“Condition Remover.” “Gatherer.” “Reviver.” Dailies that you could do at any level, anywhere on the map, during your……well, daily play.

Today’s dailies include going to a specific map, clicking on a vista that I already clicked on in Ascalon (a level 1 area), going to another specific map, cutting four trees down in Queensdale (a level 1 area)…and then going to another specific map and completing four events in Silverwastes (a level 80 area), or going to another specific map and doing a fractal run (a level 80 area).

So, you can’t do PvE dailies without a level 80. Either bring your 80 and be bored out of your skull in Ascalon, or bring your <80 and die instantly in Silverwastes.

Interestingly, I asked in map chat, “Seriously? I need a level 80 to finish the PvE dailies?” and was told “yeah, but it doesn’t take that long to get 80.”

We just keep drinking the koolaid…

Is there still a Guild Wars "1?"

I cannot access my original Guild Wars account any more. My wife cannot create a new Guild Wars account, nor play the trial.

There does not seem to be any support forum or E-mail resource for Guild Wars, and it appears from the website that the latest update was in 2007.

Is the game still being played? Where can I get support for the original Guild Wars?

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

RNG as a concept: Discuss

As a concept any system that creates rewards based on the number of hours that you play the game is…..well, the reason I left WoW and DAoC and UO and on and on.

If the RNG generator is broken, fix it. These solutions are like the mechanic saying “Your car still makes that really loud ticking noise, but I increased the volume on your radio, so you’re all set!”

Here’s one for ya:

I want to buy two amulets. I search (amulets are under “armor,” btw). I find 95 of the amulets I want listed for sale. I click the amulet, scroll the quantity to 2, and click “Buy Instantly.”

The amulets I want have already been sold. There are 95 for sale, but the exact ones I tried to buy are already sold. Because, you know, I really DID want the exact two that I evidently selected when I scrolled up to “2.”

No matter. I’ll try to buy two more, different, identical amulets. I click the amulet, scroll up to 2, and Buy Instantly.

But now, I don’t have the money to buy them. I did before, but I don’t now. Why? Because the TP took my money when I tried to buy the two different identical amulets the first time.

I take a trip to the TP, collect the money that I spent when I didn’t buy the exact two amulets of the 95 that I was trying to buy when I was trying to buy any of the 95 identical amulets before.

Click TP, search for the amulets again (which are under “armor,” btw), click the 93 amulets, scroll up to 2, and buy two.

I wonder which exact two of the 93 identical amulets I got? I sure hope I didn’t buy the two that some other poor guy was trying to buy. It would suck to be THAT guy.

Maybe the “Buy Instantly” button should be renamed to the “Buy, Maybe” button.

Here’s one for you: I needed to buy 8 platinum ore. Just 8.

Open the TP. Search for platinum.
Click the platinum ore.
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8.
Click Place Ord….no, wait, I want to buy instantly.
Click the top “Current Sellers.”
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8 AGAIN.
Click Buy Instantly
See a red box, telling me that the thing I was trying to buy has already been sold.
Click out of the box.
Click the top “Current Seller” AGAIN
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8 AGAIN
Click Buy Instantly
See an orange box telling me that I bought 3
Click the top “Current Seller” AGAIN
Scroll the tiny arrow to 5
Click “Buy Instantly”
Get a yellow box telling me I bought 5
Click to close the box.
Click to close the TP.

Wow.

What does “Total Price” mean when selling an item? Why is it called the “Total Price,” when it is not the total of any prices?

If I buy apples, and the price is .89 per apple…and I buy one of them, the price is 89 cents per apple. If I buy 100 of them, the price is…..89 cents per apple.

Cost, well that’s something else. Sounds like nit-picking, but it’s little things like that, added up, that make the new TP very confusing.

When selling, “Total Price” is neither the price, nor is it the total. Nor is it the net profit. It is the amount of money that the buy will pay for your stuff. I don’t care what the buyer pays, I care how much money I get. Break out the calculator.

[Feedback] Selling at the new trading post

There are lots and lots of things wrong with the new trading post buy/sell procedures.

Buying:
The default is not to buy something, but to place an order for something. I wonder how many people actually want to place an order when they click “Buy” in the trading post, compared to the number of people that actually want to…..well, buy something. When I’m in a hurry and need food in WvW, I open the trading post, click “Buy Items,” select the food, click the button…and place an order. Not good.

