So I’m just a casual player ( I got 4 lvl 80 chars over the span of probably 3 years ish ) and my latest lvl 80 is an Ele ( by latest I mean last year lol ) and I like her the most. Now I just came back after a huge break and saw alot has changed and made a build according to the changes ( keep in mind I’m not experienced at all ) and would like for some more experienced players to see if it’s alright or not.
My goals are to be able to do both PvE and WvW stuff in an “okay” manner. In WvW I have my own sort of playstyle where I follow the zerg, but at the same time stray away at some moments and pick off the slackers of the enemy zerg by myself. I enjoy scepter / dagger the most but I do use staff when I’m with my zerg in our own fortress thingies holding off the enemy zerg, but that’s a whole other build I use and will not go into that x). Would just like some oppinions on how to improve this one for the purposes listed above.
Thanks in advance,
-Rod.
PS : I don’t have much gear/gold-wise but I am saving up for celestial gear which seems really appealing, but I read it takes a month to get so I’ll have to wait a long time for it :P. So please keep that into consideration.
Well how about this build : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcMQJAqelUUpEr9ZxkLseNiEShEefiUgZW2nHy1bBhA-zUCB4MBkCAkkGIFqIasVTFRjV3ATjKpKWCyeEFRrGA-w
One I just came up with, seems like it would do decent enough in the hands of a skilled player ? Seems to have alot of both options, power and condi damage, alot of health and enough toughness to outlast alot of enemies in the right hands. Any oppinions ?
Pve and WvW. I mainly WvW but I do want to finally get 100% map completion on the Engi if I get it 80. I came up with a power/condi hybrid build. 24k HP, 1.4k toughness, 1.8K power and 1.5k Condi damage. Would this be any good ? I’ll post the build later, chrome is acting up abit.
So I’m about to get alot of gold from gems and thinking of boosting an Engi up with crafts and such. I currently got an 80 war, thief and mesmer and am looking for something abit tougher now ( war was full zerker ). So was thinking of an Engi because they look cool, got amazing AoE and because a Guardian was boring to me.
I kept looking all over the place and I feel like a toughness/condition damage Engi would be a good choice for me, however I haven’t had too much luck with condition builds in the past and am wondering if this is a good choice or if I should go for a power build instead. The condition builds were on the mes and thief, and they didn’t really do much other than tickle my enemies in comparison to their power build options.
So what I’m asking here is, is a toughness/condition engi good and what type of build should I aim for ? ( traits, skills, etc . . ).
Didn’t know exactly where to put this on the forums, so decided to put it here but feel free to move it to the correct section.
Looking for some other peeps, be it newbies or veteran players, to level up a new char with. I know you get downleveled as a lvl 80, but I feel like making a totally new char would spoil the gameplay abit less, it makes everyone equally as strong. So yeah . . . if you feel like making an alt or if you’re new to the game and don’t feel like playing alone just drop me a friend request ingame or on skype even and we’ll arrange everything from there.
What I’ll be leveling -> Engineer. This doesn’t mean you can’t pick an Engi either ! Just pick whatever you’d like to level.
I’d like to level by just doing PvE stuff and WvWvW stuff every now and then, but NO normal PvP at all since I hate it with a burning passion.
Anyways add me ingame -> Cynic.9327 or on skype -> rancidrode I’m from belgium so my timezone is GMT+2, so looking for EU peeps only. I speak fluent English ofcourse so no need to worry about that.
Thanks in advance,
Rod.
Like the title already gives away, I’ll be making a very indepth tutorial series on how to play this game and what everything means, such as what vistas are, how WvWvW works, class summary for the newbies to help them decide which class to pick, etc . . .
I know this may of been done already but I feel like recording and uploading my own way of explaining this game, it’s always good to have a second look on things for those people that don’t understand the tutorials on other channels. I hope you guys/girls will enjoy and maybe even learn a thing or 2 from these series, and I’ll try and upload 1 part per day. Should be around 10 parts for the whole series seeing as this game has alot of unique features other MMO’s don’t have.
Again, I hope you lot will enjoy and expect more GW2 vids to pop up on my channel !

