This has been quite the dramatic match-up, even if it was lopsided all this week. TC kept pushing and kept the spirit, and SBI rallied at the end with a few awesome “For Frodo!” moments. And to top it all off, a successful Dolyak Parade. Good times! Although SoR dominated, I believe TC learned a treasure trove of valuable lessons. Trial by fire! Thanks for that

But I love my itty bitty joystick…I’m spoiled now!

Hi all, wanted to get some input on key configs for a Mesmer with a G13.

I currently have a pretty wild set-up.

I love the G13 because I love using the joystick. I use it for forward/back/strafing. I use my mouse to turn in conjunction with the joystick, so my movements feel pretty fluid. However! I just can’t decide on a skill bind set-up that feels right, and my fingers have a hard time reaching G1-G7 easily when using the joystick.

Right now I do this:
G19:Target
G22: Jump
G24: Autorun
Middle mouse button center: Dodge
Middle mouse button left: Ctrl/PTT

But everything else is sketchy at this point, and since I can’t decide what I want to bind to what yet, I end up clicking! Bad Blythe, bad! (They should totally put an option in Interface that makes your skills un-clickable! ….erm, they don’t, do they?)

So, whats your G13 setup? or do you have any suggestions for short girl fingers?

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that Dear Hunter. But I do really feel that once culling is tweaked or fixed(or whatever they plan or can do about it) then the effectiveness of the mesmer portal will not feel overpowered, thus balancing things out for you guys once again.

And we all know how people can be with flavors of the month! So have faith, and do the best you can, because I personally would hate to lose such a fun-injecting skill like the portal instead of fixing the invisible invader issue.

Is something wrong with having a class that is also a tool in WvW? And if so, then why? Hypothetically that is, as Kal is using a hypothetical in his post. In reality, there is no imaginary army that doesn’t have a Mesmer.

Porky’s reply struck me, and I realized how this whole portal business is such an interesting study of gamer evolution. It really reflects the shifting dynamics (therefore, continued player engagement) and cool self-checking/re-balancing that can occur in WvW.

I mean, first it was, “Portals are exploits!” cause no one knew what the eff was happening, now its “Hardcore players…challenged by the softcore players.”

Mmm, guess that’s a topic for another post though huh… nevermind! One thing at a time. LOL

Hey has anyone ever thought about making mesmer/thief duo teams for keep infiltration? I just thought about how one of my guildies, who is a guardian, tried to act as a decoy for me last night. But now that I consider it a little more, perhaps the thief would be a perfect decoy to help the mesmer avoid being detected. Even if its just long enough to scurry to another hiding place.

Any thoughts?

Hehe, you are correct sir! No, its not “real world”…its a game. Agreed. Aspects of real world(ie the people that are playing are REAL, etc) and game world(nothing to take, game over.) are both at play.

I want to also encourage anyone who has a tale of mesmerliciousness, to share it here! You know, those times when it became clear to you that instead of being game-breaking, but to the contrary, it breathed life and brought balance into a potential WvW snoozefest. For BOTH combatants!

And that perhaps, just perhaps… its what Anet intended all along.

I agree with Rieselle, I could go for spreading the portal love around, though not the portal itself. I would want to keep its unique nature, and Mesmers already have enough clones!(barump bump)
But something just as useful and FUN in a large scale WvW tactical sense would be nice for every class to have, if they don’t already. But if you want the portal, you can’t have it. You gotta a roll a Mesmer :P

I was gonna title this post “In my opinion, Portal makes WvW extra awesome!”or some such. But since no one else uses the “in my opinion” qualifier anymore when making broad sweeping assertions, I felt I’d only do as the Romans do. And instead of making bullet points of why I think it is(been there, done that, and I’m sick of debating it anyway) I’m just gonna tell a tale instead. So here goes mah post!

Wow ya’ll, I love the portal skill! Its so much fun! Last night, in the TC/FA/YB match-up, we wanted to take AH, but the enemy was having none of it.

First we tried a full-on assault, and once we got inside the outer gate, we all headed to the top of the walls. But we didn’t see (because of culling) until it was too late, that we were ridiculously outmatched and everyone died before they knew what hit ’em, literally!(No portal bombs were employed in that bloody slaughter.)

So then we made a tactical retreat*cough*, and rallied again at spawn and proceeded to take a few more supply camps and sentries*yawn* which took around 30 minutes or more.

All of sudden, the commander says, everyone head to AH and stack on me. At first, I was like… no way man, I hope he isn’t gonna try for that keep again right now. We still didn’t have the manpower! And the enemy zerg was still in the zone, with sentries posted and vigilant at AH!
But then the commander tells us that we are gonna portal to the inner. WOW! you mean we have had a mesmer in that keep for almost an hour now!? And we did! (Leroy, you are the man!)
This mesmer had been evading and hiding from the enemy all this time. While our little zerg was happily oblivious, rolling along the landscape, eating up camps, dolyak’s and sentries, getting our stupid badges, karma and XP, this dude was busy making it possible for the rest of us to take AH.

So we took it. Out-manned, but NOT out maneuvered by God! Here, here!

…but then they took it right back*sniffle*

And with a gusto that made it very clear they were none too happy!

Though before it was recaptured, me, leroy and another mesmer had made it a point to find some hidey holes…but it was to no avail. They found me pretty quickly and danced on my body. I actually giggled. “Good for you, man.” I thought. But hopefully the others would have more luck.

They didn’t. The enemy ended up routing us all! But I have to mention, it wasn’t until at least 40 minutes later that good ’ole Leroy calls out in map chat. “Aw, they found me.” 40 minutes!! You go boy.

