I’d save up for your precursor instead. If you have only 100g to spend, put your buy order today for 100g. When you get another 50g, drop your order and create a new one for 150g. And keep doing that until your offer is as high as you’re willing to pay.
As long as you’re not too greedy in your price, you’ll eventually get your precursor from the TP. You’ll also remove the temptation for spending your savings on other shinies, by “hiding” it in your offer. Plus, you’ll spend less time worrying about it.
If you converted at the moment I’m typing, you’d need US$50 to get 1,000 gold — that seems like a lot to drop on a single item. On the other hand, people happily spend 10-40 bucks/month on gliders and finishers and so on, so there’s plenty of precedent.
Comparing options:
- Convert US$50 to 1,000 gems tonight. Pro: legendary this weekend; Con: buh buh 50 bucks!
- Put away 15 gold/week to spend on the precursor. Pro: easily afforded via dailies. Con: a year and a quarter! That’s a long wait.
- Aim to reserve 50 gold per week. Pro: only 20 weeks, less than you spent on other things probably. Con: still 20 weeks.
- Convert US$20 tonight and reserve 50 gold per week. Pro: down to 12 weeks and only $US20, less than a monthly subscription to some other game.
tl;dr As Inculpatus cedo says, only you can determine the value of your time. Consider mixing strategies, so your wallet isn’t lighter by that much and you don’t have to wait or grind for too long.
PS this weekend should be a great time to spend cash on gems->gold. The rate is already high and tonight’s WvW server linkages will probably bump it some more.
Thanks, this was really helpful. I might do a mix of what you said. Maybe save up some gold, set a max limit on how much gold I should get per week and if needed buy gold. I find that orders for precursors fulfilled within the 800 – 1000 gold range get fulfilled within a week or two. Anything below 800 will take a while, but it will eventually get fulfilled. Its hard to predict the trading post sometimes, but I find saving up gold much more easier than crafting. There’s a bunch of ways to make gold so it doesn’t feel like a grind.
I find having a legendary is much more worth it than having an ascended weapon. Many people dont realize that ascended weapons have prefixed stats and your stuck with those stats. You can change the stats on legendary weapons at any time while out of combat. The change might not be much, but its still better than being stuck with prefixed stats as well as cosmetic stuff. Is there anyone that has fully completed the collection and crafted the precursor? Roughly how long did it take you?
I’ve been trying to get the precursor for about two years and its been difficult to get one. I find crafting a precursor extremely time consuming. The precursor is the last thing I need to get my legendary weapon, twilight. I’m thinking about buying it with real money via a gem conversion to gold. Its about 1000 gold now. I was just wondering if its worth buying over spending the time to make it
I have a norn so I’ll definitely try it out on him and I’m thinking of wearing it even when its not Halloween season, but it sounds like its a nice outfit to have. Thank you for the feedback.
I was just wondering if the mad king outfit is worth it. I may use cash to get the gems or I may use gold. How does it look in person? Does it get boring to look at after a while or does it still look cool after long use. For those that already have it what would you rate it out of 5. What are the good and bad things about this outfit? Thank you for feedback.
I need some opinions on choosing an outfit for my necromancer. He’s a norn level 80 and the options are 1. CoF mixed with Arah dyed shadow purple and algae. 2. Mad king outfit dyed shadow purple and imperial red. 3. Witch’s outfit dyed shadow purple and imperial red. For those that have the witchs and/or mad king outfits, are the mad king outfit and witch’s outfit worth it and look good in person or do you prefer exotic dungeon armor over them. Just need some feedback to which one looks the best for a necromancer.
Somehow I’m missing obsidian shards. Before I purchased obsidian shards in bulk I had 55 laurels and around 185,000 karma. I should have 253 from the laurels and karma. After purchasing the shards I have 179 shards and i’m missing 74 shards. I checked the inventory on all my characters and I checked my bank theres nothing there. Anyone know where else they could be?