Greetings ! I sent in a ticket 2 and a half days ago ( when I go to bed soon it’ll be 3 days so I’m posting it now and by the time you read this it should of been 3 days :P ) and not a single reply on my ticket yet.
Number :
#390251
My issue : I can’t mail some of the mats and runes I need from my alt account which was made 17 days ago to my main account, and would like the restrictions to be lifted, or if that’s impossible to have the mats listed in the ticket transfered from my alt account to my main account so I can sell them and buy the new Zodiac Armor for my Thief. Thanks in advance.
Just got my Thief to 80 and been messing around with the builds, and right now this one seems to work amazingly well so I’ll share it. Apologies if it has been posted here before exactly like mine is.
============
Gear :
All Assassin’s gear fitted with Beryl Orbs ( yes, Beryl orb for more vit, crit damage and power, no rune set out there gave me the same satisfying results ).
Trinkets same as above with Exquisite Beryl Jewels.
Assassin’s or Berserker’s dagger / dagger and a shortbow. Sigils on the daggers are superior air on main hand, superior accuracy on offhand and the shortbow has superior fire for even more AoE.
Stats : http://i.imgur.com/R1XQK4S.png
============
Traits :
0/30/30/10/0
I, VI and XI in critical strikes
IV, VI and XI in Shadow Arts
IV in Acrobatics
Reasoning : as much crit/backstab damage but also having the vit and toughness to counter the squishyness of the class. The IV in Acro is mainly for amazing swiftness uptime ( got up to 2+mins swiftness by myself from killing random mobs ). Kill a mob insanely quick with this build and gain swiftness as a bonus to counter the lack of the buff.

============
Utility skills :
Hide in Shadows for your healing skill because of the bonus stealth provided by it.
Shadowstep for both as a closer skill and as a condition cleansing skill.
Shadow Refuge for all kinds of situations. It heals, grants alot of stealth ( duration wise ) and you can use it to cap a skillpoint and bypass hard skillpoints in Orr using this skill.
Assassin’s signet for the passive power and on demand burst towards your backstab !
Elite can be whatever you want. I use Basilisk Venom in WvW but in PvE I use Daggerstorm for the AoE.

Again sorry if this exact build is somewhere out there but I’ve not seen it yet, not in this form anyways. Hoping someone can put it to good use and love to see the tweaks you all make to it !
Hello all, let me start by saying I’m Rod and I’ve played guild wars 2 for a good amount of time now ( lvl 80 warrior, mesmer and 70 guardian ) and now feel like making a thief for several reasons.
So after abit of messing around with the build maker website I came up with this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAoYVlUmiO3cy4E+5Ey2DfqCJKuHGlT1UeF+KA-jQyAYOBRiCAJCiKAmILiGbxtIasqFMVJRUt7oIa1RBERA-e
It uses the dagger/dagger and shortbow combo which I seem to like most out of all the weapons available for a thief, and is focused on staying in stealth as long as possible, true assassin style-ish xD.
I was just wondering if this would be a viable build, I know it’s not the toughest but I have made my mesmer full zerker aswell and I did absolutely fine on her, infact I never seem to really die on her unless I don’t pay attention and a zerg sneaks up from behind me and even then I sometimes escape. So having said that I don’t mind and even prefer the more glassy cannon builds like the one above I came up with, just need to know if it’s viable or not.
One thing that’s bothering me is the lack of Shadow Refuge, but I don’t want to give up any of the 3 utilities or any of my runes to try and replace the 25% movement signet. Any advice ?
Last offtopic question. Which armor / weapon skins would look best on a human rogue ? I got the holographic wings to go with her ( I LOVE them ), but need some cheap ( if possible ) skins to go with her armor and daggers. Armor for me would be nescessary because the crafted emblazoned armor looks like ******* xD.
Thanks for the replies in advance,
-Rod.