Our final defeat was a footnote to what a lot of us will choose to remember:
That Instead of beating our heads against a well-fortified wall for a couple of hours, TC had an exciting, morale-boosting windfall of mesmerliciousness, with map chat full of this sort of talk, “We DID IT, We took that $&%#!” …and “For the Coast!”

And what is more fun than that?

To all my anti-portal friends who cry foul, or may say, “no fair!”, or its imbalanced, or game breaking, take a moment to reflect. How does one measure and balance the value of a single player’s exceptional initiative, patience, skill and self-sacrifice against a whole army?

And to Anet: Excellent work with the portal! That was truly inspired gamecrafting. You guys are great at thinking outside the box!

Unlike subscription games, you can rely on Anet to do everything within their power to control botting and gold sellers. These people/organizations are in direct competition with them. It will probably never disappear altogether, but not from a lack of effort on Anet’s part.

If the Trinity is truly dead, then the point is moot anyway. Because there is not “supposed” to be a class that tanks “the best.”

But honestly, in the dungeons that I’ve done, I’ve observed my clones and other classes’ pets do the most successful tanking in terms of taking the hits that the team members can’t afford to take.

And what we’ve learned so far is the best way not to take damage is not get hit.

Think outside the three-sided box people!!

Hey I have an idea. Why dont we all go Rune of Mercy, and use our Time Warps, Illusions of Life and Medic Feedbacks to be the next great support class! I’m so glad this has happened because now I can focus all my attention in rezzing that brave soul who downed next to the wall under the arrow carts! A new day!

Yes its an adjustment. Take advantage of cannons, oil and other things you can LOS. I’m just happy Anet didn’t bow to the loud cries to nerf the portal into oblivion. That would be a sad day indeed, and don’t think it can’t happen EASILY. This class is not a class for the mindless zergling. They fear and call foul that which they do not understand(or have to lift a finger or think about countering). But they sure can holler loud on the forums, and they will ruin this whole game eventually(like every other game) with mindless baby-talk if we don’t holler back.

If you see Nerf mesmer posts, make sure you put the hammer down on that malarkey and make your voice heard.

Here is my Norn Mesmer. Transmuted the crafted into my favorite cultural/dungeon pieces to create a style I thought would best suit a Norn magic user! A little clipping of the CoF gloves, but I can live with it

I have been having this very problem as well. Both my boyfriend and I play on the same wireless network our landlord provides(both connected wirelessly.) He plays on a laptop, and has no issues. I play on a desktop and get frequent disconnections with the same code as the OP above. It is extremely odd. I have also tried turning off firewall etc, but it still occurs, sometimes more frequently than others. Not even sure where to begin looking for the problem. My troubleshooters cant find the issue with the network either, so any ideas would be helpful, thanks!

lol, seems like there are two dance parties then on TC. One by the Lion, and one by the Forge.

First of all, I want to say I am not a commander, nor do I have any intention of becoming one We have some pretty awesome commanders on our server doing great work. Though tonight, I noticed, as I have often noticed in the past, there has been negative effects that come about from commander infighting. Although most commanders try their best to keep the server and not their own ego as the priority, I feel as humans, sometimes we all eff up.

So here is an idea. In order to foster cooperation amongst the commanders, and to give good ideas and strategies a voice for every commander, aspiring and veteran, why don’t the commanders start a guild together. They don’t have to leave their home guild, but since players have the ability to be a part of many guilds, a Council of Commanders guild would be a place where the guys and gals who lead can help each other, support each other, and/or work out any issues OFF the field.

Just an idea. I think it would benefit both the commanders, and the server they lead to battle.

For the Coast!

Im a mesmer, and the portal is a unique skill, but its sorta like Moa Bird, which people also complain about. But I feel that these unique skills are not OP for the simple fact that the conditions in which these skills are effective are extremely difficult to achieve. With portal, first you have to have a mesmer with talent to be able to hide or evade enemies long enough to be in a position to create a portal. Second, you have to have excellent communication with those who will be using the portal. They have to be in the right place at the right time all the while the mesmer has to there too and not be detected. You also have to have an enemy that has not been thorough enough clearing the area.

I myself have only been able to achieve one proper mass portal for my team. And that was only after trying many times to infiltrate and making my way through enemies trying to stay alive long enough to hide. I then communicated with the commander, and then he had to rally everyone(this is WvWvW remember, people listen so very well!) and get to the spot in just the right time….and all this had to be done before I was found. And even after that we were defeated because we were just too outnumbered once inside.
Yes, it is a powerful skill, but the pre and post portal conditions have to be perfect for it to be viable. You can’t just press a button and win.

I’m not a very good player in terms of one on one, I’m an old lady (over 30! OMG!)and if you pit me against the reflexes of a 14 year old kid I’ll get demolished. I have to use tactics, communication, evasion and intuition to contribute to the fight. And the portal is a skill that requires all of that in order to work.

Unique, absolutely. Overpowered….“chuckle” I would say no.

It is still not completing for me as well. I’ve just tried it again, and again I got to the very end but half of the NPCs are stuck. Trehearne, and 3 others followed, but the rest including Agent Zrii, and Crusader Afanen will not move.

What do I do now? Do I keep trying and hope the right NPCs don’t get stuck? Or do I wait to try again after another fix? These questions are directed at Anet. Please respond and let me know what I need to do in order to complete my story line.

Absolutely NOT. There was no “teaming” up with anyone. We had our share of dirty spies trying to cause chaos by interfering with commander orders in team chat, and other instances of spies giving GOON/Maguuma heads up as to our next targets (heck, one of them even tried to infiltrate the commander’s group, spamming him for invite requests lol) And we still won. And anyone who claims different needs to crawl back under the bridge.
