This is doing my head in and making me angry. Can someone help an old man find his skills that his fingers are trained to use now.

I did rebind them but then I weap switched and arrrrr it all went pear-shaped again.

No laugh all you want but I was playing by pure instinct because I had totally trained my fingers to the buttons. Now I am playing an out of control bot..

I get this corrupt thing all the time. In fact right now to be exact. But the game will only go and crash and corrupt another file, and sometimes my GPU driver will get corrupt at the same time.

Can any of you reproduce the crashes and BSOD out side of GW2?

I can’t! that makes me sad because to me this means GW2 is non compatible with my PC.

I will have to go for a refund now and go on my way with a different opinion of Arenanet.

Or

Wait it out and hope that Arenanet wake up and realize the game has a flaw somewhere then fix it.

Karpalo that sounds like my story accept that you get more GW2 up time than I do ^ ^

I have managed to get to lvl 12 in 17 days ;S been sat here everyday since the 1st trying to play the game (usually get ten mins a day) then spend all day and night trying to make it work. Not what I thought I was buying!

Just rebooted from driver install, time to see how fast I crash assuming the game gets passed char selection.

It is a driver issue and there is no fix as of yet. BSOD, hard resets, sound loop and perfect freeze where you can’t even get the capslock light to light up. All can happen on same computer.

Windows, GPU drivers and GW2 is a deadly mix for some reason. GW2 crashes kernel and rest is history. Right now i would have to put blame on GW2, since this problem cannot be reproduced outside this specific game.

/signed

And it is exactly what I have been saying. GW2 is messing in Kernel layer (Ring0) when itkittenwell should not be in there. Or something like that or It is trying to access memory that is already in use, in other words it is trying to bypass windows request for memory. = Corruptions and BSOD and freezes and so on.
It should send the request to windows and then wait But it is behaving like a spoiled brat or an excited drunk teenager lol.

I am right in the middle of cleaning all radeon drivers again. I was on the 12.9 leaked, prior to that it was 12.8 Sapphire release, prior to that it was 12.8 AMD release.

I tried custom profiles to run the clocks at max and stop AMDPowerplay spiking them etc.

It is a Sapphire Radeon HD5750

Ok I am off to install the 12.8 AMD again. I think I got an 8 hour GW2 session right after I installed them on Sunday.

Went and played several other games such as D3, PoE, Skyrm and some others.

Not a crash or BSOD or freeze… to be seen. :S This just messes with my head.

So I started to relax and enjoy gaming again but .. I am missing my Mesmer and the fun of GW2 so I could not resist and loaded the game but I got in game long enough to say high to my guild but never got to reply due to GW2 crash.
Rebooted and tried again, and got on longer this time. Managed a quick event then GW2 crash.

I tried again .. but I got a BSOD at character select.

Rebooted and tried D3. 1 hour into that and it is still running as I type this and discuss GW2 problems in D3 chat with quite a lot of others that have the same random crashes as I have and many others on here do. WTF!

It is really hard to not point the finger at the GW2 client. It is the only common denominator.

unless one of my early theories that Corsair RAM and GW2 are shouting Fluffy Kittens at one another..

95% of the time you have a BSOD with a computer, it’s because of memory stick problem. You just said that you bought some new ram 3-4 days ago. Can you test with another set of ram to see if everything goes fine?

Don’t get angry when it’s not their fault. No game can kill a computer, lol.

Yeah and 99% of the time a BSOD is software driver related. Are you just repeating what others have said in games forums?

memtest was run for over 10 hours pass after pass after pass = 100% error free…

Aye what a mess GW2 is.

Now the game wont even start! Just loops in “repairing data archive” but well it fails at that. The same data archive that it used for over 7 hours straight yesterday.

Now.. How can so many people be having such extreme and random problems all of a sudden when they introduce GW2 on to the PC?

