Account wide dyes

You’re best bet to change the current system is to show how to make Account Bound dyes be a win for the players and a win for ANet’s profits.

Hmm, what about something like this:

Tie-dyed! Oh noes, you washed your vivid t-shirt with the white fluffy towels! Everything is dyed! This item when purchased will make a color bleed over into all your characters’ dye charts. Cost—200ish coins.

It’s not a dye itself; it can only be applied to colors you already know. But it’s a method of having a dye found once and then known to all alts (and subsequent alts, I would hope.)

But Anet must also consider the revenue loss of the current system. I would have been spending quite a lot on dyes if they were account bound already. As it stands, I’ve spent very little in the shop. Only a bit on inventory upgrades and one appearance changing pack.

The dye system could have been something I really threw my energy and money into, getting even more attached to my characters and purchasing more luxury items for them. Instead, the character bound issue pushed me away to more rewarding time(&cash)sinks. :}

We speak here about more than 400 dyes. Its ridiculous for a game, that is all about fashion and character customization to force its players to collect all of these 400+ dyes individually for each character…

Dyes should be usable for all of your characters, just like Achievement Point Rewards.
I even think it would be awesome, if players could unlock every 100 Achievement Points or every 250 Achievement Points a new dye for the Account.
This would further incentivite players to work on Achievements to speed up that way unlocking more and more character customization options ect.

I love this idea, Orpheal! As Seera astutely observed, this would be such a good carrot. The kind of carrot that makes the finest carrot cake. ^.~

I’d definitely be drawn back into playing, collecting, and avidly getting acheevo points if your idea was implemented in some fashion.

you’re saying that you’d come back if only your characters had the same colours? …

right……….

I think my rationale (my highly personal rationale) is a lot more credible than someone proposing to know exactly what others’ motivations are. Sarcasm isn’t a good shade on you.

Collections do hold a special attraction to me, such as the shinies in Rift and EQ2, or the archaeology toys, pets, and mounts in WoW, ingredients in Skyrim, currencies in Path of Exile, all the cards in Hearthstone, etc. Collecting gives a warm fuzzy to those who enjoy accumulating the pixels. It’s a hook. Without the hook, the yen to travel exceeds the yearn to keep logging in.

Certainly, it wasn’t the only reason I didn’t invest the sort of time into GW2 that I gave GW1. I haven’t entirely given up on the idea that eventually I’ll get back to it. That’s why I check the forums and the main news page. Inventory increases and account-wide dyes are the top two things I hope to see.

Just like CrashTest, I never bought any dyes from the shop because I don’t have a main, per se. Instead, I have too many characters all wanting the same palette to choose from. I’d have been so excited to have collected EVERY color if it were account-wide. It would have become a money sink, fersure.

Instead, I was disappointed it wasn’t an option even at a higher cost and spent nothing on dyes.

From an OCD standpoint, it’s all (potentially) or nothing, actually.

Despite wandering off from Guild Wars 2 (and, yes, this little dye issue was part of that drift,) I still care enough that I check back now and then to see if anything has changed for the better. An account-wide dye system would be a lovely enticement to come back and really start to develop all the characters I had such grand plans for…

Dye. It would be ever so much more fun to obtain a new color if you knew all your characters could benefit from the expanded palette.

Actually surprised that this isn’t in the game by now…

The fishing in Rift is an exemplary model. You can target where your cast is going to land, and the targetable area changes its graphic to indicate whether you’re going to fish in a pool or shallow or deep water. You can get shinies (and every game needs collectable shinies, nothing addicts my family more =) or treasure chests with recipes and money in them. Oh, and fish. :}

Also the ability to make lures from the common fish is pure genius. I really love fishing and being able to have little farms. I’d thoroughly enjoy being able to raise vegetables, spices, egg laying hens and such on a homestead.

Erratic, unfocused, and just odd? That’s my playstyle! =)

Bots are about the opposite of erratic. Teleporting bots: I’ve never seen them take a step. They blip from point to point and attack if they’re within range of a targetable mob.

The funniest one I ever saw was in Queensdale. Somehow she’d targeted a pail of water at a local farm and was helpfully splashing every weed clump along the river. She must have been botting the prof “wetlands conservationist.”

Another type of bot runs a predetermined path, but the stops they make are based on a mob spawning within range. Once the mob is dead, they’re off and running. But they won’t go beyond their route. The ones I saw doing this, also in that hotbed for baby bots that is Queensdale, had such a short route being performed by so many that they were stacking up on top of each other, making their mechanical actions extremely apparent.

But lack of focus is my modus operandi. I think my favorite thing to do is go gathering, traipsing from plant to ore to tree. What I love about it, unstructured as it is, is how it always leads to discovering adventure along the way. Unplanned fun is so much sweeter.

Tomkatt, the block list is a super place to put’em. I guess I had mentally categorized blocking for the insistent gold sellers cluttering chat, but it’s also a great catch-all for the bots.

Thanks for suggesting it!

Well, huh… I didn’t know there was any notice taken of contacts. My only concern was being “friended” by the bot as I’d appear in their “follower” list, but since they’re not really at the keyboard, I doubted the person running the program would ever notice.

I appreciate the cautionary advice, Debsylvania. I’ll remove them from my list since I don’t want to interfere in any investigations that might take place. As for falling under suspicion, I would hope that’d be improbable as I’m the one reporting each and every bot that I’ve got on my list. :}

It was mildly depressing, anyhoo. The vast majority I’ve reported are still green, constantly online, and going strong.

Thanks for the head’s up!

I’m seeing a rise in bots that use a blipping around method that stands out quickly in a field of real players. They don’t run anywhere, they just teleport from point A to point B.

There’s also some bots on a fixed path that’s repeated over and over, stopping whenever they encounter a mob. The ones I saw had a very short route, making it easy to spot. In Queensdale, there are several using the same route and stacking on top of each other, making it painfully obvious.

I report each one that I see, but I also put them on my contact list so I can rejoice when they’re MIA. At least, that’s my optimistic hope! ^.^

Play through personal story again on same character?

Please make it possible to switch one’s Order.

As it was indicated by Ree Soesbee:

The choice of an order is not compulsory, however, you can’t progress through the full extent of the storyline unless you do so. You can change orders once you’ve chosen one – with a little effort – but parts of the storyline are linked to the orders, so in order to see certain facets of the personal story, you will need to join one. That said, you can play the game without joining one if you truly choose to do so.

My daughter is disheartened by finding out after her choice that the gear from another Order suited her roleplaying character far more, and yet is unattainable. Few things should be irrevocable in character builds, and while it may not be a choice to be made lightly, there should be some way to change allegiance, however difficult the process.
