The amount of reduction in money and karma when playing in a lower level zone is pretty minimal.
For the time and effort it takes to do events in Orr, I would much rather head to the other lower level areas (where maybe I didn’t feel I experienced all the various DE’s) and do those DE’s. It’s like a 10-20c difference (I haven’t checked karma.) But the events are way easier too. I can solo a FEW of the events in Orr, but I can solo almost all the events in the low level zones, with some of the Large world scale events being not quite so soloable. But in low level zones even some of those are soloable… for me that’s a good trade off. This means I get all the mob exp, I almost always get gold, and I mean come on, how awesome is it to know that I single-handedly kept the flame legion from taking over?!
Remember this game isn’t meant to be ground, it’s meant to be PLAYED. Have fun with it and you will find that even though it may take you a bit longer to get the things you wanted, you don’t feel like you wasted weeks of your life grinding mindlessly, but rather that you enjoyed it. Suddenly that legendary goes from being something you had to put up with hours of boredom to get, to something you earned by keeping Tyria safe from all it’s threats.
I’m sorry, but to me, the second option sound like a much better accomplishment.
When you go to low level zones, Lousy rewards and a lack of progresion reduces the fun for a vast number of MMo players. Sorry if this is new news to you. You shouldn’t get equal karma when everything is easier, but don’t expect most players to bother going back with max lvl toons. Ndont call it content, because it really isn’t.
I am a max level toon. I have been for several weeks. It’s still content. If others fail to see it as content, that’s not my problem, it’s theirs.
I however, do not really see the content portion of Orr. The only events I see (and I’m there for hours) are repeats of prior events, and progression through the area, which ultimately gets halted, and was pointless to begin with. Many of which I have to attempt solo because of how few people are there. But I could be prejudice. I don’t like Orr, it’s dark, it’s danky, the mobs are too close together, and it sucks. I’ve never liked zombies, why would I start now?
There are MANY very interesting events in low level maps, with chains and story behind them. There is one in a charr zone(can’t remember, maybe Fireheart Rise) where the goal is to free the grawl camps from rule of the flame legion, harpies, and I think fire elementals. Doing it solo means I get gold on each camp, then when they are retaken because I was too slow, I get gold AGAIN for each camp. (up to 6 gold now in about 10 minutes) Then I get to do a caravan to the statue to make one camp bow down in awe of our power. (I even get to say things at them through said statue, which is pretty cool)
That’s just one event chain, in one, mid-level zone. There are similar event chains in lower level zones if you take the time to stop and look.
How much gold do you make farming these events though? How many lvl 80 rares do you see drop? Sure on your server 6 golds may seem like a lot but it’s roughly equal to that on higher pop servers in Cursed Shore. As I said earlier theres generally 15 ppl+ running the same events at almost all times during the day. So finding ppl isn’t a factor on higher pop servers.
Plus these events give better reward and you find better loot doing them.
It is not effecient to farm where you want. If you’ve been around Cursed shore for awhile you know the events.. theres generally 15 ppl doing the most effecient ones all at once. You can make 5g+ a day farming for a few hours by all the equal level loot and rares can you sell off.
Now this is for a server with good population. If your on a lower pop server where there’s almost nobody in Cursed shore, etc. Then yes it might be equal across the board. However on my server I have no problem finding large groups of people farming the same few events.
I read your points and I still say this. If they balanced the scale downs more. Why not? I don’t want this to turn into the whole fun/grind thread of the day. But some people enjoy farming events and such. Why not make it efficient to farm where you want?
This is sort of a repost I made on reddit but:
Currently it feels like if you want to quest for karma or loot then you should be spending your time in Cursed Shore, Straits of Devastation, or WvW. Lower zones drop only level equivalent loot part of the time and give lesser rewards when completing events.
This is sad because it feels like there is a whole world to play but once you hit 80 it’s only efficient to play some of them. I personally am kinda of tired of killing risen over and over again if I want to farm events the most efficient way. (Besides WvW)
I actually had a lot of fun in the lower areas like Queensdale and Plains of Ashford and would love to be able to hang out and do events in those zones without feeling like I’m limiting myself. So I ask.. why not give the same loot and rewards for doing events in all zones? And would anyone else like to see them change this?
Now while I cannot prove any of this as true since you have to factor in luck into the equation but I do believe there is currently a bug with the Magic Find system.
Myself and another guy have the same amount of MF. (all mf gear,runes/sigils, food, etc)
Roughly 150-160% without boosters.
If I’m lucky in 5 hours of farming I’ll get about 10-15 rares.
My friend on the other hand can get that or more in 1 hour of farming.
This is farming the exact same events, with the same MF. This is also taking into consideration the possible diminishing returns on loot. (These statistics are based on when we first login in the morning so we should be void of any DR)
Now you could just say that I’m unlucky, but this happens repeatedly not just on a bad day. My friend could be lying but judging by his armor, etc. I do not believe this to be the case.
On the legendary sword Bolt a lot of the time the effect around the character will not always show when normally it does. I believe this to be a bug.
If it helps I’m a charr.
So recently a video was posted for the legendary sword Bolt.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHbmal3DNno
While I have not crafted this thing myself yet, you can clearly here there’s a constant..buzzing sound. So far a lot of people, myself included have commented that this sound really isn’t.. pleasant to the ears and could even be considered annoying.
I can only imagine running dungeons or groups and people asking me to switch to a different sword because they play with sound on and that my sword is annoying them.
Even worse, the player with the sword hears that sound.. always.
Would anyone else like to see something changed about this? I really like this sword but I don’t want to annoy everybody I come in contact with not to mention myself.
I know that recently you guys put in some anti-botting things in place. One of them being the karma diminishing returns. Well someone pointed out that by leaving the zone and coming back you would get rid of that decrease. My GUESS is that this is in place to make sure I’m a real person and not a bot, hence having to zone out and back in. (Not sure if bots are capable of that?)
Is this intended? I want to farm karma but I don’t want to exploit so I’m worried I could get in trouble for this. Am I allowed to leave to reset karma and then continue farming the same events again?
Please delete this if this is not supposed to be public knowledge as I’m not trying to advertise this but want to make sure what I’m doing is not exploiting.

