Time for some more updates! We have reached over 1000 daily users and I cannot thank you all enough for the support. out of these Users, about 999 (purely an estimate) of you said that the app needed a good visual polishing. I mentioned before that I would put a large effort into making it happen, and it is a good chunk of this update. Additionally, updating an app purely for visuals isn’t very exciting(for me it is
), so I have added a few useful tools as well. I also understand that some people might not want to utilize the account features (granted through API key), but may still want to use boss timers or other unrelated features, so this was addressed as well. Without more hesitation, I am happy to announce a few new updates hitting GW2 Sidekick (within the hour).
New features:
Complete Visual Rework – This is a large piece of the update. You should notice the drastic changes immediately. The menu screen is now a hub of information. The menu provides some useful info at a quick glance even before entering certain application features. The screen also carries a daily reset countdown so you know how much time you have left to gather from your home instance or anything else that resets daily of course… Plenty of minor aesthetic details that you can see for yourself as well !
Tablet Support – This rework also brings with it many updates for Tablets. I have gotten some great feedback and have realized that a much larger percentage of players would like to use tablets for this application rather than phones. The tablet version of the app better adjusts bounds for layouts and no longer has enormous and stretched out item images (since it no longer uses the phone layouts).
Multi-account Support – This update bring support for having multiple API Keys. Currently, to be sure that the scaling will not affect usability, the limit is 2 account keys. This will most likely be expanded in the future. In order to make this possible, the entire back-end had to be modified. So, existing users will notice upon entering the app that your api key and database info will be migrated automatically to the new structure (you don’t need to do anything but be connected to the internet). Each API key can be assigned a unique color identifier that will be used in future features that will potentially support multiple accounts being viewed at one time so that you can identify which account the item correspond to. Additionally, The API key can be told to only sync certain pieces (i.e. Trading post only) (future updates will use this…) so that if you don’t care abut your accounts items but still wish to view its TP transactions, this will minimize amount of information needing to be synchronized. More info on these features will be detailed when they start being used.
Daily Checklists – I had many requests for some daily monitoring tools so here is a good first chunk (I believe I covered all requests so far).
- Boss Checklist (can be used without boss timers, and both update each other)
- Home Instance Node Checklist
- Dungeon path checklist
- Time-gated Crafting Items Checklist
- Item Converter Checklist
All of these checklists automatically reset themselves at daily reset. Your main menu will indicate when the checklists have been cleared by placing a “NEW” tag on the menu button. As always, let me know if you would like additional things added.
RSS News Feed – Not much explanation needed, however, the news will automatically update and your main menu will notify you of any new news you have not read yet. Clicking an article heading will link you to the official GW2 post and mark that news item as “read”
Boss Timers Update – your main menu will provide you a quick indication of what boss is spawning next without having to open the timers. Priority is given to epic bosses when two spawn at the same time.
Feature Separation – You can now use all application features that are not account specific without ever entering an API key.