Now.. How can so many people be having such extreme and random problems all of a sudden when they introduce GW2 on to the PC?I am an MS certified hardware and software tech. Have been for over 12 years. The only time my PC goes haywire is when I try and play GW2. Now if my PC was even slightly unstable I would experience problems with other intensive applications I use! For example other 2012 high end video games. My photograph developing software.. Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
And today when GW2 did launch it would crash before 30 mins playtime but then the gw2.exe process can not be terminated! That is ALARMING! resulting in a hard reset of PC then after login I start to get driver related bsod. Somehow GW2 is in RING0 the kernel layer that has access to hardware. When it should be in RING1. Passing requests to RING0. It does not seem to be the case. Is GW2.exe crashing and corrupting drivers
At least that is what it seems to be doing.
I would really like to get access to a PC that can run GW2 24/7 with out a crash so I can do some investigating and comparisons.
I would also really like Arenanet to acknowledge that this is under investigation.
So far I feel like I have wasted money but more importantly A LOT OF TIME!

Update.

Heading the advice from the above report I went to Saphires product page for my video card and DL their Beta drivers (catalyst_12-7_beta_windows7_20120629).

I then DL the driver sweeper program that the GW2 team have mentioned to people. I did not like the driver fusion which is what the dev of driver sweeper tries to force you to use. I tried it and don’t like it.

I then uninstalled catalyst drivers using windows add remove.

rebooted pc and ran driver sweeper to analyze AMD display and then cleaned all entries.

rebooted pc and ran driver sweeper again to analyze AMD display. Nothing to clean

I then installed the beta catalyst drivers I DL above.

Not had a single crash or a single BSOD since.

I have GW2 running for a solid 6 hours now.

May be worth running WhoCrashed on your own PC to see what it finds in the BSOD dump files if you are experiencing problems like I have been and very much still am.

Crash Dump Analysis
————————————————————————————————————————

See attached txt file.

Conclusion
————————————————————————————————————————

On your computer a total of 36 crash dumps have been found. Only 34 could be analyzed. Only 15 are included in this report. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.

Note that it’s not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is actually responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it’s suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

Clarty.9864

Hmm yeah

I had 4 gb of Corsair (paired twin set) that I replaced 3 days after buying GW2.
This was due to non stop crashes and BSOD and computer freezes.

I now have a single 4gb Corsair stick in. I can not get the PC to boot with 8 or 6 gb in (all or part all of the Corsair RAM)
I can only get the PC to boot with either the single 4GB stick or the original twin kit.

PC seems flaky with the twin kit despite being a solid PC before, that means nothing really. I remember when I commissioned the PC I had to RMA the brand new twin kit RAM and Corsair tested it as faulty. Due to that I had no hesitation replacing the RAM.
But you have to wonder, why did I buy Corsair again (I wanted to use it all on the chance that there is no faults with any of it) :S I think that might have been v stupid.
Or my ASUS mobo is a POS and v fickle with RAM..

All the RAM passes memtest and windows mem test and ASUS mem test.

Clarty.9864

Aye now this is interesting.

I have same CPU/GPU
But I have 4gb RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

I had that problem with the game when I had a working install of the game.

Can you let me know if the RAM you use is from Corsair?

It is a shame you are on Windows Vista! For that is a non supported OS now and a very tricky and awkward one as well.

I am in the process of re installing (download part) of the game. For about the 6th time lol.

Last night I went to my Mobo website and installed every available download and I found a driver I have never ever had installed “North Bridge Filter Driver” this came in a Catalyst (AMD/ATI GPU) install package, all the other parts of the package were all ready installed and up to date but the missing driver was not present.

So this missing driver is not part of the new most up to date catalyst drivers from AMD.

There was some other minor stuff I got a swell such a PC Diagnostic tool from ASUS, just a very basic component stress tester and reporting tool. All my hardware passed.

emm… I updated every driver I could. And so far (touch wood) the PC has been back to its solid stable old self. So much I am now considering re installing my “Business apps”.
My PC is not just for games! It is also my Self Employment office PC. And it is also my Photo Development and Photo Art tool. All my creative work comes from here and I have been out of action due to purchasing and installing GW2.

Moral of that is, get a second PC for games. A third one for Photo work and laptop for Office work..
sheeeesh yeah right lol I am sure the hardware companies would love that.
I call that over consuming. In a day and age where I am doing all I can to reduce the electricity demand I make on the national grid. :S

I gave up overclocking PC’s about 8 years ago.