Hello, I am currently on the personal story quest Stealing Light and I am up to the Risen Spider Lord. I can’t seem to kill him , when i’m up to him the NPCs die and he kills me pretty fast. What is an easy way to kill him
Hello, I am looking for an active dungeon only guild. I will participate in the dungeons as well as getting to know the guild members. My server is Henge of Denravi, you could leave me a PM. Thanks!
I’m on through the looking glass in the personal story and i can’t get through to it. I’m on the part to kill the eye of zhaitan, but the only problem is that whatever I kill comes back up within seconds making this part very difficult. My team dies in just a few seconds, is there any way to get through this?
The guild I am currently representing is pretty empty and there aren’t that many people in it. I haven’t interacted with any of the members and I am going to leave it. I’m looking for a guild with many active members. I want to talk with fellow guild members and help them out if needed rather than not interacting at all. I am a level 69 Norn Necromancer in Henge of Denravi, my character’s name is Malfurus. Thank you
I’m not sure if i’m doing something wrong, but i’m in the Tower Down quest where you have to demolish three towers. I’m at the first tower and cleared the area, but Tonn isn’t blowing it up. I dont know how long this glitch has been like this or if its fixed, but having a glitch in a personal story that isn’t fixed yet isn’t right. The personal story is the most important part in the game progress. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I only need at least 3 gold, 1 gold to get the Master training manual and 2 to get the grandmaster manual and an extra just to have in case of repairs. I’m level 40 so i still have another 40 levels to go through I haven’t received a lot of silver but its not that hard to get. Besides receiving it what is a good way to farm it? I know dungeons give gold but its fairly long to go through them. People have started to advertise gold but you have to give real money to get it which is not worth it at all.
I haven’t played any of the betas or anything else before the release of GW2 but was there ever a non elite version of the spirits of wild form? (Bear, Wolf, Raven, Snow Leopard). Before the game even came out I was disappointed that you had to obtain the forms and you could only use it the basic form on all four limbs and the elite would be the form on two legs and two arms. When GW2 came out I did make my main a norn necromancer and when I found out you could get the elite forms at level 30 that gave me more motivation to do whatever it took to get to level 30 then again it was the only form that was given. Not only that but you could get all four forms which I thought you could only get the one based off of the animal you chose in the biography. Whatever they did they did it right.
Tricky is a nice word for this quest lol. When I do die the wind just automatically moves me off the path or if i’m on a platform then I can revive on there. I’m just one of many people who joined Durmound Priory to get through this quest, its really just timing and luck.
I actually wanted to join Darkhaven or Blackgate (cause they sounded cool lol) but my friends all chose Henge of Denravi so its going to be my main server for a while until they all decide to transfer. Speaking of worlds/servers they should start making a ton of new servers, majority of the servers have high population by the time this game reaches 6 months majority will be full.
all of them, although my main a necromancer does some nice healing.
This game is still in its infancy, it isn’t even a month old yet. Take a look at the original Guild Wars, although its old and its days are over it was amazing for its time. ArenaNet gave the game something much different than expansion packs, episodes. The game was literally split up into episodes and to fully enjoy the game the episodes were needed. With Guild Wars 2 they have opened up many possibilities for the series, we might not get episodes but there will definitely be a couple expansion packs. New professions are likely to come, the soldier line could use a new profession to even them out. Even if we don’t get new professions ArenaNet will do whatever it takes to keep this game alive.
I’ve done this one quest over and over and I still can’t pass it. Is there a way I can get through it or is there a way I can make it easier? Basically the first half of the quest is getting to the other side and theres a strong wind that always pushes you off, the sylvari said to watch the flags and stay by the walls but it doesnt do anything i always get pushed off by the wind. Any tips or advice is appreciated, thank you.
I chose the priory on my level 30 necromancer norn, and the dredge chief is insanely difficult. I do my best and do whatever i can but then he kills me with my health below half and his at half and then i restart at a checkpoint, thus putting him back at full health. Is there something i’m missing cause this guy is only 1 level above me and i’ve fought level 32 and 33 enemies with ease.
