I would suggest including capital letters, lower case, numbers and symbols in random order. Don’t use your name, your email, or a common word found in the dictionary, those can be hacked much easier.

No need to be presumptuous, he may not have been brute forced. Even with basic passwords, there are billions of combinations. Dictionary attacks aren’t even as effective when throttled. It’s a lot easier to get passwords through social engineering or exploits. Plus, it’s a lot easier to get direct access to someones computer if remotely accessible, since users usually use bad passwords (like zxcv) and don’t employ the same security measures server admins do (fail2ban, or whatever the Windows equivalent would be). There’s also password recycling and viruses and all the other usual nonsense. Point is, brute force is probably the least likely of scenarios.

Since you got hacked, just submit a ticket with when it happened. They can go back and see what happened and take appropriate action on the user/IP that was responsible. If you get any information on the IP itself (not sure if ANet emails you alerts), you can do a whois on the IP and report them to the abuse@ address listed if you can list some proof of them compromising your security (if they gained access to your computer).

Because it’s 100% impossible to be compromised otherwise. They could have brute forced your password. You could have a virus. Your email may have been compromised. They could have just found an exploit. There’s many other scenarios other than you entering your password on a fansite.

It’s not impossible to be compromised from the inside, but it’s highly unlikely that happened. They would be required to inform their customers if personal information was compromised. If they have direct access to your credentials, why would they even tamper with your character? They could likely do far more than take someones stuff. They’re usually gold farmers. Did you get an IP address? Report them or take matters into your own hands.

You do know how MMO businesses work correct? 1 time box fees cover development cost (possibly) but the Server up-time fees (roughly 15-20K a year per server) are on-going fees. Which means they re-occurring revenue. Their only means of that is the gem shop.

It’s how all micro-transaction business models work.

They could colocate their equipment, which is what other larger MMOs do. You can get a rack for about 1-2k a month. Rift ran on blades IIRC. They also may have adjusted server costs into the base price long enough to get an expansion out.

By they way, if they are fixing issues why would people leave for that other game? You seem to be in the minority of disliking the fix. If you don’t like the game just leave.

People were using karma goods for good experience and karma>gold conversion. I don’t mind so much having to forage for most goods, but salt and pepper is used in quite a bit of recipes. Maybe they could put it back as karma and make the sell price low. The experience aspect is pretty limited being a level 0 recipe.

You dieing also makes your pet disappear. Maybe they used the same train of thought with the spell. Does it happen with other classes? It could just be a bug.

I use two shortbows, identical stats/sigil, and two bears. I’ve been using this through the 30s and 40s and mobs 4-5 levels over me still die quickly. It’s poor for multiple mobs, so having axe/horn in your bags is ideal for when you run into a group or event. I lose all benefits to swapping weapon and pet, but with my spec I get 20% crit and swiftness with 50% uptime and between swapping pets and QZ I get a few seconds of god mode here and there, plus there’s a trait for +might to pet when swapped.

It’s a bland strategy with no adaptability but it’s very bursty very often, which is great for grinding hearts. Has worked alright in WvWvW, but there’s way better builds for that.