My suggestion is having more than one way to get Badges of Honor.
Either increase the drop rate or in someway reward them to players for taking objectives.
It’s also not fair for players who are playing support who arn’t killing as many people. At least in say a dungeon if you complete a boss or objective you get the tokens, here it’s all about killing the other players.
They should make it so you could get badges for completing objectives.
Where do you see how many kills?
Also can we get an increased drop rate? 2-3 hours of WvW and only gained 2. Maybe give loot bags for completing objectives that contain them?

I’ve been doing WvW as infantry for the last 2-3 hours and have only gotten 2 badges of honor. Also I imagine with badges being in loot bags they often get left and it’d be easier if they just got autolooted so we don’t have to stare at ground for loot bags.
Also if not more for killing players, how about when you complete objectives you get a loot bag that has a chance to contain them? or always gives 1-3? Something like that?

Can we possibly get official videos released detailing the Legendaries?

Hey Arenanet, thanks for the awesome game!
I was wondering. Is it possible for you guys to release some official videos detailing and showing off each of the legendaries?
I know a lot of us are working on or trying to decide which legendary we are going to work for and it would be beneficial to see just what we are working torwards.
For example, I would hate for someone to spend roughly 500 hours of work crafting a legendary one-handed axe only to find out in the end they actually like the looks and effects of the sword better.
Well hold on, has any confirmed Gifts of exploration are Soulbound and not account-bound? If so then you could probably complete the map on your necro and send it to whomever on your account you choose.
However you may wish to do the final part of crafting it on the character you want it to be on because I’m not sure if legendaries are soulbound upon crafting.
Can we get a confirmation on that last part, Arenanet?
Yeah, I had seen that video but thanks for linking. My only worry is with it being a one handed sword it the effects might seem.. underwelming? Compared to a 2handed sword.
That is if it was just a sword passively emitting a little lightning around it, which there are already some exotics that do just that.
I mainly wanted to hear from Arenanet so that those of us who are already beginning work on creating these can have a bit of an easier time picking which one we’re going to attempt to craft, especially with the amount of time it takes to gather the materials.
Perhaps release official videos of the legendaries?
WARNING: LEGENDARY SPOILERS BELOW.
I’ve seen some previews of the legendaries and have an idea of what they are going to look like. But I was curious if they actually do anything different cosmetically. For example, I’m planning on going for the sword Bolt, but all I know about it is in the preview window with the small lightning emitting from it.
Can you confirm if there’s going to be something more to it then just their passive state? Like for example, when I swing the sword Bolt, would maybe cosmetic lightning shoot everywhere or would it make a cool electric kind of swinging sound? I know there was a Dev video detailing some of the legendaries like the Unicorn bow and the hammer but was wondering if other legendaries had cool effects like that that go beyond just their passive state.
Thanks for any response and thanks for such an awesome game!

Don’t know the exact model but I have a 500gb hardrive. 64g left of space. Mainly only running mumble and gw2 when I’m playing sometimes chrome. I have 8gb of ram but using Windows 7 32bit so it doesn’t fully utilize it.
I have not tried defragmenting in a long long time.

So I don’t have much lag problems in this game or fps issues. But I’m getting 20 second to 1 minute + loading times when switching zones or logging into a character. This has been since day one. Anyone know how to fix this or is ArenaNet working to fix this?
I’m using an i5 2500k processor.
