ever since i got my computer back from repairs, I haven’t been able to install guild wars 2 when i open the set up file it shows me a guild wars 2 crash window.

My system specs:

Windows 7 pro 64-bit

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.4GHz

4GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

The Pet-less Ranger

Then I do not see the issue here. You can stow the pet when not fighting (so they dont grab aggro). When you are in combat, just let your pet die…it is like it isn’t even there. Plus it will distract mobs from attacking you initially.

Good thing you didn’t play GW1. When your pet died, all your skills went on cooldown.

In guild wars 1 pets were infact optional and usually unless you had a beast mastery build you did not put the charm amimal or heal pet (both skills that bring your pet out for combat) skills on your hotbar, their main mechanic was skills that do special things to their arrows(like auto attack arrows will cause poison for like 30seconds, or deal fire damage with arrows) or special archer shots ( cripples, bleeds, interupts, poisons), traps, and spirits that effect both allys and enemies, and a bit of beast mastery. but the beast mastery would be the rarest spec to find builds unless the build involves an off-class (i.e. Ranger/assassin or Ranger/Dervish)

Why should the Master of the Wild not be the absolute best scout in the game? Someone explain this to me. Thieves have speed and stealth, the ranger should at LEAST have speed and I argue shadow refuge (hiding your party in the woods from prying eyes) should have been a ranger skill to begin with.

OR give a ranger tracking….including tracking of stealth or “see stealth” on a short cooldown.

only to be fair, shadow refuge was an assassin skill of the first guild wars which pretty much made a change of name to thief in guild wars 2, but yes i really do wish that ranger would receive a buff of any sort. i mean if the ranger in gw2 functioned anywhere near as well as they did in the first game they would be dominating, but there are so many issues with gw2 rangers that it makes me sad.

This update was a complete disappointment for rangers. I have no clue what the dev were thinking when they thought this was enough to make rangers somewhat viable (strictly talking sPvP). Here are my issues with the profession…

Longbow – This is one of the rangers few direct damage weapons and it fails and everything it does. Damage scaling has to go. So far the only gametype we have is conquer and fighting off point is beyond stupid. The auto attack is too slow. Also it needs to have a chain skill (possibly 3rd skill in the chain applies a cripple). Almost 1/2 of shots with the LB get obstructed making it useless. Lastly, over all damage with the weapon is too low.

Greatsword – The story here is not much different then the Longbow. The great sword is trying to be too many things at once. Usually each weapon has a certain role they play (for example, great sword for warrior is used for damage and mobility). The greatsword for ranger is used for mobility, cc, conditions and damage. Those are far to many roles at once, making it weak in any one particular role. The skills need to changed in order it can be used viably for 1 or 2 given roles not all of them. BWE1 great sword ranger was better but the damage simply needed to be toned down a little, ever since the patch from there, it has been killed. Autoattack damage – add chain skill.

Traits – The ranger traits are all over place making it extremely difficult to have your skills/weapons/traits synergies.

Pets – Whats to say? A pet rock that doesn’t move might actually be more useful.

I gave ranger a shot (played from BWE1). Its too frustrating to play a profession that is not viable in any team composition. The way the updates have been rolling out it seems it will stay this way a long time.

and john just because you think that the weapons aren’t an issue, doesn’t mean they aren’t , especially when 90 of people who mainly played as a ranger are saying it is an issue that means it is an issue, and why bother buffing aquatic rangers only<25 of the game is underwater so just buffing our aquatic abilities is useless for >75% of our ranger’s experience of the game. and John the warrior is ok at the moment you put the warrior on the back-burner if it would move your team’s focus on more pressing balance issues for example rangers and from what I’ve heard a bit for the necromancer.

before all of that, in order for this to be an e-sport, FIRST all the class would need to be relatively balanced. powering up rangers and stop buffing warriors for starts.

Haha you know guys I luv the fact that ANET has actually said, they are keeping the Ranger with the bows due to the lore….ok..but listen here ANET..what type of games have you been playing where a WARRIOR OUT DAMAGES A RANGER WITH A FECKING BOW?!!?!…let alone actually having to use a bow is NOT in a fantasy based class….hunters on WoW uses guns..what can’t ours?

I’ve played a hunter in WOW. But I really don’t see the need for rifle here.

A warrior doesn’t have a pet. Of cos in a vacuum without the pet and other stuff he’s going to do more damage than you.

and ranger’s of Gw1 didn’t need to use their pet or in other words pets were optional for this class and didn’t use them unless they specced for beast mastery or dual classed with an assassin. The reason they didn’t use guns in gw1 because they weren’t available.
back in Gw1 we had 4 choices of bows each having their strengths and weakness which was truly their mechanic, next to enchanting their arrows or quivers.

i’m not angry that our class mechanic is the pet it’s that the supposed trade-off of ranger damage is with the pet’s damage, and the problem with that is ranger pets can’t attack moving targets which is useless in pvp and the pet can be killed faster then a mesmer clone which the clone is suppost to be a temporary pet were the rangers is supposed to be more durable