I have formatted all my drives now IDE/SATA and reinstalled windows on them both and dual boot now between the two trying different windows configs. Like with and with out SP1.
Testing if it is anything to do with the drives, I have also removed and added my optical drives and at the present I have then all disconnected.
I replaced all my RAM with new same brand and quantity but different model.

If this was someone else’s PC and they asked my opinion and advice on the fault I would not hesitate to finger the mobo as the fault. So that is probably what I will replace next. It is an Asus board and I must admit I have not been that happy with it.
All my other home builds were Abit or Gigabyte.

I also maintain a belief that if it is GW2 “pushing the right button” so to speak yeah, then I would think it only fair and business smart for Arenanet to identify what and if it can be stopped then do so. For the greater of all the customers.
Perhaps it suits Arenanet that a chunk of their customers are unable to participate in what could be the greatest MMO experience in over 10 years! <— sad face cause I am not able to be one of them.

I think it is fair to say there is an issue somewhere.

GW2 either caused it or identified it.

What is bothering a lot of people and myself included is that all other games released to the public domain run just fine on my PC and other peoples PC’s.

I have read enough in these forums and other forums that all share my exact problem when GW2 was introduced on to the PC.

Now would my PC have crapped out that same day regardless of my purchasing and attempting to install the game? Or would I have continued with a fine stable PC for another year or more before I began to reach mtbf on components?

Hello again, I fear all my topics and my single support ticket are lost and ignored.

I had a perfectly solid and stable PC up to 1st Sept. Since I introduced GW2 to the computer I have had to endure nothing but PC crashes. Freezes. Bsod.

Now I am totally unable to use the PC. Can not even watch a film on it.

I have tested the Hardware and it all passes. Most of the parts are all under a 2 years old. Some parts of my hardware like my RAM is only 3-4 days old now due to me trying to resolve the problems.

I just want some action from Arenanet now with my ticket!

There is something not right with the GW2 client and it is breaking computers. It is fitness testing computers so hard it is breaking hardware.!

This is not acceptable. I am going to have buy more components now in order to get my computer working again. This is also not acceptable.

My experience with GW1 one was much love and respect for Arenanet.
My experience with GW2 is actually worse than my Diablo3 One.. O.o

I am heartbroken guys.. v upset and I am getting angry.

I even closed the game when I was content with my time playing, and continued to use my PC to watch some TV.
Next morning I launched GW2. It Re – downloaded the game and then BSOD.
Nothing works now with regards to GW2.
I am using my PC though and it is solid. It is stable and I can run every other game that exists. I can even multi-session other games. But dare I go anywhere GW2.EXE then it is just Pete tong time.. BSOD mainly. Or just a full locked up pc.
I have now removed GW2 and started a brand new download/install onto a new HDD. A new 1tb SATA drive that GW2 has never yet seen. It is at 47% now.
I have submitted a support ticket with all the required files. I just hope this problem that is affecting thousands of us gets the serious attention it needs. Failing all this then I suppose it is the refund route
But honestly GW2.EXE is just FUBAR… If you think otherwise then your mistaken and a very lucky person to be able to play. And I would say to you “instead of slamming me or trying to blame my pc or troubleshooting skills” spend that time Google searching “gw2 and bsod/crashing problems” and try that search on the GW2 tech support forums as well. o.o
If GW2 was my project and I was in charge .. you would see some action and words about this topic! From the team! I would be responding with full throttle to fix this.

