you refresh my memory please?
I see. Thanks for the replies.
Glory has been replaced by PvP reward tracks: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pvp_reward_track
For Molten weapons, you activate the Citadel of Flame reward track and pick an item from the final chest. To pick a Dungeon reward track, you either wait for it to come to the rotation, or unlock it permanently by completing the respective Story dungeon.
That said, CoF p1 is so hell fast that grinding it daily is a better way of getting skins than PvP IMO.
Thanks for the answer.
But can I complete the track more than once?
The point of this post was that I really really really hate PvE.
Before I stopped playing, I remember that with mystic forge in HoTM, you could create fancy looking pvp skins with the materials dropped from the chests and the token corresponding to your rank.
Now that they removed that system, how can one obtain those skins that were once in the pvp wardrobe? (for example, the molten weapons set, of which I miss only the greatsword to have it completed :/ )
The typical Lockdown build is 4, 4, 6, using CI, BI, DE, boon remove on shatter, with either staff, GS, sword/focus, or possibly pistol.
Ok so, I tried this build, with staff + sword / focus. (tried as in, I tested vs the fighting npcs in HoTM).
How the kitten does it work? I literally can’t wrap my mind around it. Does one open with sword 3? Or curtain?
Also, it’s kitten hard to spot when to interrupt without an enemy casting bar. How does one go at it?
Thank you all for the replies.
It is the opinion of the “elite” top tier, competative, torny scene mesmers that 4, 4, 0, 0, 6 IP shatter is the ONLY!!! viable mesmer build to run. Many fans, non-mesmers, and casuals repeat the same thing they’ve heard from these aforementioned mesmers. Keeping in mind that hand in hand with this opinion is that Mesmer, and by this I mean IP shatter mesmer has fallen out of the meta (is not viable) any longer in top tier competitive pvp, which is largly due to the hard counter thieves present to that particular build.
All that said, it is the opinion of many other long standing mesmer mains, with as much experience with the class (though not in torny teams) that at least CI lockdown is not only viable, but far superior to shatter for various reasons, and in various ways. And at least one Mesmer (that’d be me) that a CS Mesmer is as viable in competitive play. There is also an a growing trend toward lockdown within the Mesmer community/playerbase, and adjustment in thinking taking place along these lines.
The typical Lockdown build is 4, 4, 6, using CI, BI, DE, boon remove on shatter, with either staff, GS, sword/focus, or possibly pistol.
CS is 6, 6, X, sword/sword scepter/pistol.
There was a recent discussion here you can get some more opinions regarding this topic
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/PVP-4-4-6-0-0-CI-vs-4-4-0-0-6-Shatter/firstThat’s my view on the matter anyway.
Man, those acronyms are killing me.
Nice insight tho, I guess I will try out lockdown. So far I’ve found a condition heavy build that I happen to like (2-6-4-2 with 3 signets and stuff, Sword/pistol + staff.
I was also thinking about trying a torment based build with the Maim the disillusioned trait. Is it any good?
As title says. I came back after a long break and I was wondering if shatter is still the way to go.
I really dislike the playstyle and I would enjoy a lot more if I could play some heavy CC (lockdown?) or heavy condition build.
Any suggestion?
Nice, thanks!

Thanks for the replies, both of you.
Is there a website where I can check a list of popular builds?
I used to run a lockdown build with Staff + sword/pistol and using sigil of stuns (w/e they’re called), altho I’m betting it’s not gonna be as effective anymore.
Hi fellow mesmers! As title says, I’m coming back to GW2 after a looooong break.
I have 2 questions: what’s the current state of mesmers in PvP and/or what builds get played right now?
The second question is related to PvP skins: I’ve seen that they merged all equips and removed the PvP crafting system (dumb idea imho).
So I was wondering, are PvPers now forced to play PvE to get new armor skins (such as this one I have)?
‘Sup guys, I’ve just come back from a long break, and I haven’t found yet a build that I like.
As far as I know, apparently we’ve been pigeon-holed into Prismatic Understanding builds, because hey, a hambow warrior, kthxbai im ded.
Altho I don’t like this style, and I find it lacks quite some good damage. What I’m asking is, is there anything else viable right now? I’ve tried around some lockdown builds, but they quite don’t seem to deliver / get rotflpwnd by other professions.
Cheers
Are you looking to do solo queue or team queue with an organized team (soloing team queue counts as solo queue)? If solo queue, check the link in my sig.
thanks bro
Gonna check on that, thank you
