None of these are reasonable options for a variety of reasons. I’m sorry that map completion is such a difficult chore for you and that I can’t be bothered, but suck it up.
Thanks for your deep insight. Care to explain?
For starters: experience, money and karma. Map completion consists of a lot of xp, at least a couple gold and a lot of karma from all the hearts. When you pop your world compete potion do you just instantly get all those things, because that sounds more pay to win than anything else that has ever been on the market. If you do not get all those things, then that is a massive waste of resources for a minor convenience.
The game isn’t intended to be skipped so heavily, just because you’ve done it before. Unlocking every WP in the game all of a sudden is also extensively pay to win, under those circumstances since you no longer have to explore the areas to gain access to them, you can just pop a potion and away you go.
There are any number of other reasons this is bad, but those are good enough.
I said you wouldn’t get any rewards associated with unlocking maps (that includes hearts and Gift of Exploration). You may think it’s a waste of resources, but I like having everything unlocked.
And how is unlocking all waypoints in the game suddenly pay to win? I’m not gaining a stat advantage over nonplaying players, just time advantage on an alt for something that I’ve already done before.Yes, a new character that can skip content is a character that has an advantage and can level faster and has access to everything faster. That is an advantage. Pay to Win isn’t only related to gear.
By that logic, boosters and the unlimited harvesting tools are also pay to win because they can level faster and have access to all nodes without going to a merchant. Same with revive orbs, utility primers, expresses, Home Portal Stone, or bag/bank expansions; they all give things to a paying player than an unpaying player doesn’t get (except with login rewards).
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but gemstore items are pay for convenience, which is what this item would be.And wouldn’t you know, some people do actually consider some of those things to be P2W. But no, my logic is specifically about bypassing content in order to level. Pay to Win means that instead of doing content you spent money and suddenly that content is done. Usually that content is some super powerful weapon. Other times it’s just leveling up by using an item. In this case it’s map completion.
Most people define pay to win as a process where you fork over money in order to advance or gain an unfair advantage over other players. But we’ve already done map completion. In some cases, multiple times. THE CONTENT IS ALREADY DONE. We’re in essence transferring over our completion from one character to another.
If we’re done arguing semantics, please give me an alternative idea like some of the other people in this thread have done instead of explaining why your opinion is so much more reasonable than mine.

I disagree.
It would thin out the player population.
Maps would be wastelands.I agree with Machiavell’s waypoint idea.
Player population shouldn’t be affected by this much ever since the introduction of megaservers. At least in my experience, people who have done map completion multiple times aren’t going to devote as much time to it as newer players, so all it’s doing is removing a small amount of the veteran playerbase from the map.
How would this handle people who buy this then change their mind about crafting onr of the old Legendaries or new Legendaries come out and they want to craft one? They can’t make a new toon and get a gift of exploration. Are they forever locked out because of a decision they made and then the situation changed?
“It would only be available to people with at least one character with 100% map completion”-so you already have 2 gifts from your first character, plus more if you have multiple 100% map completions. Or you could just start a new character and do it again.
Well, they can’t make a new character and do it again to get another gift of exploration if they already bought and used this item.
It may be extremely rare for someone to lock himself out of crafting future Legendaries but rare among a population of an mmo may still be hundreds to thousands of players. While it may be a convenience item for many players it’s possible that ANet won’t want to sell something that permanently locks people out of future content.
Oh, you’re misunderstanding me. The 100% map completion would be for one character only. I’ll edit that in my OP.

Hello guys, forgive me if I’m not posting in the correct part of the forums or if someone has mentioned this before.
I was thinking that with the upcoming expansion and new revenant class, it would be extremely tedious to redo all of map completion, especially for those of us with multiple 100% map completed characters. To counter this, ArenaNet could introduce a gemstore item that unlocks 100% map completion for the vanilla game. It would only be available to people with at least one character with 100% map completion, and you would not receive any rewards for completing the zones, including the Gifts of Exploration. It would also be a hefty price in gems (I’m thinking about 1600) so that people will have to actually weigh the benefits of getting it or not.
It would be a lifesaver for those of us who have the need to have everything unlocked and not have to go through it again for another character. I’m expecting that some people will counterargue that it deprives you of learning the new class from scratch and exploring Tyria’s beautiful landscape, but it is really a chore after completing it more than twice. Any other advantages/disadvantages that you guys can think of?
Edit: To clarify, this is for one character only.
Edit 2: Going off of Puls’s idea, this could also be a 1-time purchase.
