And I’m by no mean an expert in real life military strategy, but it’s basically the same deal with infiltration, sabotage etc.
If you want to compare it to real life, then roamers are the special forces of GW. More akin to the Long Range Recon Patrols of Vietnam I suppose. 4-5 guys running around in the enemy’s backyard, blowing stuff up, wrecking general havoc, and hiding or running when they’re outnumbered.
I suppose a lot of you aren’t old enough to remember Vietnam. The section here on LRRPs in ’Nam is pretty interesting. “Outguerrilla the guerrillas”

Anyone here old enough to remember The Rat Patrol? Or am I just carbon-dating myself? LOL
I’ve been away for 2 years. In the past I’d always been more of a defensive player in WvW. I enjoyed building up the defenses on a tower, keeping an eye on the nearby guards and camps, chasing off roamers who came into my area, etc. What I’ve seen over the past week is 0 roamers trying to cap camps or guards – only zergs would attempt it after they took a nearby keep. And nobody trying to kill yaks at all except for the day that was one of the dailies.
So I’d sit in my keep for a little while, but there’s nothing to repair so my Participation Level would be crap. And building defensive siege doesn’t count for anything, so there’s no points for that. Eventually I’d get bored and go join a mini-zerg to capture a tower and get my PL up, at which point the other team would naturally cap my now undefended tower, trashing all of the siege I just built.
It all seemed like a pointless exercise. Nobody even seems to care about defending objectives anymore. And I couldn’t help but feel like a big part of it was b/c you didn’t get any rewards for it. Am I missing something?
They’re very specific when buying the Ultimate Edition that it may take up to 72 hours for your gems to be delivered. I understand the frustration b/c I lost out on buying the character slot and something else on discount last week for this reason, but I don’t think you’re going to have any luck getting them to discount the items after the sale is over.
The problem is, by the time I go here and go there to get the tasks done, I’m either irritated, bored or both. I wasn’t playing during that time. I was jumping thru hoops for the rewards (which I do want).
This. A hundred times this.
Agreed. Plus I’ve probably spent as much money jumping from WP to WP trying to catch events as I’ve earned in reward mats.
Please go back to the old Daily system.
My mobo – an MSI Z97-G45 – uses Qualcomm’s Killer Network Manager to manage bandwidth usage. I disabled that and it seems to have fixed my problem.
This is not a router issue. I’ve got GW2 installed on 2 different PCs running through the same router. The game runs fine on my 6 year old PC. I get frequent stuttering and crashes on my 2 month old PC.
I’d been on a break from GW2 since buying the new PC and just started playing again 6 days ago. The first few days I only experienced the stuttering and only maybe once per hour. Then last night while playing with a friend I had 4 crashes within a single hour. After the 4th crash I rebooted my PC and that seemed to clear up the crashes, but I still encountered stuttering one more time.
Oddly, I split my time about 50/50 between PvE and WvW and I don’t remember having any of these problems in WvW. Even while running w/the WvW zerg.
My new PC’s stats:
i5-4690 Haswell
16 GB RAM
GTX-660 2GB – latest drivers & optimized to run GW2 using nVidia’s suggested settings
Samsung Magician SSD
750W power supply
I will look for a crash/error log tonight and post what I find.
I think OP just wants to see everyone running around in their underpants.
Is this the same GoCI from the original Guild Wars?
I’m not so concerned that you can’t complete it anymore, but why not remove it from the list of Achievements then Anet? As players we expect to be able to do everything that’s on that list. Obviously that isn’t true in this case.
