Okay, so now when I attempt to repair the client, it goes through 226,000 files while it is “Verifying Archive”. When it gets down to 8 files left, it stops, waits a minute or two, and gives me an error box. The results include a huge list of info, but it starts with:

  • Crash <—*
Fatal Error: Fatal disk-error (1117) on read,
    App: Gw2.exe
    Pid: 8116
    Cmdline: -repair
    BaseAddr: 00400000
    ProgramId: 101
    Build: 16597
    When: 2013-02-04T22:13:27Z 2013-02-04T14:13:27-08:00
    Uptime: 0 days 0:14:03
    Flags: 0

Any ideas?

Having the same problem. The only suggestions that I’ve gotten are to update my drivers (which did nothing) and to delete the local.dat file and repair the client. Maybe one of those will help you

to repair or verify your installation without downloading everything again, edit your shortcut to the game, eg. C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe, and add the command line -repair or -verify at the end. Use a space as it is needed to recognize the command. If your shortcut looks like this “C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe” just type the commands outside the last character, with a space again.

Final result should be like this: C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe -repair
or like this:
C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe -verify
“C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe” -repair
“C:\Games\GW2\GW2.exe” -verify

This will check all the files and download any corrupted or broken files.

I am running windows 7. So when I right click the shortcut and go to [properties], a window pops up. Under the shortcut tab it has:

Target type: Application
Target Location: Guild Wars 2
Target: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe”

Yet, when I try to add " -repair" to the target, it says that it is not valid and to make sure that it is the proper path. Am I doing this wrong?

Is yours occuring during gameplay? I keep getting it after I hit the Play button in the launcher and the client goes unresponsive. Have tried a few things also, but nothing has worked

How does one go about resetting to default settings or repairing the client after deleting the local.dat file? I assume the GW2.exe is the shortcut to the launcher, however I do not see an option to repair

And if it helps at all, when I do CTRL-ALT-DELETE when I am stuck at the black screen, the task manager says that Guild Wars 2 is not responding. And to clarify, I am not getting the black screen after playing the game for a little bit, but right after I hit the “Play” button in the launcher.

I downloaded the HwINFO and played another MMO for about 30 mins on the highest graphics setting. The only difference is that the Core0 and Core1 clocks bounce between 797-2292 MHz and the ratio between 8.00x-23.00x (not sure what those mean). The CPU status VID changes from .75-1.15V. Also, the GPU continuously changes between 650-800 or 850 MHz. So could it still be my graphics card when I am still able to play another MMO but not even start GW2?

As for the parts that I don’t understand (I’m not very tech savy), I dont know how to do these or what they mean/do:
-Disable router SPI
-Disable IGMP proxying
-Disable factory overclock and/or underclock the GPU

from most of the posts i read, none of these helped, but i am still willing to try if I can know how to do them. Will doing any of these put my computer at risk (virus, overheating, etc)?

I keep seeing those things suggested, but I have no idea what many of them mean nor how to do them. The game was working fine after the patch, until yesterday. Now I can’t even get to the character selection screen. And I do not have the GW2.exe file that was suggested to use to repair the client

So yesterday i began to get the black screen problem where, after i click “Play” on the launcher, it goes straight to a black screen and i cant ALT-Tab out of it or close the window without using the task manager. I looked and found several solutions for mac users (I am on windows) and one that required me to do something with the GW@.exe file, but i do not seem to have it. Any help would be very much appreciated.
