decent damage at range, but they aren’t as good at it as the Ranger (with their pet)
Fixed the bold for you
The OP and most players forget one very important point.
PETS DONT SCALE WITH GEAR.
This might seem minor right now, but as gear creep continues, pets will continue to slide backwards as a class mechanic. It needs to be addressed at some point for the long term viability of the class, either by compleatly halting gear creep that started with ascended gear, or making pets scale with player gear.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the effects triggered by attacking for most spirits? Since spirits don’t attack, I don’t think they’re wasting effects.
I know spirits and rangers as a whole are rather lack luster, but I think you guys are over estimating anet’s supposed hate/laziness/incompetence.
Spirits dont actually apply the proc itself, they apply a buff that allows the wearer of that buff to proc on attack.
If their buff is limited to 5 allies (and I’m not sure it is), then they do indeed absorb their own buffs, even if they are not attacking to actually trigger them.
I think it needs testing, but perhaps you are overestimating anets understanding of their own game mechanics when it comes to balancing their classes.
Banners don’t have this issue becuase they are treated as objects rather than npc’s.
It is pretty annoying to sit there watching magic users hurl all sorts of sparkly nonsense at people on the walls while watching my hail of arrows, which obviously clear the edge and hit the player provide nothing but a lovely rainbow of “OBSTRUCTED”.
Indeed, this patch, like the last one, is just an exercise in trolling the playerbase into giving up and playing a warrior like were supose to.
No more Gemstore purchases from this sucker.
The title was supposed to be “Ranger pets – Dull, generic, effortless to obtain, and nearly uncontrollable in combat.”*
And I could live with all that if they were actually functional in adding damage/support to a ranger. If they didn’t miss 80% of the time and they provided reliable support abilities most rangers would not care about the pets.
Unfortunately this is not the case.
Instead rangers get their characters nerfed for a non-scaling dot that occasionally hits your target and draws adds, plus an activatable utility skill that again does not scale with the ranger and more times than not is un-responsive.
It might be time to re-do this after some real beta testing… the list has not been update in a month and there are dozens of bugs not listed,
Just to name two; Natures Bounty trait does not increase duration of Troll unguent, nor does the % boon duration buff from concentration or gear… even though Troll unguent is a regen its not treated as such and so its not considered a regen boon by any other traits/procs/gear
Healing spring provides two stacks of regen per tick for pets within the radius.
I’m guessing the OP has abandoned the class like many, anyone wanna compile an updated list ready for further testing post the next patch.
