Hi Community,
I have a question regarding the Commander’s Compendium, because I intend to buy a commander tag, mostly for organized PvE and my guild.
When buying a compendium do I only buy one color or do I get all four of them?
I read in the articles before the update in August 2014, that each color is sold separately for 300g, but an edit on the guildnews-site states that buying one compendium gives you access to all four colors.
The wiki is quite vague on that subject. The commander page only stating that you can select the color, but the individual sites for the red, blue, yellow and purple commander’s compendium stating that you unlock that color.
So, does anyone bought his Tag after the update in 2014 or recently and knows how it’s handled at the moment?
Thanks for your help

Heart of Thorn mastery system (NEEDS FIXING)!

One of the point of mastery points is to challenge you in various ways across Tyria (and the HoT maps). It’s not to have you sit in one place and grind out MP’s. You’re against grinding achievements (only do them once) yet you’re not against grinding Teq (killing him 5 times for 1 MP)?
you misunderstood, the point of this article is about people who hate achievements and dont give a kitten about them, for some of us we just like killing the same thing over and over again!
If your only purpose in the game is to do the daily bosses, yeah then you could complain that you don’t get enough Mastery Points, but other than that the possibilities to gain MPs in Central Tyria are fairly widespread.
You only need 49 MPs for all Masteries in Central Tyria and you can get a total of 80 MPs, so there is a lot of variety to choose where to get them.
You like bosses? Kill Tequatl, the Karka Queen, and Triple Trouble, each gives you one MP.
You like jumping puzzles? Do them, once all done you get a MP.
Do the personal story, every finished chapter gives a MP.
Like collecting armor or weapons? Bioluminescence armor, ascended crafted armor, fractal weapons, ambrite weapons, each completed collection gives a MP
You like doing Fractals? Each fractal has a “sidequest”, a little task, most of them aren’t really difficult you can do them while doing the fractal. Each one gives a MP.
And that were 51 MPs I just listed, more than enough. Some might be a bit hard or time consuming, others are fairly simple. And they cover the whole spectrum of activities in Tyria.
So what you want is not a wide variety of possibilities to get MPs, this is given. You want to get all MPs for just doing the same stuff over and over again aka grind all MPs with a single task and that is plain and simple not how they are intended to be achieved. See what I did?
You achieve MPs and don’t grind them.
There are a few threads on this forum already, just search for anthology of villians or the chosen.
Their is no official statement, but everything indicates that the recipe is only availibe for the scribe on level 300 and the weaponsmith can only use the sheets of qualitiy paper for the anthology (that’s why the profession is listed)
Sheets of coarse paper is a level 0 scribe recipe and most likely the first iteration of sheets of paper like the different tiers of insignias or dowels in other crafting professions.
And yes it is a huge starting barrier that no other legendary journey has, but you can read more about that in the other threads.
There are now a few threads in this forum about this problem, but so far we haven’t heard anything from the devs, which is really sad.
While others can enjoy the journey to get their precursor, the ones who want the Chosen sit on a huge pile of costs and barriers.
And it seems to be even worse. To level the scribe you need further upgrades of the guildhall to be able to craft decorations, which are a huge part of the scribe’s recipes.
So far I could only get to level 30 (level 300 is needed in order to craft sheets of quality paper), because I’m now missing several items, mostly found in the HoT-maps or from salvaging dyes.
And to make it clear for everyone who says “it’s supposed to be difficult and using every aspect of the game” or “just buy them at the TP”: sheets of quality paper are account bound on acquire, so no we can’t buy them at the TP.
And I really don’t mind that the journey is long, involves every aspect of the game or even that the journey is as expensive as purchasing the precursor at the TP.
What really bothers me is that it is the only journey with such a huge starting barrier. We are not talking about Tier 2 or 3 of the precursor journey, it is the FIRST item we need to acquire to even start the journey. Without the anthology of villians we can’t begin to fill the achievement and that is unfair.
Maybe the later tiers of this journey are easy and simple, maybe the materials needed to craft the different items are significantly lower than with the other precursors. maybe everything evens out in the overall journey, but at the moment nobody but Anet knows since nobody could start to progress.
So please Anet respond to one of these threads, explain if this starting barrier is intended or happened by accident. And if it happened by accident change something: remove the account binding from the sheets of quality paper, make the recipe available for the weaponsmith or for christ’s sake raise the starting barrier for every precursor journey but please even the odds.
Today i saw that the sheets of quality papers can be made with weapon smith, now the question is how.
At least he can use them (that’s what the material itself is saying).
Either he can only use them and they need to be made by a scribe or he can really craft them, then he would need a recipe. Maybe the master scribe sells it.
But I believe the weaponsmith can only use them. The Wiki has a recipe for sheet of coarse paper, a level 0 recipe for the scribe. One of its components is green wood pulp, refined from green wood planks.
When we assume that the scribe works similar to the other crafting disciplines, it is likely that the recipe for sheets of quality paper is automatically learned when reaching level 300 and using elder wood planks instead.
And that is a huge starting barrier since only The Chosen seems to have such a restriction.
I contacted the support because of that matter, but they told me to post my suggestions here on the forums.
So here is the mail I sent to the support:
Dear support and developerteam,
with the new expansion I, and many others, was looking into the new method to acquire the precursors.
I really like the Journey and don’t mind in any way if it takes some time and effort, but the starting barrier for The Chosen is quite high.
As far as I could research it is the only journey to require a specific item to carry around, the anthology of villians.
And that is fine and appropriate for the legend behind this weapon, but the requirement of 13 sheets of quality paper is not.
So far only the scribe and the weaponsmith can use sheets of quality paper and it seems that only the scribe can craft them.
As they are account bound, that means I have to learn the scribe and for that I need a guild with a guild hall, a tavern, a mine, a workshop and the masterscribe unlocked.
That is a really huge barrier to start with, since the amount of materials necessary for guild restoration isn’t easy to get, especially the vials of lineseed-oil.
So while everyone who wants to journey for The Chosen has to wait until his guild has a scribe or search for a guild which has one, all other seekers for precursors can start right of and build up their precursor. Some even finished this journey.
So, could you please check if this huge starting barrier was intended or if it happened by accident?
Maybe you could either make the recipe for sheets of quality paper accessible for the weaponsmith or remove the binding of the sheets, so that guilds with a scribe can sell them on the trading post.
Hopefully and with best regards
a seeker of legends
i hope someone from the devteam sees this and gives us an official statement about that matter.
