The root of this problem is thus:
WvWvW is and should be a 24/7 game mode; servers are not designed for 24/7 player loads.

I think the best possible solution to this problem is threefold:
1) Eliminate NA and EU designations. (language designations would be fine)
2) Announce a finite time remaining for free transfers. (at least 2 full matches)
3) Continue focusing developer attention on bugs/exploits/hacks.

disagree
that wouldnt solve much, if anything. I think that is impossible to achieve balance just by letting the playerbase self control itself, it will never work. human nature, specially on the internet, equals egoism.

24/7 balanced servers is an utopia. it will never happen. lets come into terms with that.

my solution is simple.
abandon the idea of 24/7

1) IP Ban/ Lock NA and EU regions
2) create new Asian/SEA region
3) Announce a finite time remaining for free transfers. (at least 2 full matches)

anyone that doesnt take advantage of that free transfers to go to a region that fits him will see that chars locked.

These two while seeming similar are light years apart. One is about opening things up and the other about closing things off. The latter is counter to what Anet has been trying to do. That is create a game where it doesn’t matter where you live.

and good on them for doing so, too.

i fight as hard as any of you on your own timezone. i don’t see why my “efforts” should be considered less than “yours”. we’re all even, despite the zone shifts. and it’s kind of amusing that only one “shift” is actually complaining. everyone else in the world is okay.

Because the problem is this
Server A has 100 NA players who play from let’s say 12-8 pm
Server B has 100 NA players who play from 12-8 pm
Server A has 20 players who play from 9pm-11 am
Server B has 100 oceanic/EU players who play from 9pm-11am
The problem is that YOUR efforts are now being defended by an equal number of players in the day-time as the other server has which makes it almost impossible to deal with because thanks to your superior night numbers, guess what, you took every fort+keep+orb and everything is fortified and already defended with tons of siege weapons.

Everyone’s’ contribution in WvWvW is currently NOT equal as a result. That’s what is so hilarious about A-net’s response “well you all be good community members and make sure to spread your population out evenly ok? We’re gonna be over here making sure people are buying gems. Oh, P.S. we’re gonna leave server transfers free and open so you know, if you’re getting crushed feel free to transfer to a winning server.” absolutely NO ONE is going to say to their guild “hey guys I know we’re winning and currently enjoying tons of bonuses to our server and we’re 150k points ahead of the enemy team but let’s go ahead and transfer to that other server.”

We’re acting as if it isn’t only a month into the game’s Live existence. Some other classes need way more help, so they’re getting tweaked first. Expecting a massive amount of work done in a month is ridiculous, in most games it would be entirely acceptable for NO balance patches to come out yet, rather in another 2 months.

Don’t even bring up Blizzard, they left HUGE class problems in for over 5 years.

Uhh…in what modern AAA budget MMO is it ok to not have bug fixes or balance changes for three months? You’re right that the warrior bugs aren’t class breaking but you’re a fool if you think it’s ok to leave bugs and game-breaking things in for 1/4 of a year. Also what problems did Blizzard have for 5 years exactly, I’m curious as to what you’re talking about.

the problem is warriors are very gimmicky, every weapon feels like it only has ONE useful ability and it requires several utility slots dedicated solely to propping up that one ability
GS-hundred blades burst,
weakness kiting, stun break
sword-condition damage
weakness kiting
axe-crit damage
weakness kiting
(I know I left out several of the weapons we use, but those weapons are almost purely support/cc bots for your team. Most people didn’t roll warrior to be a CC bot for our ally)

Almost everything revolves around that one moment where you lock an enemy down either with bulls rush bolas and your F1 skill and you either kill them instantly or they cleanse themselves and just mop the floor with you. The warrior has a very small window to be effective and it feels like it is to deal as much as damage as quickly as possible/stack up as many bleeds as you can. Unfortunately classes like the thief and mesmer are much much better at this while bringing superior survivability in the form of mobility/stealth and NPC allys or portals. I imagine most people would be fine with this if warriors had some form of decent self-sustainability/survivability. As it is heavy armor and an extra 3k life over the other professions just doesn’t cut it for what we give up for it. Look at how much better a guardian is at supporting their allies and keeping themselves up. It’s shocking how they are so much more inherently tanky than warriors while bringing roughly the same damage.

Right now warriors feels like a hybrid class between theif or mesmer and gaurdian. We have small group utility in the form of banners and shots coupled with (typically) single target burst skills. However in this case we are jack of trades decent in none. Necros condition better than us, mesmers/theives damage/burst harder than us, and gaurdians tank better/bring more utility than us. It’s not that warriors are straight up awful or that they aren’t fun to play. It’s that currently every niche we can trait for is currently out-performed by at least one other class.

Region locking is needed to keep WvW enjoyable.

I don’t understand why “Night Capping” doesn’t work both ways. If the real problem comes from players in other time zones, doesn’t that mean that there is a period where they are not active? Unless we are talking bots, I assume that their team has to sleep, just like yours.

It is safe to say that I don’t understand all of this, but I don’t see what advantage one server has, that is not available to another.

the problem right now is that servers that were successful either had pre-planned alliances or just by luck of the draw had EU, US, australian or french canadian players whose prime time is typically during the “down-time” of a particular server. Now normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, the rankings would rise and fall and things would work out. However with free transfers being available like they were and still are MANY players jumped ship on their servers to join the very successful ones which also meant that those night-time players who were playing on servers outside of their region were also more tempted to join these large servers for two reasons; one being to win and the second to play on a server with a larger number of players playing during your time.

Right now the servers that have that night-time playerbase are telling the low pop servers or servers that suffer from no night crew or a small night crew compared to theirs to recruit but even if you do try to recruit what is more attractive

1) A server that has no/or rarely has a Queue for wvwvw but routinely loses and gets shut out after the first or second night due to the entire map being taken over and almost no players who will play during your prime time

or

2)A server that is already established as a dominant wvwvw player who has won match-ups in the past and is currently winning by a large margin. There are many players who play during your time as a result, there are long Queues around the clock.

Most players will pick option number 2 because between waiting 30 min-1 hour and getting in to a game where your team is dominating versus instantly getting into a game where the only objective your server has is a camp and is trailing by 40,000 points is awful. No one wants to play that kind of match-up. I don’t agree with a region lock but arena-net really really messed up with free server transfers, no a one-day or longer cooldown doesn’t stop the mass population shift to high pop servers.

the only problem would be when someone new to wvwvw participates in a keep fight, manages to click claim for their 2 man guild they made, sets the option to guild only and then runs off to continue fighting with the zerg. Eventually people will need those supplies and you wouldn’t be able to do anything. This is an accident too, I’m sure there are people who would love to have such an option just tokitten off players by claiming keeps for themselves and not letting anyone touch supplies.

A few random buffs doesn’t do it for me. I want to drive the enemy from their own capital cities I want their heads on a pike out the front I want real victories and defeats.. Not some fluff numbers…

What?? Are you insane, we already have huge problems with populations on servers that are getting stomped in wvwvw and you want people to be losing cities? You wouldn’t even get to see it happen, you would just know they’re having a miserable time and the servers that have small populations/bad wvwvw teams would dwindle even more.
