Spectre and BurningHeavy, no offense meant, but maybe you should read the whole thread before to post. It has been identified and confirmed that there is a trouble for many players due to some of the jerky movement of the raptor mount.
@Spectre: Nice for you that you do not have motion sickness, I would love to be like you, but how shall that help now? The thread is about helping those having the trouble. You make no proposal?
@BurningHeavy: Scroll up and you will see that zooming out as far as it goes has already been proposed and discussed. To some extent, it helps (thankfully), but it does not completely fix it. You will see also that many other things have been proposed/tested. Let’s see if one – or more – will help.
Unfortunately I think you are a tiny minority. The overwhelming majority is LOVING how the mounts feel, and I’m in that camp. Maybe, with time, you’ll get used to it.
I’ve put about 5 hours into this beta, played most of the content a few times and I think I have a decent idea of what’s going on. Some feedback:
Information, Information, Information
There is nowhere NEAR enough information. I was trying to turn my casino tokens in for the event, went from the vendor to the spot where the trouble makers were attacking, trying to contribute to the event, I had enough to make it a success, couldn’t find it! I know, this will be obvious a few weeks after the xpac comes out, but for people new to this, it’s annoying. Most events like this have a basket where the turn in NPC is, this event was lacking it, which was INCREDIBLY odd. Put that in!
The bosses: Everything except the Legendary Chua had mechanics that weren’t explained. The Legendary Chua explained all the mechanics, but you had to mouse over it’s buff bar to see it, which is above and beyond most members of this community. The other bosses? Nowhere NEAR enough explanation. One boss had a rotating damage location. This was obvious for people that moused over the buff bar but again, most people don’t do that, so people would be trying to damage her to no avail because they were too dumb to read the buff bar, which is to be expected (people still don’t understand break bars ffs). Then the target mechanic. This doesn’t have nearly enough information. Targets people for a one shot… Ok, is this unavoidable? If not, how do we avoid this? Can we block it? Does Aegis affect it? If it’s unavoidable how is this a good mechanic if she’s constantly doing it? People are instant downing and having NO IDEA what is killing them. The bombs: Are we supposed to AVOID attacking them or attack them? I’ve had them explode if I attack them, and explode if I don’t. Which is it? There is no information explaining this. The finding a weak spot… Does this just mean we have to get close before we can attack from a far? Do we do extra damage? Is it a buff? Is it something we can strip? Again, no information describing this. There are quite a few mechanics and nothing explaining them. we need a livestream explaining these mechanics. Hell, if you don’t have time explain them to Woodenpotatoes and have him make a video! Everyone in map chat was clueless. INFORMATION! We need more of it!
The bounties are pretty awesome, but again, there isn’t enough information. I thought I had to return to the board for a reward, like every other MMO, but no. I thought I had to be in a party and change my target, like in every other mmo, but no. It seems (and I could be wrong, but again, no information) that the board only exists to allow you to know where one of the bounties are. I don’t know if this resets it’s timer or what because this isn’t explained very well. Also, some of the bounties were literally in the city… I don’t know if this is intended or because they moved em from unreachable parts of the map or what. I kind of like it tho.
The TL;DR of this part is simple: Information! We need more of it, either a livestream explaining ALL the new mechanics or better explanations in game.
Some events/mobs are too close together.
I was tagged up for a bounty, we had a fair number of people fighting the jackal dude when a group of sand sharks with a vet wandered over AND a balthazar event AND a Hydra, ALL at the same time. I’m sorry, but that’s too much too close together, we got demolished because we were getting attacked from all sides! People were trying to avoid hydra attacks and were pulling sandshark packs. People were trying to kill the bounty but were getting knocked around by balthazaar dudes. Too much, too close together! Spread these event mobs out!
