YES! I’ve literally just finished filing a ticket and the rep was useless. I’ve heard multiple people saying they have this problem. no idea why it happens but the DCs only happen in story instances and not in open world which leads me to believe that this isn’t ISP related. Anyone?
ahahaha GW2 is anything but unique. this MMO is about as themepark vanilla as you can get, and short of the art style—which is a great one—nothing really sets it apart.
The frustrating part of HoT is the fact that navigational tools that make travelling easier are time-gated behind that dreadful masteries system.
“let’s make HoT feel like it has more content than it does by making QoL elements be a painful grind to obtain, on top of maps that are designed to weed out players from this game”.
I’m still willing to give HoTs a longer chance, but god kitten that honey moon period of the patch really didn’t last, I was hoping it would definitely keep me in.
CC is not visible to players, and not intuitive enough. It doesn’t help that you can pretty much coast through the game without ever using it or that the CC functions are written in this light gray font that screams “useless mechanic you can ignore”. Why even have it ingame in that case?
In their ever wonderful wisdom the devs strived to make CC “complex” and “deep”. Which, much like a lot of features, was left half done.
“look all these fun, interesting and different kinds of CC, this is so god kitten ed fun!” they hope you would say. Instead players just say “durrr, is bleed a CC??”
that’s the problem. What the heck is CC to a new player?
Just get over this fascination to make a simple mechanic annoyingly complex and stop pretending it’s some sort of deep aspect of the game. consolidate it into one easy-to-understand function that doesn’t have to sacrifice a build for CC, and that doesn’t leave a new player saying “I bleeded the enemy why is bar not down???”

+1 I am another one of those people that feel the maps are not difficult so much as they are BEYOND tedious.
Mobs that swarm you to hell are just annoying. Which tends to be 60% of the mobs in HoT maps. Meta events are challenging, and that’s good, but people in open world just want to get from one point to another, and wasting your time killing mobs that a minute later will respawn exactly where you left off is terrible game design.
Look, I understand trying to make the game challenging. but there is a difference between boring, annoying, and tedious content that tries to pass itself off as challenging, and actual challenging and fun content. You can’t make an MMO that tried to market itself as “not elitist levels of challenging” and then try to turn away from that after one expansion.
Much of the problems with GW2 is a team of game developers never deciding on what they want to specialize and make the game shine. So instead you get all this different areas of the game that feel and are basically half-done. And so far none of that has changed.
Kudos on the world design in HoT, though, I would love to keep admiring the amazing world design if not for those annoying mobs.

interesting to say the least. I don’t agree with some of what he says, but I also don’t disagree. I also don’t really care about legendaries seeing how I started playing GW2 in october of 2015 and still have two entire game’s worth of content.
The only thing that intrigued me about his video was at the end where he says “let’s not play the armchair game developer and pretend to know more than what an actual game developing company like ANet knows”. Which I wholeheartedly agree, we all love to talk out of our behinds while knowing absolutely nothing of the situation. Anyway, I just found it funny how he said that at then end after a 30 minute rant of him being exactly an armchair game dev.
WP gets a lot of things right, but lets not put him in a pedestal and pretend he says nothing wrong and/or incorrect. Be critical about everything you read or hear and not just take it all at face value simply because it agrees with your opinion, you’re not special and you can be wrong just as often as you can be right.
