Cwbrooksy – Level 80 Ranger
I Am Brooksy – Mesmer – Will be 80 some day
I fully support this. I wish there were more skills to pick from on a pet, because honestly some of the pets have really nice stats and abilities, but a bad special ability. I would love to use a Pig or something in combat but I don’t think searching out special weapons is going to aide me too much in combat.
I don’t see my Critical Damage on my stats go over 99. Is it going over 99? Or am I capping this?
I just tried updating my build and typed a lot of good stuff only to have it deleted and I was unable to edit my post again. Sometimes I can edit/report/quote post, other times I can’t….
Hi, I am working on my build above on the sticky, and I wasn’t able to finish it all in one post. My build will change over time too, as will others, can we fix this somehow? I wasn’t aware we couldn’t edit post in that topic.
I had to lead a group of people who had no idea how CoF worked. Each path, Magg not so much, but the First Path’s run was a nightmare. I did what I could to keep them all together and organized and we got passed the torch event and the bombs with good work on everyone’s part. We stayed up pretty late (we got done just a little bit ago) and throughout the entire event, I got 51 badges. 30 for my magg run, 15 for the third path’s run, and then SIX for the first path’s.
What is the deal? I understand there was a change, but I was with someone who told me he kept getting 40 and 60 badges every clear with him, and he had the badges to show for it. So seriously, what gives? Am I going to be compensated for my efforts? Or am I eating kitten on this one?
Sound bug of moving pets, very loud as if they are tap dancing extremely fast lol, its very irritating have to put my sound of to not hear it.
Switch pets when this happens, it should solve your problem.
^
The graphical representation is fine, but try testing the alleged damage increase using steady weapons.Last I checked it didn’t affect my damage whatsoever.
The Stability buff last longer than the Might buff on your pet as well, not sure if this intentional. Still need an update on the OP as it doesn’t list the bug correctly.
Just ran a quick test for you. This trait allows the use of Sharpening Stone at 75% without the need to have the utility skill active.
Sharpening Stone is given to you at 75% and you are free to apply the condition to an enemy once this has happened. Happy Hunting.
Nope, I have found Become the Wolf and Rampage as One to be the best. Become the Leopard and Nature thing are meh. The Nature thing doesn’t really help either.
And I will probably need 1 more spot to finish this, so, reserved.
Part 2
Okay, so let’s move on to
-Traits
We’re running 30/30/0/0/10 here. For the sake of this guide, I’m calling the traits you are forced to learn at 5, 15, and 25 “Passive Traits". I will only be describing the slotted traits I am using.
Marksmanship Tree: This tree buffs your overall power by 300 and overall condition duration by 30%. The power is nice, but the condition damage is very minor, as we aren’t going for condition damage in the first place, but I am not complaining about small benefits. Here we will go over the extra traits you pick up while leveling this tree.
I am obviously not finished this. There is still some more to cover. As you can see this is exploring every aspect of my playstyle, so there is a lot to type. I will finish this soon.
Hi, I am Brooksy, and this is my “Glass Cannon PvE Build” (aka the only build I really have/cared to build so far)
I realize PvE isn’t the main focus of the game really, but in any case you are looking to farm dungeons quick and easy, and for any content that may come in the future, here you go.
Skills & Utilities: Here is a rundown of EVERY skill you will be using with my set up, and give you an explanation of why I feel these skills/utility is your best option for outputting damage. I am not going to type out what every skill does, please refer to them if you’re not 100% familiar.
-Longbow
-Axe/Warhorn
(edited by Brooksy.5039)
So this seems to be a real big glitch in the programming with Range, Mobs, and your Weapon effecting if this will work at all.
I’m discovering a lot more bugs with how stacks and mechanics work, but I wasn’t expecting perfection on a less than a month old game.
I tried on various Undead mobs outside Arah. I didn’t really experiment too much outside that yet as I did a lot of farm runs and I’m going to level an alt right now. I’ll do more testing on this and see if I can get a word from Arena or anyone else to see what the status of this mechanic is, because it seems very off.
I also noticed Potion bugs today, very annoying.
I am using a Longbow. I also tried with Axe/Warhorn. Both gave me poor results, I didn’t really try any others.
My pet’s Opening Strike seems to be not working either.