Mastery XP seems too small
I’m hoping this is just to allow people to get both of the masteries rather easily for the demo but the amount of xp needed for the masteries is pathetic, to the point that I don’t understand the point of having it at all, especially since it’s account bound. It’s so low I almost think they are switching to a per character basis. It was as low as the new masteries, which is tiny! And the number of required points is really low as well. Again, I’m hoping this is just for the demo. If this is a permanent change, I see most of the community being mastery capped on day 1.
You might be wondering why I’m saying nothing positive. That’s because this isn’t the time. I’ll be positive after launch, because they are doing a lot of things right, but during betas/demos they need to be told what is off. I don’t have issues with unidentified gear like the rest of the community seems to, mostly because I don’t think we fully understand it, which goes back to information. Anet, you NEED to give us more information. I get it, you want to ship not talk about what’s going to be shipped, but some things need explained. if you don’t want to do it out of game before launch FINE, but you need to explain the new mechanics and what not IN game. I’m not a designer so I can’t tell you how, but it needs done. Maybe that first boss in the story could have all the new mechanics and the lionguard lieutenant can be explaining how to beat it or something. I personally think it’d be easier to just sit down and explain everything instead of trying to make it lore friendly but thats just me. Mounts are awesome, most of the events are fun and the bounty system is good. So far, my impression for this is way better than VB, even tho that could just be because VB was hopelessly broken.
TL;DR Anet, spread out event mobs so we don’t pull 5 events at once and give more information. You are introducing a ton of new mechanics but have explained none of them. Also, the casino event had no indicator on where to turn stuff in. That needs fixed.
I have never, EVER felt like my character was riding a mount in any game before. I have BEEN my character’s mount in every game i have played, this is the first time i actually feel like i am riding a diffrent entity. Whatever you did, please ANET i beg you, do not change a thing about the mounts!!!! Thanks
Also, the animations are out of this world, and the textures in the whole game deserve to be hanged in a museum. This is ART.
Great job Anet!
I did a heart where I literally bonded with my mount and helped other, unclaimed raptors become kitten mounts. It’s the best implemented mount system I’ve seen. I WOULD like them to be a bit faster but that’s a nit pick. People are going to be sick. We should do everything in our power to inform people of ways to minimize this (high PoV, high FPS, zoom all the way out etc) but they are a very small minority. Don’t ruin the game for the majority to appease the minority, UNLESS there is a way to turn off all the animations via a simple option. If that is possible, then yea, I see no reason why not.
Now, if only there was some way to do instanced content without having to randomly group with people with different expectations than you. Oh, wait, there is. Sure, it’s more effort to find a guild of like-minded people, develop a friend’s list, or start your own group. I guess people prefer “log in/LFg/do content” because they think it’s more convenient. At least, it’s more convenient until you get kicked because a random grouping tool grouped you with randoms with meters.
Guilds are the answer.
Ultimately it is these things that prevent a bigger influx of players joining these higher end instances than there could be and leads to them stagnating due to low population.
Sadly it wont change, the only answer is to join a like minded guild or to encourage as many people to start their own groups and ensure those groups dont use these ridiculous meters and build checkers.
or, and I know this is a crazy idea, but you COULD get good and do adequate dps. the build I use can pump out over 10k dps by pushing one with scepter, letting the auto attack take over and doing NOTHING else but do mechanics. That’s IT! Better yourself, don’t complain and insist on being bad.
Nice to see the raiding community is consistent in being awful as usual. :^)
Why? Boss has dps checks, low dps players get kicked. This is the most logical thing possible! It used to be it didn’t matter how good you were, if you werent running a meta class (read ele) and the group wiped due to lack of dps you were kicked. Terrible eles were filling groups and doing pathetic dps, but since they were meta (because if you’re good the potential dps is through the roof)they’d never get kicked. Now WITH dps meters I DON’T get kicked because my guard pushes 17k dps while eles doing 300dps DO get kicked. It’s fair! I won’t argue that gear score/ilevel is bull kitten but dps meters? no son.
Support for BGDM is not being terminated,it will stay compatible with the game.
I wouldn’t use ARC since it is not TOS compliant, and it gives Anet the right to ban you for using it if they choose so..
