Dragonhunter: How much health is "enough"?

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I know very well this is highly opinionated. I think I just need to accept that I might decide the “optimal” build for me might change.

Here’s what I’m going with for now, if anyone is curious:

I lose about 2% crit dmg, 13 power, and about 8.5% crit chance from a perfect berserker build, in favor of 14.1k health (over 11.5k). I’ll find out if that extra vitality is wasted, or not.

I agree with what you’ve said, and I honestly don’t think either of you really disagree on the way the stats work.

The problem with Knights is it’s a flat loss in ferocity, which can’t really be balanced out. With Marauder, Valkyrie, and Berserker, you can fine-tune your Power, Precision, Ferocity, and Vitality. Unless I’m mistaken, a toughness set doesn’t maintain the same control over offensive stats.

So, at least for me, I’d rather balance my defensives in PvE on Vitality gear.

But, my curiosity remains: how much vitality is “enough”? This assumes no toughness gear. I probably should have specified this in the OP.

@NumenorLord & Indure

I understand the basics, and I see both y’all’s points:

Toughness counters direct damage, while Vitality counters condition damage the best.

Still, a big burst hit (even with toughness) could down me with a base 11.5k health pool, right?

The reason I’m considering increasing vitality, even by a little, is to ensure that in that one scenario, I don’t get instant downed. I’m looking for that healthy mix, you know?

And a thousand times yes to the cost investment. I’m trying to figure it out before I spend my resources. I’m looking for an optimal setup.

Edit: misspelled a name, won’t say which!

Hey guards,

How much health is “enough” in a DPS build?

I know the game can be played with 100% zerker gear, balls to the walls frenzy mode, but what I’m asking is – if you were to put a bit more health into your pool, how much would you add?

I’m looking at 14k, at the moment. Too much? Too little?

I feel like my crit should stay around 40%, too, but with 14k health, that comes at a slight cost to power and ferocity (mara gear). Tough choices.

What do y’all run with?

I posted my original build in the topic. It’s quite literally all berserker gear.

This is what I’m considering for PvE:

This is what I’m considering for WvW:

Both modeled largely off of your values. All weapons and armor are exotic. Do you think these would be effective?

Thank you. I appreciate you sharing your builds! You’re doing something that I’ve been considering doing, a bit of mixing within each set. Berserker + Valkyrie makes a lot of sense, vice a full investment into Marauder. That, and the Soldier + Cavalier mix into your WvW build.

It’s just balancing numbers. These build editors are extremely useful. I don’t know why I haven’t messed with one before!

Looking at your exact statistics, I see your trade-offs, and they make a lot of sense. Still, the one thing I’m not sure about is:

“How much Toughness and Vitality do I really need/want?”

I think I may need to find that balance myself, while I’m still running around in exotics and building towards ascended gear, but I have to say, I’m really not sure.

Howdy,

I’m working on making an alternate set from Berserker on my Revenant, primarily to boost my survivability (most notably for WvW, but perhaps for PvE as well).

I’m currently considering Knight or Marauder, but if anyone feels there is a better option, please enlighten me!

What do you think is best and why? Perhaps I only need to swap out my accessories, but I’m alright with going for a full set.

Yeah, I apparently am a full level away from using my glider, after doing all the follow up story. I’m just walking around this giant zone with shiny things saying I can’t use them yet.

I can’t say I’m enjoying myself. Hm.

Welp, I spoke too soon. I found one that gives 10 points. It looks like the initial maguuma zones are kinda crappy and I just needed to move in deeper.

Side note: I wish I had glider unlocked already.

Hey, I just got to the new areas. I’ve noticed the hero points are only rewarding one point. From my googling, people have said they should provide ten. What gives? Am I hitting buttons wrong?

In all seriousness, I would really like to have access to my skills on my Herald. Any advice for me? I’m gaining hero points very, very slowly now that I’ve hit 80. I’m at 72% world completion and I’m not very certain how to finish my elite specialization.

Thanks!

Boxes and Trays (Bulk Craft-able Items)

Do they sell? I’m very apprehensive about obtaining the recipes considering their cost with Mystic Coins.

The boxes (Armorsmithing) that create a full set of X type of armor seem to be rather… lack-luster. I can see the profits, however I can’t fathom anyone buying them considering the price of purchasing the set individually. Are consumers just paying for a fancy box, or am I missing something?