So new to the mesmer class, made one because I just recently got my warrior to 80 for PvE, and now want something for WvW. I messed around abit and made this build ;
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAR8flwzKq3UTmGb9ICKFan3RSRr9alewbX4sB
Explenation :
For weapons I went with greatsword to deal ranged damage ( don’t like staff ), and if enemies get too close I got my sword/torch combo for more close combat damage. The reason I picked a torch is because I LOVE the stealth 4 skill, and with the traits I’ve chosen it’s down to a 24 second cooldown, making it an actual 21 second cooldown when your stealth actually ends.
Traits :
20 domination : I’ve chosen Mind Wreck, simply because I’d like to nuke down foes quicker. Could take the cripple here, but I prefer damage over CC.
Next is Cleaning Conflagration. This recharges my stealth skill 4 on my torch and my phantasmal mage skill 5 even faster ( phantasmal mage gets a 40% recharg rate with another one of our traits ! ). + It cures us of conditions as a bonus ! Always nice.
30 Dueling : Blade training to recharge our sword skills faster ( again a 40% recharge rate on our skill 3 ! ). Also gives us 50 precision as a bonus.
Deceptive Evasion creates clones when we dodge, which IMO is one of the best traits you could have as a mesmer. Dodge and stealth with the torch skill is basically the same as “Decoy”.
Desperate Decoy last, cloaking us at 25% health. This is just a last resort kinda trait I picked, just for those “WTF” moments when you’re surrounded. Could potentially save your life paired with blink and a torch stealth throw in right after the stealth ends.
20 Illusions : One thing to notice is the minor trait you get after you spend 5 points. Illusion summoning skills recharge 20% faster. This is awesome ! for a minor trait.
Picked Precise Wreck here for a bigger damage nuke output. Nothing else to say about it.
Phantasmal haste last, recharging our phantasms even faster !
Skills :
Healing : Ether Feast. I picked this one because it has the most base heal, and an additional heal per illusion.
Utility 1 : Decoy. Used this because it replaces you with a clone, and gives you stealth. I find myself being tricked by this in WvW quite alot, if your not paying 100% attention it’s hard to notice someone used this skill.
Utility 2 : Mirror images. Picked this for an extra 2 clones, always comes in handy when your fighting someone in WvW, confusing the poor little guy ^^ .
Utility 3 : Blink. Used this to get out of tricky situations. Or even to get closer to your foe to get the first blow or to finish them off. Will be replaced with Portal Entre depending on the situation.
Elite skill : Mass Stealth. Lowest cooldown of the 3 elite skills and possibly the most usefull in WvW. It’s an extra stealth for you, and if your in a well organized group you could stealth your team and get in for a well aimed surprise attack.
And last but not least, for gear I would simply pick berserker on everything. This build I made would focus on damage more than anything, and seeing as it’s a light armor class I don’t see the point in stacking toughness/vit. Skilled mesmers will have so much survivablity already using their illusions, stealth, teleport, etc …
Hope to get some feedback on this build (: I don’t look on the internet for a build because I think it takes the fun away of coming up with something of your own. So appologies if this build is somewhere out there, I just didn’t look for any.
Also, I believe this build will be pretty good in PvE aswell, though I mainly made it for WvW in mind. Anyways hoping to get some feedback,
~Cynic.
Ty for the input. However I’d still go with my first initial build. Reason ;
Banner is on a long cooldown and you’d have to move it around all the time if you’re moving around alot. I could see this becoming a viable option though in places I know I’m gonna stay put.
The traits however I don’t really like your idea. I got permanent might from “For great justice” and the elite skill signet this way, and getting rid of 100 toughness for even more might doesn’t seem worth it to me. I will mess around with it and see if it’s good but I’m thinking I’d rather have an extra 100 toughness to be more durable than have more damage, the crits will get all the damage I need (:
So I’m still fairly new to the game only got it for a week and half and I got this warrior build in mind, which would more focus on crits but still have enough toughness and durablity to tank. Here’s the general idea ;
- Heal skill : Healing Signet
- Utility skills : For great justice, Signet of Might, Signet of Fury
- Elite skill : Signet ( forgot name lol )
Traits :
20 strength
10 arms
20 defence
0 tactics
20 discipline
Explenation :
Strength tree for power obviously – would choose the damage bonus based on adrenaline level, and the GS attacks deal 10% more damage one.
