Did you join a zerker only LFG? Are you a power necro or a condi necro? A lot of this stuff matters. Also Ralanost, just because you don’t want the dungeon to take longer than it needs to doesn’t mean you’re an elitist.
Actually, that’s kind of exactly what it means.
It means you refuse to do anything that you deem “Imperfect”, including taking on a party member that “Hampers” your DPS. I can’t even do the level 35 dungeon because of people like that.
I’ve took to holing up and just not talking anymore.
This is the first MMO community that has made me feel so un-accepted when I’m trying to learn that I’ve given up trying to do anything team-based.
I’ve been told twice now that GW2’s community is a fun-loving community, friendly, and that trolling is a minor thing here.
Tried sPvP, and one of the worst things I heard was “I want to slit your childs neck open and use it like a sex toy.”
Tried WvW: If you don’t have a level 80, shut up and get out. General consensus from the commander I was stuck under.
Tried dungeons: “Level 80 only, speedruns only.”
So, Now I’m doing the single player thing. I refuse to talk to anybody, even people who talk to me, and just sit around grinding and doing the personal story, once I’m finished with it, I’ll quit the game and that will be that. The community is so toxic and crude that I -DON’T WANT- to be a part of it. I’ve never met a single kind person outside of a few “Nice” fourm posts and one fellow roleplayer.
To all of you that trolled, bullied, and just generally kitten on me? GG. You win. I won’t darken your /map or /team chat. May you rot in them.
I see, you’re at a impasse, no way to refute my argument so you revert to personal attacks, it’s ok it only says A LOT about yourself.
None of it was a personal attack, it’s just the honest truth. A truth you can’t seem to handle. =/
1st of all learn to read, the drop rate comparison wasn’t even advanced by me.
2nd it was my 1st and only character that got screwed, I played since the patch and only just got 6 new lvls with no end in sight for when I can I start customizing my own kitten character, because hey to force this specialization they “really” had to put me deep in HP debt…
No game I have ever played, specially not an MMO, has ever done something like take my character and all but play it for me and asked “keep playing it and eventually you get to customize it”.
So yeah my opinion of the game is not good, certainly not a game I would recommend to my friends and if by the time 29 days since I bought I still can’t play how I want I’ll ask for a refund and make sure no one I know plays this.
1. But you did touch on it.
2. Again, if your “first and only character” got screwed, then it’s not that big of a deal. Some people go from 1 to 80 in a WEEK. Your inability or refusal to correct it yourself isn’t any fault but your own.
Also, if your friends joined right now, they wouldn’t feel any effect of the patch, so really you’d just be lying to them if you said it would worsen their experience with the game.
=/

I totally agree with you, but the problem is that the majority of the player base just doesn’t seem to give a rat’s kitten about anyone bar themselves. If it doesn’t affect them they won’t speak up for or against it.
Like here I got “deal with it” repetitively. But the thing is that we shouldn’t have to!
The concept is that "Dealing " with it takes maybe a week, or a reset. It’s not a huge loss or a difficult struggle. It’s….Playing the game . _ .;
MMORPG 101, never, ever remove the “player” part of the equation, which is what auto spending the Hero Points did.
So… you think that because the company did something that it felt was a respectable approach to a MINOR issue – that you thus far have been the only person that I’ve seen complain about it- that it removed the player agency from the game entirely?
Pretty faulty logic there.
And yes, leveling up -is- an out for it because it takes very little time to level up, with tomes and writs and alts and so on. Your reasons for being upset fall into illogical territory.
“I refuse to level up or play the game for 2-5 more hours to obtain more points, and since I refuse to be logical and do the natural, fastest thing to rectify a MINOR oversight, I demand anet to code in multiple facets to fit my wants.”
And then you used hyper exaggerated things like "If they dropped the drop rate by 1000000% , you’d “Eventually” still get it."
Wheras leveling takes so little time that like most people have said, you can practically and literally hit level 80 without leaving Queensdale.
If you’re level 1-10, the issue doesn’t effect you.
If you’re level 20-30, it’s a minor setback.
If you’re level 40-60, it’s a hassle, but you should have enough Hero points and skills to make a viable, if not optimal play-kit.
if you’re level 70-80, you already HAVE everything, so it doesn’t effect you.