The BGDM developer quit the game, if he can’t find a successor BGDM will die.
this is a very real fact that next month BGDM will die . which the BGDM developer posted on reddit about that and the fact he gave up the game . and is never coming back
now if that would only happen with ARC too . the game would be far more better with out them both . [/quote]
How? Explain how? Without dps meters community perception is all that would matter. There would be nothing but ele’s and buff kittenes. With DPS meters eles doing 8dps will get kicked because they are bad, while guardians doing 20k dps will be kept around, even tho their class isn’t meta at the current time. This does NOTHING but improve the game.
Personally when someone uses an add on that won’t affect other players I wouldn’t mind. But this Wow stuff just makes me mad. DPS meters, being kicked from fractals for not doing enough DPS… That’s just horrible.
I hope anet can be stricter with their rules.
Why is it horrible? Do you know the mechanics of high end fractals? Take the last boss of nightmare. if your dps is subpar you WILL wipe the group because you aren’t killing him fast enough. In the past, once the group realized this, anyone NOT running meta class/build would be kicked, because we could only assume THAT person is the reason we are kicked. Ele doing 900dps would be kept around because ele, guardian NOT running dragon hunter would be kicked even though he is pushing out 10k dps. How is that more fair than dps meters seeing the ele doing 900 dps and going oh GOD that’s why we are wiping, dude, wtf are you doing in t4 fractals? Kick. This is the single greatest addition for high end instanced PvE as it allows us to make sure we are kicking the right person. If you’re getting kicked for low dps don’t wine to Anet, get better. Work on the dummy, improve your gear. If you can’t be bothered to do that, don’t do T4 fractals. they aren’t easy anymore.
If your doing t4 fractals and you dont k ow how to play your class, then dont do t4 fractals. We dont like when fractals take more than an hour. I personally like dps meters. I get to measure my dps. Im not the best player. But when im in a group with pugs ill be hitting 5 more then the next person. The lowest 2 usually sit around 3k. Tbis slows fractals down so much. Yeah you can make the argument that i should play with a static. Which i do usually. But that doesnt change the fact that if u do t4s daily your not doing them for the experience of doing them. The longer it take the less rewarding it becomes. Its basically “get gud” , but why not improve yourself and get the tedious things done faster?
Fractals drive me nuts, because I’m always at 8k dps cuz no fury or might :*(
So today I have been kicked out of a fractal party cause my dps was not maked out, they confirm using dps meter. So now people can use dps meter? So arenanet you change your mind? Can I ask a refund of my entire account cause I clearly remember back a couple year ago dps meter was illegal and thats was one of the reason I started playing this game. To avoid kittens players. If I recall the user agreement speak of this? Did anet change the user agreement without notice or I miss something?
If your party wiped due to low dps and you had the lowest dps, why wouldn’t you be kicked? Don’t blame the game, blame the developers etc, blame yourself. Why is your dps low? Are you running random blues and greens with no build? Well then you are going to do poor dps. There is (unfortunately) no way to legally check other peoples gear (something I wish they would add) and there is no way to 100% accurately check other peoples dps unless they also have the dps meter installed. But, arc can simulate your dps and it is rather accurate, usually within a few hundred. Why are you upset? Most fights in the top end are big time dps checks. If people have sub par dps, the group will fail. In the past, we would just kick certain classes because of a perception of weakness. This is VERY unfair. I ran a raid the other day. My build is unconventional, but works. I was pulling 17k dps. In the past, pre DPS meters I would’ve been kicked, but I wasn’t, because I was top 3 dps according to the meters. Which is more fair, being kicked due to a perceived and possibly incorrect weakness, or being kicked based on performance? Improve yourself, don’t be carried, do the carrying. Your Dps was LOW. That’s not Anets fault, it’s your fault. use the dummy, find a build, get BETTER.