Arms for precision and would take the 40 precision for each unused signet.
Defence for the passive health regen based on adrenaline level, and would take 200 toughness while stunned crippled etc, and the gain adrenaline when hit one.
Discipline for the 20% reduced signet cooldown, and crit chance based on adrenaline level.
This would give me permanent might and fury ( +20% crit ) by using “For great Justice” and the elite skill signet. They would recharge faster than I would lose my fury and might buffs, allowing me to recast them and get them again !
For gear I’d go for power/toughness/healing power or power/tougness/vitality and use rune of the eagle. And ofcourse use a sigil of perception for even more precision or sigil of accuracy ( probs accuracy I don’t like having to kill 25 mobs to gain the full effect ).
Any thoughts on this build, how well it would do ?
-Cynic
In the swamp areas with poisoned water, you can repeatedly jump to avoid losing HP. You can sometimes even avoid losing any HP at all this way.
I wouldn’t see why not. You put the same amount of time and effort into it, as if you would do it daily with only 1 character. The only difference is that you get your skins faster than as if you were to do it daily. If this was not allowed, they would make baubles soulbound & unable to put in the bank.
I already got 2 skins myself, and the box only has been out a couple days.
Haven’t seen a topic like this yet so I thought I should start one.
I know the SAB can be quite difficult and even frustrating for some people who are abit less experienced with parkour in games ( Jumping puzzles ), and maybe some of those people never made it past a certain point ( especially world 2, zone 1 can be a real pain ! ).
That’s where this topic comes in ! If anyone who’s stuck at a certain part would want some help, they could post it here and other people could spare abit of their time to help out. Here’s how it would go ;
Need help ? Leave a message here with the following things ;
- Server :
- World and Zone you need help with :
- Times you’re usually online :
- Character name :
- Additional info :
People who then want to help can contact them ingame, and go in SAB togheter. The person who is helping just goes on ahead and gets the checkpoints for the other person, which have to kill themselves to respawn at that checkpoint. I hope this will help those who want to get to the temporary end of SAB but can’t get there themselves.

Don’t know if this has been posted anywhere before but here’s a little guide on how to easily beat the toadboss. All you need is some awareness and good reflexes.
Attacks ;
1) He’ll punch the ground left, right or in the middle and make waves of swamp water rise to hit you.
2) He’ll use his tongue to swipe the whole entire area.
How to avoid these attacks ;
1) He’ll look left if he’s going to hit the left side of the area, and will look right if he’s going to hit the right side. If he looks left, make your way as quickly as possible to the right lilly pad, and vice versa.
2) If he’s looking down, that means he’s going to hit the middle. To avoid this one, simply back up and jump on the leafs and make a circle going all the way back to the lillypads. Make sure you do a big enough cirlce so the waves won’t hit you, the middle attack will send 2 waves out, while the left or right side attacks only send 1 wave.
3) If he’s opened his mouth, and you missed your oppertunity to throw in a shard, he will make a tongue swipe. To avoid this attack simply stand on one end of the lillypad and wait for him to start his tongue swipe attack, then roll INTO his tongue to avoid it ( stand on the left side of the middle lillypad, and roll to the right side into his tongue when he’s swiping the area ). He’ll always go from the right to the left side with this attack.
How to actually beat him ? ;
1) Keep hitting his crystal pendant. It’ll drop shards eventually which you can pick up. NOTE !!! : You CAN hit the pendant during his “open mouth” phase however it will never drop a shard piece ! Don’t waste your time hitting it, but set yourself up to avoid his attack. You can only drop a shard piece during his left/right and middle wave attacks, the best way is to hit the pendant a couple times before dodging his attacks.
2) When he’s looking both to the left and right ( as if he’s about to cross the road ) then he’ll open his mouth. Be ready to press your 1 skill to throw the shard into his mouth. He’ll get knocked down and this is your chance ! Hit him with everything you got !
Tip : Bombs do alot of damage against him in this phase. If you got some spare ones be sure to save them for this boss !