I wouldn’t have even considered this game if it was a hardcore game. I like being able to take breaks and not feel like I’m missing out. The causalness of the game is what keeps me logging in and is what hooked my wife and many of my friends on the game.
It is fun to go to a world where you can play with friends and do events and not feel like you’re losing out because you like doing world events and not raiding for specific gear.
This is the entire reason I bought this game. I didn’t want to play another “HARDCORE” MMO that punishes players for not sinking every waking moment of their gameplay time into it. I -LOVE- being able to pick up and play Gw2 for 1-2 hours, or for a 6 hour stretch. It’s got just enough challenge to make it feel like you’re doing something in combat, while not making you feel like every single fight is a grinding bore.
If you want to see the game be difficult, play sPvP. That’s where the challenge is, and if you’re not willing or not good at sPvP, then you really don’t have a place to complain about the lack of challenge.
I, for one, think think that the casual friendly gameplay is what makes this game the great game that it is. My niece whom usually HATES these kinds of grindy MMO style games is already considering buying it because of how user friendly it seems, and is.
If the developer wanted to shoehorn in some high-brow challenging content, then fine, let them. But give that “challenging” content a few weeks, and people will be complaining that it’s “Broken” or “too hard” or “Unfair” or “Punishing” or “Too easy” because they’ve learned it’s patterns and how to best deal with it.
I know I’m sure to get some flack for this, but are there any roleplayers who play Gw2?
I mean Roleplayers who use the world and it’s lore alongside their own personal stories made up for their characters.
For example, My ranger is a human who came from outside divinities reach and knows little about their gods and their natural lives, and thus is taking up arms in defense of his fellow man and woman because he wants to feel accepted in this new land and learn more about their “world”. (Tiny sliver of story, I’m actually so into the lore of the game so far that I’ve started a small book/collection of my characters and their stories.)
I know with megaservers, it’s difficult to find a dedicated server for roleplay, and while I’ve heard tarnished coast is the RP server, I picked Dragonbrand because TC was full at the time. Is there any way to tag myself as a roleplayer so that I get placed around more roleplayers in general?
•Any level, rank, race, or class is welcome.
•The guild is brand new, and I have personally foot the bill for updating it enough to have a custom emblem as of today.
•Rules are simple and straightforward, with “Don’t be a kitten” and “being able to speak fluent english” as the only two requirements.
•Dragonbrand based guild, but we welcome all servers.
•Currently, we are also in the process of creating a home website and setting up a team-speak (Or something of that nature) with which to host events
Lastly, as a roleplay guild, we want to encourage people of all ages and genders to join and engage in any sort of roleplay that you can think of!
By the same token…Misogyny, Racial insults, or really any kind of insults in general will be dealt with promptly and with no pity.
Have fun out there, take care and I hope to see you soon!
Take some time to adapt but it will be fine. Really, if you just played once and didn’t even try to adapt why make a post on forums ? So many people are crying without even trying.
Sometimes it only takes smelling the BS once to find out “yeah, that’s BS”
As a new player, I’ve given up on PVP.
It’s not fun. It’s not balanced, and it’s not a good time for either side.
When you win, you feel like you didn’t do anything because the entire match took the span of maybe 2 minutes of gameplay, the rest of it was just respawning.
When you lose, you feel like you’ve barely played at all and then just had a lose tacked onto your record, and with nothing to show for it.
This isn’t call of duty. Anet needs to stop treating it like it is. An MMO is supposed to be based around skill and teamwork, not twitch reflexes and exploiting builds.
There’s also so many builds that are down-right useless, and nothing is explained to new players regarding this, so there’s even less reason to play it. The rewards might be nice, but nothing else about PvP is.
I’m kind of surprised though. I’ve never seen that kind of behavior and I’ve been playing since launch. Maybe you’ve had the bad luck of getting into maps with especially trolly types? Even the last time in LA when one person kept spamming about a boycott, people were arguing with him but no one was really throwing out insults and ultimately we all just ignored and blocked the boycott guy. But yes, you will notice lots of arguments on both sides, for the prepurchase and against it. It’s best to just avoid the subject.
