Showing Posts For Chuckles.2509:
I have swapped out from zerk to marauder and it has made open world HoT so much easier, I can afford to make mistakes and survive a hit now! I now understand how to play staff way more as well, so may slowly change things back to zerk but to be honest the dps feels pretty similar, and the extra 3k health makes a huge difference. I’m also using runes of scrapper for extra toughness and 7% damage reduction, but also thinking of changing those back to something more dps oriented, though will wait to see what the raids are like first. Just need to keep experimenting with your build.
Phew, I was worried I had done something wrong or got a dodgy card or something. Thanks for the explanations.
My game keeps crashing, especially during world bosses. I see it says OOM, which I’m told means out of memory, but I don’t understand how/why.
It has been happening since HoT came out, but also last week my GPU died, so I upgraded to a GTX 980 which also arrived on Friday, so I’m assuming that is somehow the culprit? I have updated the drivers for it. Crash report is below but I don’t really understand it, any help would be appreciated.

While I’m not entirely convinced we need weapon swap, we do definitely need some sort of way to have range while in d/d or other close range set-ups. I too often find myself run into a dynamic event chain which has champions appear at some point, and suddenly I can’t do anything. If I try to attack I am dead constantly as I can’t take many hits, and in these events there is so much going on I can’t see the champion to see when the attack is coming so can’t roll out the way. But as I usually run around d/d I find I’m stuck in close range or not taking part in the event. Or running away until it says I’m no longer in combat so I can go to inventory and swap to staff and run back just in time to watch the champion die and the event is over…
I absolutely love playing elementalist, however you have to be able to play it right. From what I’ve heard it takes more skill to play it properly, which I like to think I do. I just want to say if you do role ele, my advice is remember to pick traits which allow you to swap between attunements easily, as many elementalists seem to overlook this (as I did initially, and since completely changing my play style it has made a huge difference to my effectiveness). Also I love the arcana tree as the 30 trait point skill turns your roll into another attack, and this mixed with an earlier skill in that tree (something about chance for extra vigor on crits, which basically increases roll recharge rate) means that you can just keep dodging and rolling out of danger while still landing dmg.
It is a class all about constant movement and knowing how to flow between dmg, defence and healing and back through again, but once you understand it, it is so rewarding. Even if it is underpowered like some people claim, for me, when I successfully nail some epic combo and dodge stuff it looks so cool and feels so good I couldn’t play anything else.
I have to say I agree with you if you pick certain traits, such as more dmg in a certain attunement, you loose any desire to swap out. I fell into this trap with fire, and found the game incredibly difficult to solo. My opinion is to avoid these traits. Personally I would like some of these traits to be replaced with more helpful things, as these lead people down paths which make elementalists less effective.
What I have recently started doing is d/d with full arcana and auto-cast on the auras from air and water. I then put all traits in giving me boons for stance-dancing and applying auras, which gives me near permanent swiftness as well as long lasting protection, fury and might and health regen, which makes up for lack of natural dmg. This basically makes me need to swap all the time, but also has made my elementalist a lot more powerful, I have gone with struggling 1v1 to being able to take 3 or more at a time (though it took some time to get used to as it is a lot harder play style). Also I agree with above about the arcane trait which gives a chance to increase vigor, as you get so much rolling ability from it, and couple this with the arcane trait that does an attack after a roll and suddenly the best/most different part of this game just became better.
The vid that helped me a lot was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PKPbboLqzM&list=UUYUY9_i44IDNOs_Ja815mlA&index=5&feature=plcp though I have altered the build slightly for my own personal choice (found I wanted to swap attunements even quicker then it was allowing, so took fire down 10 to put into arcane).
All that said I don’t know how this matches up in pvp. Good luck.