I have been trying to download and install gw2 since I bought deluxe on Sat 1st Sept.
I finally got the game installed this morning and managed to log in and create a character. I got to the first NPC and accepted his fed-ex.
I had to AFK at this point but on return to PC all was not well. Black screen scrolling txt looking for CD ROM! looking for USB boot! and looped that cycle. It was a BIOS screen.. I went POSTAL.. it took me 2-3 hours to resolve and I have this happen ever since I started the GW2 download. My wife could not believe how many times and hour my PC was chucking a BSOD. My PC never does that EVER. Not in all my years of building computers (vocation). I had to push & pull my RAM to get the PC to post again. Now I am back in windows and tried to run GW2 again but the launcher is back to 0% and over 217,100 files to DL.
But I will be amazed if it can pass 30% with out a BSOD…
Like the OP MeBladder I have had no end of trouble with GW2 and now my PC is a nervous wreck. I am not far behind it :S and I honestly feel like something nasty has happened to my PC.
I use it intensively for photography developing! And like to chill out with a good MMORPG at the end of the day. I just can not find a good MMO to play. I was hoping that GW2 would be the one. I did go through GW1 from Alpha – Beta – Omega and beyond. But GW1 is lacking and limited as you all will know but its success is a triumph.
You have many crash reports that my PC has sent to you via the GW2 reporting tool. You have all my system details. etc. But for other readers:
Asus M4A77TD Pro AMD 770 (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) Processor
4GB Corsair XMS3 (2×2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz 1.65v Dual Channel Kit – TW3X4G1333C9A
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5750 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
1TB Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 3.5" SATA II Hard Drive
550W XFX Core Edition 80PLUS Bronze Power Supply (Seasonic OEM)
The Corsair RAM was RMA’d at system commissioning time (2010) and was tested faulty. Was replaced.
I am investigating the north bridge on the mobo for over heating.. As it is passively cooled.
There is no dirt/fluff/dust/debri etc inside the PC. I cleaned it
The case is a full Aluminum Lian Li PC60USB (GORGEOUS)
My ADSL upstream is 250kbs and downstream is 6mps
Since I bought the game I have swapped RAM, swapped DVD ROM drives and HDD on the IDE controller (thinking it was a controller fault or DVD ROM fault).
I have rebuilt the Windows 7 partition on my SATA HDD.
I have added an IDE HDD and built windows 7 on that so I am now dual booting and both windows share the GW2 BSOD dance.
One thing for sure that I will put my blood on is that the computer only becomes unstable when I start GW2.
14% and 185,927 files remain… Regardless of the fact that I have DL all these files every day since 1st Sept. Why is there no RESUME on the launcher? People say there is but I can assure you there is not! For I have DL over 200k files every single BSOD.
My DAT file is over 14GB and gets time stamped fresh every game launch.
The repair runs and rebuilds or repairs the DAT file etc.
F:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.DAT (14.1 GB (15,156,862,224 bytes))
UAC is off and I run as admin…
I have bought some new RAM different to above (probably can not purchase them now) it should arrive today. I am now looking at a new MOBO. Because I do not what else to do.
I do feel regret now for buying GW2 and I feel like I am going to have to spend more money yet to get my PC stable again for Photograph development :S

Cbuzz, do you really think that the 6 pc’s you have are a clear and accurate representation of ALL pc’s on the planet??? That is just silly. The whole, " I don’t have a problem therefore there can’t be a problem for anyone else" is just dumb. Think before you post.

Did I say I represent every PC on the planet? Stop making stuff up bro. Of course people have issues, it’s there troubleshooting skills that really need some work. Sometimes, especially with new released titles, it may take a bit of tweaking/testing/fixing stuff to get it working 100%. Not just “CLICK” WTF MANG ITS NOT WORKING. YOUR FAULT!!!!

One thing I would take to the bank is if I had OP’s pc in front of me I’d have GW2 up & running in under 5min OR I’d be able to tell him what the issue was.

Absolute horse kitten! No way in hell you would! I place blood on that statement I made!

Your ego is FAIL.

OP is absolutely correct!

This is not his PC because I and thousands of others are having the exact same issue.

I have re installed W7 on two diff hdd now on two different forms. SATA/IDE.

I have done every thing he said. There is nothing left in my PC that can be replaced or tested. I even replaced all cables outside the PC and my router.. I even ran a parallel cable to the PTSN exchange as a bypass and tried that!

GW2.EXE is the problem. There is something very very very dodgy about it!

I bought the game and since then I have bought 2 x HDD, 1 x Optical, 8GB RAM and still the game BSOD. Or hangs Or reboots etc.

I expected better than this from Anet. Having just been shafted by Blizzard with the abortion that Diablo3 is I am feeling very strange about the video games industry now.

It used to be games for gamers built by gamers! Well I fear those days are gone. It is all about money and nothing to do with player enjoyment now.
What a sad shallow world we now live in.