Just tested this in HotM. Standing right next to the target with Opening Strike displayed, I attacked and triggered the 5 stacks of vulnerability. Having my pet attack first triggered both sets of 5 stacks.
Remorseless triggered on actual enemies (I used the ghosts in the southeast corner), but not the target golems.
I have no idea, this is breaking and fixing on me. I can’t seem to pinpoint why this isn’t working as well for me.
It’s a bug check here for more informations.
P.s. please use the search next time
This is an old topic. This does not address what I am addressing, this, straight up, doesn’t work. This topic goes on about how it only has a range of 900 and some other stuff.
Where do they get this? I don’t see Open Strike working AT ALL. Not at 900, not at 1500, not at 1. I don’t see a condition applied, or boons doing their job.
Go play your Ranger, and test what I am saying right now. There is no signs of Opening Strikes applying or doing anything to my targets.
;)
Edit: Seems like it may not be 100% broken, but this has only worked about 10% of the time I try to apply it, and I am MAKING SURE I am withing 900 every time I have attempted this

Quickening Zephyr is a pretty nice Utility to have, if you combine that with a Longbow’s Rapid Fire, it can deal some pretty huge burst.
Axes are fine IMO. Axe/Warhorn is a powerful combo allowing you to AoE efficiently and buff allies with your Warhorn Buff. The bounce is fine as well IMO, having sustained AoE like that in the first place is powerful. The trait only helps, too, but I don’t know how I feel about it yet. I use this as my secondary weapon set to close the gap on bursty AoE since I use Longbow as my primary. Longbow’s Volley is also a very powerful skill as well.
It seems like when I have the Opening Strike boon (which as far as I know applies 5 stacks of venerability for 5 seconds) doesn’t actually apply a condition to your opponent.
Likewise, the trait Remorselessness which refreshes your Opening Strike doesn’t work right at all. I just don’t see my boon re-applied or anything applied to my opponent.
Anyone else having this issues? Am I missing how this mechanic works?
- Signet of the Beastmaster’s effect on Signet of the Hunt doesn’t affect your damage (although, there is a graphically representation of the buff)
I’m not sure if this was a pre existing bug, but this does work correctly. You receive a buff that reads that you will do 150% damage on your next hit.
However, Signet of the Wild is bugged. Although you receive an increase in your character model and a Stability buff, it seems you do not get a Might buff. This appears as a bug to me, if you could update the post.
I am probably never going to number crunch this game, but this is a hard one to call from general play-around. I like the long bow. I like the long bow because your Hunter’s Shot gives venerability which is awesome, Rapid Fire does a ton of burst, Point Blank shot is a nice way to keep them at distance since your auto attack does more damage with how far away they are. Volley does very nice AoE damage as well when you need it.
Short bow on the other hand, it’s skills feel more built around mobility in PvP. Sustained damage with conditions and and CC. Long bow outputs bigger Auto Attack damage and bust, along with giving ALL of you allies and benefit with the venerability. Like I said, I haven’t done any extensive research, I have recently hit 80 on my Ranger, so this is just what I’ve learned while leveling up.
2 reports of things that may or may not be intentional
Master’s Bond is currently giving 8 stats per stack
Master’s Bond also drops all stacks and does no recover any previous stacks when swapping pets.
Last I calc’d it was 6 for a total of 150 stats for your pet only.
You can check how many stacks you have currently by clicking your pet manually and you’ll see the affect under his healthbar. And losing all stacks literally happens on anything lol.
It’s intended but will be hopefully changed
It would be nice, I can tell they encourage pet-swapping in combat, and it’s very viable no matter what trait tree you maxed out, so it seems unfair to make us commit to stacking 1 pets stats unless it’s intentional to keep any balance (as this is a VERY powerful trait that you only need 10 points for)
Here is a side-by-side of my pets stats with no stacks, compared to 1 stack.
Okay, I wanted to make a post in the bug topic, but I really don’t know if I’m insane or if I’m really seeing this right.
First, Master’s Bond gives me 8 stats per stack, I am sure I read that this is supposed to be 6, and I am not sure if there is anything else counting into the amount of stats I get per kill.
I understand the bug with it not showing how many stacks/max stacks is already known, but my last issues is:
This doesn’t transfer to your swapped pet, you lose all stacks. Is this intentional? You don’t have any previous stacks you left off with when you swap back either. Is it meant to wipe all stacks when swapping to any pet?
