I hope thats a typo and it’s supposed to be:
‘Area of effect heals and boons now prioritize players [over] minions and NPCs.’
or that you can read it in the light of:
‘Area of effect heals and boons now prioritize players’ minions and NPCs [lower than other players].’
This is one of the aspects of the game that I’ve been anticipating the most, and I’m glad theres already rumors of a Great Axe being created. There are SO many different tools humans have developed to kill each other over the years Adding more of them to this game is a great way to add new skills to classes etc.
Guardian/Warrior: Flail. For sure. Flail and Shield? Very guardian esque Like a mace, but with a bit more range like, half or 1/3rd of the staff range. Can work for Warrior too.
Mesmer/Elementalist/Ranger: Whip. I like the whip Idea for these classes, it just seems to fit. So would a musical instrument like a harp or something
Warrior/Guardian: Halberd. Big Axe on a long Pole. Nuff said. and yes i think Guardian could work well with this., Maybe not a double-sided two-handed Great Axe. But a Halberd? For sure.
Thief/Engineer & Ranger: Claws/Brass Knuckles Respectively. Thiefs running around like the sneaky felines that they are hiding in the shadows, with their claws at the ready. and Engineers and rangers, Brass Knuckles. Yeah… I could see that working… besides, they could use a melee weapon.
Elementalist/Necro/(Mesmer?): Orb? Kind of an alternative AoE weapon to the staff, except nearly all the attacks focus on the area around the player instead of at a distance.
Necro/Mesmer: If you want to get really freaky/wierd you could give these guys a VooDoo Doll weapon. Inflict severe pain on the person your targeting, OR For mesmers, create Illusions of THE ENEMY that they have to fight. Buahahahah.
Ranger/Warrior: Crossbooooooooow.
I think it’s interesting that so many people say “Upgrade Tier 3 to Exotic” when the better choice is to say “Give me Brand New Exotic Tier 4 Cultural Armor” =).
Though looking at the prices of the Tier 3, I’d shudder at the price tag for the Tier 4. (some 200g+?). But then again, I don’t think it unreasonable. If you look at it, Cultural Armor can be considered the “Best Looking” or “most dazzling” armor in the game right now, in the same way that Legendary weapons are the “Most dazzling” weapons in the game. (Though there are many special weapons that look really cool out there for about 50-ish gold). Compared to the cost of a Legendary, Cultural Armor is a pittance. I think the cost is right where it should be.
That said, I’m excited to see what kind of NEW armors they introduce. (T4 Norn Cultural with a cape made of snow that falls apart and regrows as it hits objects and armor forged out of Icicles maybe?) Just think of the special effects they could add to armor pieces like they do legendaries.
=O
It is great being a Guardian, I love Charging in headfirst like a bonehead and surviving for 30+ seconds in a mob of 10+ people then running out alive when I’m done. Because I also, doesn’t afraid of anything.
Range is for wussies and I beat people to death with my Hammer eloquently dubbed ‘The Ugly Stick’. I can fight forever and a day, because like Wolverine, I have super regeneration like the mutant behemoth that I am. I take on champions like a champ and know nothing of fear as even the largest of foes are merely tickles upon my skin.
As a Mighty Norn, this profession is the most glorious of all.
Just wait, I bet we’ll get even better =P

It’s funny that Guardians are still tremendously OP in PvE while other classes are getting wrecked (Mesmer, Ranger). They seem to touch the heavies the least.
They couldn’t really change much about the Guardian without wrecking it completely.
I sort of agree with that. The mechanic of virtues and the way traits are setup for Guardian could make changing it pretty hard.
It’s still funny how overpowered we are compared to all other classes in PvE, though.
I would agree with this as well.
It’s why I was so surprised when I heard Anet was going to restructure the way retaliation works. Since retaliation is more deeply engrained in Guardian than any other class and a good deal of our traits and skills involve it.
It will be interesting to see how the changes they make to it will affect the make-up of Guardians playstyle. It will either be a groundbreaking improvement that redefines the class (and possibly warrant further nerfs), or a earthshattering disaster that turns it from something with potential usability, to a completely asinine spectacle of patheticness (Looks at Merciful Intervention >.>)
That said, Guardian is the Favorite Class of one of the main developers… so I’m hopeful they wont be able to mess it up too badly.
Chucks staff in the garbage Well, Thanks alot for killing the support on empower, its best skill…
looks at the improvement to the orb of light….. Mmmmmh takes it out of the garbage maybe it can still do stuff, I’ll give it another shot…. =/ if it still doesnt work out I guess i can repurpose it as a hat stand or something…..
Thats an impressive build. It beats out my build in almost all stats with only a minor loss in Max HP.
Power: 1,761
Weapon Damage: 954
Crit: 22 (+15% from Trait)
Toughness: 1,730
Defense: 1,272
Health: 15,545
Healing Power: 415
Rune of Earth x6
Cleric Exotic Armor
The key difference between our builds though is I rely on Monk’s Focus for Meditation healing to survive (and it does a kitten good job of it). I’ve heard altruistic healing is also viable, I’m not sure which one is better though. I would anticipate though that the build you’ve proposed gives alot more freedom and versatility. Crits are very powerful, and with the additional Might with every crit, even more damage is inflicted. In addition, not being tied to meditations for heals allows you more versatility in Utility skills without sacrificing battle/survivability potential.
I would have to agree that PTV is definitely the best build for a Guardian in my experience.
As a Guardian enthusiast I sign off on this build as very excellent for survivability and killing power. I’m personally very interested in it and will most likely work towards replicating it myself to see how well it works. It looks very promising.
Thanks for posting this.
(Btw, it also lets you make use of the Hammer, and Hammers rock. I’ve been wanting to use mine more for awhile now.)
I must agree with most posters on the shaky usability of some of our elites. I never use either of my tomes; I have found renewed focus somewhat useful in critical WvW situations where those 3 seconds helps me avoid massive damage. The tomes for me, alot of the abilities take too long to use. And giving up the versatility with all my weapons and utility skills for those 5 moves… I feel kittened when using them.
Most of the time I simply have Snow Leopard equipped (Norn ftw) and use #4 to help me travel long distances in WvW or to escape a huge mob of people.
I really don’t feel like my elite skills play any part in the way I play the class as I don’t focus too much on Virtues. I mean I do love my virtues… Maybe I should explore that option some more….