I generally tend not to bring it up, though it’s sad when some new player asks, it’s like stepping into a minefield. I was in a voice chat party with a girl on skype when she literally logged out, deleted her characters and uninstalled the game simply because she said that it was the sixth time she had been cussed out that night.
Either the people who are seeing less of it are in better servers, or just have generally better luck because this has been something I see EVERY DAY, EVERY TIME I log in.
Currently, if you mention the expansion in map chat, you can almost be certain it will explode. There are a lot of unhappy people regarding the pricing/bundling/etc. that are more than happy to share their opinions on it and anyone that disagrees. Similarly, there are people that think the unhappy people have no right to be so, and are equally happy to share their opinions as well. That should avoid most PvE bile. As for PvP, I don’t know what sets off the typical PvPer, but apparently most things going by these forums.
It’s just kind of sad because some new players ask about the expansion or voice discomfort in the fact that they just paid $50 for the game and could have got it free and then map chat just RIPS them a new one like their lives and accounts depend on it. xD
You could try using this interesting free product called “Thick Skin.” It really helps in preventing the words of strangers from having an emotional impact on you. Block and move on if the words of others are really harming you that much.
So, in reality, ignoring your kind of comment is what I should be doing. I already actively ignore tomfoomery like this, so don’t worry about me, partner
I’ve stated multiple times that It doesn’t bother me as to what they say, just how gosh darn toxic everybody is. And the kind of comment you made is EXACTLY a good point of what I’m talking about. You didn’t add anything to the conversation. You just wanted to stick your foot in and act coy, and all you’ve done is cement yourself down further as, well, somebody to be ignored. o – o;
So either A: You didn’t read the post, and you’re here to troll.
Or B: You DID and ignored it, so it’s just a troll either way =/
Yes, there is a screenshot folder.
Like others have said, the pvp folks…..they tend to be a rather, um…touchy bunch. lol. Just avoid talking to them and absolutely report every single one of them bothering you. Then block them.
Odd. It didn’t seem to save them off, in the destination folder (Documents>Guildwars2>) or in my picture documents either. I guess PS isn’t the actual screen cap key?
Either way, It’s not just PVP, It’s PVE too ,which is the weird thing.
I’ll be sure to make sure it captures the screens next time because I’m honestly getting kind of sick of having to hear tweebs spout the same boring “Kid, cancer and testicular” insults every time somebody types anything. . _ .;
(edited by Brian Ponder.9017)
All you do is right click on there name in chat and choose report. They won’t be in the game any more for a while after Anet reviews the chat. They take verbal abuse very seriously
Good to hear!
While I don’t take any of it to heart (Trolls will be trolls of course.), I do believe that there are some people out there that will. And the people willing to stoop so low as to just explode out at people over questions and comments are NOT helping the current HoT’s “Scam” or whatever people are calling it.
Dear brian. Your worst mistake was trying to talk to pvp people. Pvp people are far faaaar more toxic then eny other part of the game. Being 5 days old ingame and telling people what to do is just adding a gasoline in a pre erupting volcano.
Find yourself a guild and once you get friendly with them you can vent there if something is bothering you. Never with strangers because strangers will most likely backfire at you.
The thing is, you must be doing something wrong if people angry whisp you for hours (if that’s the truth), bacause in my allmost 3 years of playing i got maybe 6 angry whisps, all of them while playing ranger in pvp.
I believe you’ve been mistaken. I didn’t tell anybody what to do. I asked if a ranger tanking damage for minutes on end without dropping below 80~90% HP was normal, and was ridiculed and cussed at for hours, some people threatening to follow me across characters. Is there a folder where screenshots are kept? Because I pressed Printscreen on a few of the particuarly nasty bits and wouldn’t mind reporting a few of them.
And I already feel like I’m playing a MMO by myself because the community is so toxic that I’ve literally made it a point not to speak to anybody unless in a combat situation ,or asked something in the first place.
Make a comment about the HoT subject: People cussed me for hours in map chat, followed me from area to area, whispered me until I had to resort to blocking people.