I saw someone asking to be more precise about what is causing the sickness, I can answer how it is in my case:
- When the raptor stops from running, he has this slight twist effect turning its body to the left side (like when we emergency brake with a bicycle). That one is making my stomach jump high.
- When we dismount is another one.
- When using the tail skill.
Otherwise, when mounting and just running around, I am OK.I have tested:
- To zoom out as much as possible. In my case, it helps. It does not remove the trouble completely, but it delays when it starts.
- To disable the camera adjustement to Char height. I have not seen that it makes a difference.
- I have reduced a lot camera rotation speed. It seems to help too.Remark: In my case, to play with the settings like Depth Blur & co, did not show any significant improvement, so I keep them as are.
This is incredibly odd! I’ve never heard of this before. Do you play fast paced games at all? games Like Tribes ascend or quake can give people motion sickness but they are first person and WAAAAAAY faster. The thing that commonly causes motion sickness in games is low FOV. Do you have the FOV set to max? are you zoomed ALL the way out (adjusting the max zoom distance in the menu)? Have you tried lowering your settings to get above 60 FPS (low framerates can make people sick, especially when the game is faster, which mounts inevitably will make the game). My thought is you’ve just never played a game with speed before. To test if it’s Guild Wars 2 itself, play (or watch) Tribes Ascend. Does that make you sick? If so, you might just have a sensitivity to speed.
I haven’t noticed this at all. Are you zoomed all the way out? have you never used mounts before? I’m trying to figure out what would cause motion sickness from mounts…. I’ve never heard it before and every other mmo ever (not called guild wars) has mounts….
Just turn champion dawn into a 5cp push pull map. Then people might not hate it.

… Does anyone else remember the pop ups when you completed something that asked you to rate it out of five based on a few different things with an optional feedback box for your thoughts? …
Yep, I still remember how exciting those BWE have been and how much there was to explore which I didn’t manage to do. Also our feedback seemed to really matter.
But that is the past as is the MMO Manifesto.
What has become of you my beloved Guild Wars?
The most important thing in any game should be the player.
I was looking forward to those popups…. I’m disappointed they aren’t there… Probably because people just ignored em. At least a /feedback option would be appreciated. I have too much to say to type, so I’m going to make video feedback but man… This beta is a freaking mess of bugs and nasty.

I wanted to drop in and share a few things. First and foremost, I’m sorry it’s frustrating. It shouldn’t be that.
Hopefully it will help when I tell you I checked in with the team that’s in the office this weekend for this event, and they’re aware of the problem with events stalling out. I’m at home, not in the office, so I don’t have more details, but I at least wanted to let you know.
Please don’t feel like you’re not contributing. We want you to have a great time, but this is also a true beta: Everything you tell us is helpful and making a huge difference. (See the revenant.) So let me assure you that the things you’re doing this weekend are making a direct impact on HoT.
Now as far as the gameplay. If something is blocked to the point where you are completely stalled out, beating your head on that wall, and you can’t do anything else to contribute to beta feedback or enjoy that particular part of the game, head off in a different direction. There are a number of specific things we need your help with this weekend, and if you spend some time with them instead for a while it might give you a more enjoyable experience.
Try out the new revenant, roll a class with an elite spec build you haven’t done yet, try Stronghold. Let us know how all of those things feel with different builds and classes, and what you think we should do to make them better.
If you really want to hang out in Verdant Brink, run around with an eye to daytime vs. nighttime. We want them to feel like two completely different maps, so think about that and let us know is we’re headed in the right direction. What we can do to make that experience better? (Besides make the events not stall out. :P )
I hope that helps as much as it can. Thanks for helping us test HoT!
Day and night are different, but not for good reasons.