When I DO click the top item in “current sellers,” I cannot buy more than the top seller is selling without increasing the amount that I want to pay manually. “Increase your price to purchase more?” Why? Why do I manually have to enter what I want to pay for items, when I can see that they are for sale at a price, and I want to buy them at that price? Why can’t I just scroll my quantity up to how many I want, see what I have to pay, and click buy? Instead, I have to tell the trading post what I WILL pay first?

“Increase your quantity to buy at this price?” Buy at what price? The total price? No. The max. price? No. What exactly does “increase your quantity to buy at this price” mean? And why would I want to buy at a certain price? Why can’t I increase the quantity to what I want, and then see what the price is? You don’t go into a grocery store saying, “I want to buy garlic, but I’m not going to pay more than xxx for it.” You especially don’t go into the grocery store saying, “I want to buy 200 cloves of garlic, and I don’t want to pay more than 89 cents per clove, so that’s….$178. Yeah, I’m not going to pay more than $178 for 200 cloves of garlic.”

No, you look for the price of garlic, and then decide how many you’d like to buy. What is “max price?” Why do I have to set the maximum amount that I will pay for all of the items I want to buy BEFORE I select them to buy? Who wants to calculate that anyway? I’m sure everyone is scrolling max price up to something ridiculous, just so they can select the quantity they want, and then see if they want to pay the “Total Price.”

After I buy something, I get a big yellow box that tells me that I can pick up my item at a Black Lion merchant. That is very useful information….the first 100 times. After buying 50,000 items, I know where to pick it up. A big yellow box, covering up everything, to tell me something that I already know, that I have to click through, isn’t very useful.

Incidentally, on that big yellow box, there is a “CLOSE” and “OK” button. The OK button takes me back to the same buying window, where I can buy more if…..what? If I bought the wrong amount? I’d just wind up closing that window, which is what the close button does.

Selling:

It is possible to see a list of items that are contained in a backpack, without that backpack being highlighted. This is confusing.

Usually I’m selling one of something. The only things I care about are: 1) What is the highest price that I can get for it right now, and 2) what is the lowest price that it’s being sold for? I can place a price somewhere in that spread if I want to, or I can just get rid of it instantly. I don’t need to know that if 13,456 of them are sold, then I can get 2 more copper for it. I don’t need to know the lowest price that the first ten thousand of them are being sold for, and then the price that the next ten thousand are being sold for, ad infinitum. Just let me scroll up the quantity, see what I can get for it, see what price I have to beat to get rid of it first, and sell. Every buyer and seller of every quantity at every price is just a waste of screen real estate and is confusing.

I used to be able to sell an item, then click another item and click to sell it, then click another item and click to sell it. Now I have to open a open a backpack, click to sell, click a button on a big yellow box, open another backpack, click to sell, click on a button on a big yellow box, etc.

The backpack selection feature isn’t a good one. If the Black Lion layout was identical to the inventory layout, maybe. But it’s a vertical list that you have to compare to a horizontal list, so trying to break things down by backpack isn’t really useful. I’d rather just have a long, alphabetized list of things in my inventory that I can scroll through. I know, I can turn the backpack filter off and then click to alphabetize the list, but that’s a bit cumbersome.

There are quite a few other things that are just plain confusing or not useful at all (“ordering 1, 0 others?” a check box next to “buying 2/2” and a minus sign next to “buying 3 of 1075?”)

Maybe I’ll get used to it. But maybe, just maybe, it could be a lot better. In the meantime, I’m getting tired of placing orders when I expect to buy.

Magic find and keeping the user base.

I’m pretty new to the game, and don’t know enough about this system to truly discuss the details, but as I read through the latest notes about magic find, I can’t help but respond to:

“There is a wide range of opinions on the best way to go and what’s acceptable in a group….”

The reason I left UO, and DAoC, and WoW, etc. is because the prevailing attitude of the game developers is that a difference of opinion on the best way to go is a bad thing. One by one, each option in each game was removed, each different opinion was quashed, until everyone had the same opinion on “the best way to go.”

And then everyone went the same way, played the same way, and the playing field was perfectly level. And boring. A sad illustration is in DAoC, where a ranger tries to fire an arrow too quickly, and is greeted with “you must wait to cast that spell again!” Devs actually admitted that they just copied/pasted the entire spellcasting system into the ranger system. Way to make a player feel unique.

I REALLY hope that doesn’t happen here. I REALLY hope that Guild Wars continues to offer more and MORE possibilities, differences of opinion, multiple “ways to go.” Let those of us who see challenges as opportunities to succeed do exactly that.