Made a comment that 4 people fighting one warrior and never dropping him below 90% hp was kind of BS: Cussed, called a “kittentard” for hours on end, followed around, left PVP lobby and the whispers are STILL going on (Been about 30 minutes). This was after I made a point to say that I am INDEED new to the game and that it was entirely from a new player standpoint. (My GW2 Icon is flashing up a STORM right now from whispers.)
I’m honestly considering just muting everything but the system chat and taking solace that the game’s damage numbers won’t threaten my life, threaten to molest my children (Not that I have any) or spew constant vulgar insults at me.
Does anybody else feel like this? I feel like I might as well not even have bought the game. The reason you play an MMO is to meet new people and enjoy yourself. I feel like I’m tiptoeing around because no matter what I do, the entire map is just WAITING to blow up and just crap on anybody who dares speak.
Now, don’t get me wrong. If somebody is low enough to go around cussing somebody, trashing them and trying to make a scene, I’m not going to take that person seriously. The problem is that I CANT SEEM TO FIND ANYBODY ELSE WHO IS -WORTH- PLAYING WITH.
Level 17, human and the quest areas are empty. I think I maybe see…10 people a day?
I thought mega-servers meant all those “full” servers would be sharing some people to play with…
._.;
Thank god.
I mean, I myself am one of the people who display a bit of…dislike of the way new players (Myself included, but there are plenty others whom I feel for, as I generally have little money and making the most of what I have is the reason WHY I bought a lengthy game like an MMO…) are getting stabbed for the game twice, or in my case, I’d be paying $100 for the expansion pack and game with none of the legendary pre-purchase goodies, but sometimes if I just TALK about it, people go into full on rampage mode and it’s…kind of offputting.
Thanks for letting me know that it’s not the majority that’s like that though, that’s a HUGE relief.
I like both 100% equally and can get both for almost same price.
I was just wondering, Which is more game for the money, or “better bang for the buck”?
Thank you.
Pre-ordering or purchasing ANYTHING is a bad idea.
Today is my second day playing. First day I played, I made 3 new friends and was having a great time.
15 minutes ago, I was told to kill myself so somebody could kitten my children (Not that I have any) because I voiced my opinion on the HoT debate.

Hello Brian,
We apologize for any frustration our pre-purchase may have caused.
Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do at the moment, since the the Standard Edition of the Heart of Thorns Expansion comes with a free Guild Wars 2 Core game for those who do not already own Guild Wars 2. There will not be an available expansion version released that does not include the Core game for a lower price.
We can only suggest you to try to get a refund for your purchase and re-purchase the game trough buy.guildwars2.com.
Regards,
GM Sparrow

Hi Brian,
I understand that it can be frustrating when a new item becomes available on the store site that may offer additional/different items. However, Every Edition of the Heart of Thorns Expansion comes with a free Guild Wars 2 Core game for those who do not already own Guild Wars 2. The retail price of the expansion is $49.99. If you decide you’d like to have access to this content when it goes live, please consider purchasing this item in the future.
I apologize for any frustration this may have caused you. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Regards,
GM Eddy P
But all that aside, day one, I had a great time and when I found out about it, they said to email support because they, and others, had been given discounts or even refunds for buying the game that WEEK, let alone that day, so I emailed support and got the emails above.
Today, A new player asked about it dropping in price and other players were citing “reddit” as a source of information, saying a GM posted there saying that anybody who got the game recently would get either a full package or a large discount depending on the time owning the game. I cited the reply email from sparrow above, and was barraged with insults:
“kittening troll”
“Get out, Nobody wants you”
“Leave then, nobody will care if you’re gone”
“Kill yourself”
“Cancer like you needs to just get out of our game spreading rumors”
So, my question is, ALL of the HoT junk aside…are most of the players like ^ that?
Or is that kind of a “Freak accident” kind of situation?
Everything else aside, I’m loving the gameplay, hope to see you around and have fun.
Ps. Friendly reminder: If a new player isn’t sure about something, don’t beat them down and verbally abuse them for it. Just because you’ve been playing for 2 years doesn’t mean EVERYBODY knows or understands.
Pss. Also, it’s fine to disagree with somebody on the HoT’s Debate, but just because you disagree doesn’t give you the right to be rude and insult them. Keep that in mind.