Trays, Pots, and so on seem to have some benefit in that it can be shared. I suspect these may sell, but again I don’t want to toss my coins into the forge and not make a profit from these recipes.

Interesting. I really like it. I had underestimated boon duration. I think I may choose this build for my condition builds, or simply use it as a basis. That consistency with boons and the boost you get from them sound insane. I’m definitely going to play around with this to see how it feels.

Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you constructed a full guide.

Oh, I think I have a general idea of what builds I like. I’m mostly concerned with my stat priorities and how to best go about these builds. Like, for instance, I’m buying the Koda set for my tank-y control build and I’m debating between grabbing all 5 of the Power/Toughness/Vitality pieces or dipping into the Healing Power variant (which lacks toughness). It’s those things that I’m unsure about.

I’d be very interested in information about your build. It sounds very useful. Feel free to share as much as you are willing. You can PM me in game or just leave a link in this thread if you don’t mind sharing with everyone.

I haven’t experimented with my warrior as much as I would like to. I’m still in the process. I’m not entirely sure how to keep that many might stacks up consistently. It must be a trait I’ve skimmed over. My might comes mostly from crits with my greatsword and my elite skill.

QUESTION: Build Statistics (PvE)

in Warrior

Brendan.5489

Certainly. Regardless of either of the four builds, my play style is an in-your-face melee warrior. Therefore, I agree completely with toughness being instrumental for warriors. I go in to the thick of it and play offensively, while watching closely for dodge rolls. My goal is to stay in melee for as long as possible before I absolutely must retreat and use my ranged weapon. That’s essentially my play style as a warrior, and I want to build in such a way.

I have little experience with the support build that I would like to play, so I’m inclined to believe you’re right. I’d hate to stack so much Healing Power that I’m essentially a crutch for a solid group that isn’t requiring my insane support shouts. With that in mind, I’m now thinking…

Condition Damage > Toughness >= Healing Power > Power > Vitality (Critical Damage & Precision are neglected)

That seems more well rounded to me now. I’m glad I didn’t start buying that set yet. I think I just needed a second opinion before I purchased anything. Thank you for your feedback, CoaxialMazer.

I’m still very much interested in any additional thoughts. Particularly: Is Healing Power vital for damage oriented builds, or should it be left to more support-y builds? Opinionated, I’m sure. But I’m opinion-less on this and am open to ideas.

Oh, I just realized I forgot one of my main concerns about condition builds and I now question the priorities I listed. The basic trait “Precise Strikes” in the Arms tree causes bleeding approximately every three crits. Should I value Precision more in condition builds?

Thanks again Warrior community.

QUESTION: Build Statistics (PvE)

in Warrior

Brendan.5489

Hello Warriors!

I’m still a relatively fresh 80 and I’ve got a multitude of tokens I’m terrified of spending. I intend to purchase four sets of gear for different builds. My question for you cool people is this: What stats should I prioritize in each build? Any personal experience or information of “caps” for certain stats will be greatly appreciated.

With that kind of background information I can safely start purchasing gear. I believe there are others like me as well who may benefit from you as well.

Here are my ideas for builds and stat priorities…

Direct Damage (Greatsword or Axe & Axe/Longbow or Rifle)

Power > Toughness > Precision > Critical Damage > Vitality (Healing Power & Condition Damage are neglected)

Control Tank (Hammer/Mace & Shield)

Power > Toughness > Vitality > Healing Power > Precision (Critical Damage & Condition Damage are neglected)

Condition Damage (Sword & Sword/Longbow)

Condition Damage > Toughness > Power > Precision > Vitality (Critical Damage & Healing Power are neglected)

Shout Support w/ Conditions (Sword & Warhorn/Longbow)

Healing Power > Condition Damage > Toughness > Power > Vitality (Critical Damage & Precision are neglected)

A few notes…

I am very confused by the value of flat Power in condition builds. Should Power be neglected instead? Or does the flat damage increase for direct damage equate to a necessary increase in DPS over the other stats I chose to neglect?

Also, how necessary is Healing Power in damage builds? As you can tell I chose to neglect it. Should I prioritize Healing Power over another statistic I chose? In my experience with Healing Power I feel that it’s either go big or go home.

TL;DR: Are these stat priorities an intelligent choice for these build ideas, or should I change things up? I’m nervous about spending my tokens on gear without background knowledge from folks like you.

Thank you!