Day: Spam in map chat before day starts to NOT FEED THE VILLAGERS. When someone inevitably does, that chain is over basically before it starts. Res one villager and that event chain is bugged beyond completion. When that happens you hop on over and check in with laranthir of the wild. This one is better. Kill the vine thingies, clear out the mordrem. When you blow up the Giant vine you have two choices: Follow the events, which you can do up until right after the 20 minute event to blow up the gravel to get to the WP at the ruins OR you can sprint ahead, zerg down the thing the snipers are supposed to hit, run past the vine blocking the way, run up the path and skip to the end boss. You can then complete the end boss and get your 25 ???, but less xp and the map doesn’t know you’ve killed the boss. Either way, it is impossible to complete both event chains and I’ve only managed to do the itzel one ONCE (wyvern fight was fun tho) and I did the adventure once as well (I burnt 90 vines but didn’t get a mastery point. Yay more bugs) but hey, now its night time! So its time to do… Exactly what I thought I would be doing during the day which is escort soldiers and collect supplies to build up defenses… Defenses for what you say? Attacks so infrequent I left my toon afk at one of the command post, got up, made a sandwhich, grabbed some coffee, let the dog out, went to the bathroom, sat down, realized I forgot my coffee, got up, got thecoffee, let the dog in and came back. Still hadn’t been attacked yet. On another note… Why aren’t we building the defenses during the day? Isn’t that the point? So basically daytime there’s nothing to do because the events are bugged and night time there is nothing to do because the there are rarely any attacks, we only own 3 of those places because the day events are bugged, there is no way to see on the map where the supply is to easily gather it, there is no incentive to gather supply because the attacks are so rare and easy there is no point ( I defended the itzel one alone… As a dragon hunter, exclusively using traps… That are rather underwhelming and Longbow, which has a super weak auto attack, but who’s other abilities aren’t bad, although a bit weak). What does escorting the soldiers do? Bring more supply? Ok, wipeewe don’t need supply. So basically, night time is silverwastes only easier and with less loot and no boss at the end. There was no feeling of dread, no feeling of fighting for my life. the only feeling was uh oh, better stop watching Pirate’s highlights, theres an attack, I need to press one and E (my dodge) a couple of times. Ok, everythings dead, Can you believe francisco liriano hit a Home Run? ME NEITHER!
Hope that helps!

I wrote a post on our subreddit about this very topic. The entire subreddit is happy with glee about the beta and verdant brink. After reading everything it was obvious they played for maybe an hour. It’s broken. It’s unplayable. The only things I can give feedback on are the specializations and the revenant because everything else relies on VB events completing, which can’t be done. VB night is boring as hell because thereis nothing going on. But since the daytime is so bugged idk if thats bad design or it being bugged. Is it more exciting if we complete both day chains? The attacks are few and far between, the soldier escorts are so far apart that people won’t do em, even with a commander (I’ve regularly tried to escort, but as i’m alone they dont get far. I’m using bow on DH cuz I wanna test it out so my damage is insanely low. I gave up once and switched to mace. I melted everything). I can’t give honest feedback on much of anything. I’m going to run CoE on all 3 of my beta toons (its an 80 dungeon that any group of idiots can complete. It’s a good benchmark, at least for me) to see if its just a lack of might/vuln that are making my numbers feel low but I dont think so. But yea. This is an unacceptable level of bugs. I was expecting bugs, but bugs that make it unplayable? It shows that all they care about is PvP (stronghold is really REALLY bad… But thats for another place), masteries (a lot of detail but I can’t properly test. Luckily I did play right at the “start” aka an hour early, when the events were actually working, at least the itzel one. Took me about 2 hours to unlock gliding which was awesome), specializations and the revenant. If this is the state of the FIRST map in a POLISHED form than I’m terrified for the rest of the content. It’s easy, super easy. Yes, a few of the mobs have decent mechanics but they will be nerfed because everyone is saying how hard they are. It’s a start, as it’s harder than base game(I can’t stand afk pressing one and expect to beat a mordrem archer ((that longbow volley tho. OH BOY!) like I can against a risen in orr…So thats a start).Idk. It’s kind of disappointing (on a seperate note, dh F2 is the greatest skill in the game and REv hammer is amazing, so that’s positive).
You forgot to say that on Wednesdays we wear pink! XD
