That, THAT. As a Norn Warrior and Pact Commander I felt my honor smashed by letting pass that insult.
I think it’s been made blatantly clear that the agency of NPCs is more important than that of players in Living World. You simply exist to be a passive observer in the events you’re witnessing, destined to never get any credit for all the leg work you do, preordained to be disrespected by every NPC you meet and cursed to never actually have an impact on the outcome.
There’s a lot that bothers me about Queen Jennah. I just did the first part of Head of the Snake, and it seemed normal enough until she suspended the powers of her own ministry under the guise of protection and demonstrated she was powerful enough to erect a dome barrier capable of fending off siege fire. In addition to that, she was able to make people die simply by pointing at them and erect additional powerful barriers while still maintaining the previously mentioned dome.
It was previously established that she is an exceptionally powerful mesmer, so much so that she is capable of maintaining a psychic link with Logan over massive distances. In the Ogre Revolt, it’s stated she was powerful enough to subdue an entire crowd of humans and charr all at once, and even managed to create an illusion so convincing that she was able to trick the Branded themselves into believing all the combatants had been converted into Branded too. It mentions that she also maintains an exceptionally high amount of approval among her own subjects.
The point I am trying to make is that these events seem to paint a disturbing picture of the queen. Not only is she capable of suspending the authority of her own government when she feels that it is necessary, but being able to manipulate the thoughts and perceptions of large crowds of people are not beyond her either. It would explain the diehard loyalty she has among the peasantry, but one of the treacherous ministers was capable of using mesmer magic too. The queen does not strike me as a particularly charismatic personality, and her rulership seems to be rife with in-fighting among the ministers, bandits which conduct their operations with impunity and hordes of centaurs which are constantly attacking human settlements across Kryta.
Am I the only one who feels that all of these doesn’t seem to add up to the idea of her being a benevolent and fair ruler? She is the be-all and end-all authority in Krytan politics and has the power to keep her population compliant through means which would not be easily detected or noticed.
I’m still curious as to where the part about him only using humans as pawns came from. The article doesn’t mention where it gets its information from.
It is actually not out of character as Balthazar is well known to be the most Cruel of the six gods with some Humans calling him the “God of Mass Murder”
I need a link or source.
It’s one of OUR gods. We just can’t kill our god who has been a blessing for the humans for over 250 years and even more! (GW1~ years aswell)
You mean, a god who has not been anything, let alone a blessing, for the past 250 years? The Six were gone, remember. Human characters on Tyria do not have a special reason to worship them. Yeah, they’ve been around some time ago. But they no longer are. Now all of a sudden one of them appears under very suspicious circumstances. He destroyed a bloodstone, lied to your face and seems intent to do something you have every reason to believe would end up as a planetary-scale disaster. And you want to just bow and follow in blind faith?
I question the choice of Balthazar for the role, but your line of attack simply doesn’t hold.
The six distanced themselves from humanity. They didn’t abandon them. All of the human racial abilities are blessings from the six gods, and they provide every time. Hell, you don’t even need to be human to get their favour. Orrian dragon zombies could invoke the power of the Six and they would answer them every time. There is a desecrated shrine to Balthazar in Old Ascalon that Grawl worship, and Balthazar grants his blessing to them too. Going back as far as Guild Wars 1, there were non-human characters which received the blessing of the gods too. So yes, humans do have a special reason to worship the Six.
Balthazar’s behaviour also doesn’t make any sense. For hundreds of years, he dished out favours and blessings to literally anyone who worshipped him or called for his help, and now he acts like he doesn’t care about Tyrians at all, let alone humans? He’s also a God of War and Valour. This kind of sneaky rubbish is ill fitting for his character. What would have actually happened is he would have marched into Divinity’s Reach, rallied people to his cause and gone to exterminate some charr.
But hey, no one on the writing team has any respect for previously established lore, so Balthazar becoming a saturday morning cartoon villain is only the beginning.
An eccentric and burly male Norn whose sanity is questionable. He recognises his own limitations and does his best to support the commander in their endeavours. He’s seen a lot of things, some things which he would rather forget, but he knows that unpleasant (and eldritch) knowledge is a part of everyday life. A lot of people believe that his bravado is his own way of trying to cope with the unspeakable things he has learned throughout his travels.
One thing which I think is lacking in the story is a stoic male character of some sort. A proper adventurer and seasoned veteran. Canach and Rytlock are too busy brooding and Braham’s defining trait is his ability to whine. It would be nice to have someone who’s reliable, but isn’t trying to steal the spotlight from the protagonist.
I’m completely indifferent to all of the characters and what they have to say
What do you play an MMO for then, if not for the story?
I only find this annoying when I’m doing the story for the 3rd or 4th time.
It’s possible to enjoy a game’s mechanics without being invested in the story or world building, or to participate in Living World for the rewards and not be interested in the actual story part.
I guess I’m not going to bother with Living Story then.
One of the things which makes the Living World content such a chore to do is the complete absence of dialogue skipping. This has been the norm since Living World started, and quite frankly, I’m a little tired of it. I’m completely indifferent to all of the characters and what they have to say, and yet I have to stand around and waste several minutes at a time to let them slowly finish what they want to say.
Then a group of enemies rush in, I kill them promptly and then have to spend several more listening to more dialogue I don’t care about. Even if someone is invested into the story and characters, if they do the same Living Story segment multiple times across different characters, it’s going to get tedious for them too.
So, can we please get an option just to skip the dialogue? It would make the whole experience so much more bearable.
I’m a pve player and recently converted into pvp, if pve doesn’t teach you how build variety/diversity is while zoning into higher level area
So basically, you bumbled into this pvp season, are playing with low level players, haven’t had a chance to experience just how stale the meta is and you think that because there’s no build variety in PvE that there’s no point in addressing the issue?
Advance players and their first world problem is killing me.
Isn’t your beef with this a first world issue itself?
Delete elite specs and watch diversity open up again.
…. the irony.
I’d be okay with this.
Why would you play a build that makes you win less than when you play a meta build? Pretty much my mindset when playing FA ele.
That’s the point. The fact that the game is at this point is awful. That’s why there needs to be more done to change that.
In between the animalistic screeching of people ordering their teams around when they’re losing, the trolling and the lack of any kind of decent team matching, the thing which stands out most to me is just how lacking in variety the meta is.
Every class has one build they can play. Two if you’re a Dragonhunter. It’s moving onto the second season and very little has been done to address the lack of build diversity in the format. Even for a system as limited as GW2’s, surely there could be more than one competitive option available to players.
I’m getting really sick of seeing the same builds over and over again while nothing is done to actually change anything. Surely we can have some sort of overhaul update and have some sort of variety added?
DH is probably the most balanced, since the buffs that made it go from “get out, you’re dragging us down” to “OP” were all to core guardian.
The problem with their design philosophy regarding elite specs is that any alternations they make to core specs can also make elite specs stronger. So trying to make a regular Guardian as strong as a Dragonhunter just isn’t going to work out.
Right now, Honor is probably the most ridiculous line Guardians have. For a bare minimum investment into healing power, you can gain obscene amounts of sustain without having to sacrifice utility slots. So, you can still use your traps, be ridiculously hard to kill and completely ruin anyone who would dare step anywhere near a point.
And no, I don’t think Wings of Resolve > Shield of Courage > Renewed Focus > Shield of Courage > Wings of Resolve is balanced in the slightest. Might as well prepare myself for a bunch of passive aggressive replies now.
I guess healing on aegis removal and cleansing on block (on a cd) can be considered OP to people who can’t be bothered to check the boons on their targets before they release their bursts.
Yeah, a one second cooldown. Combine that with being able to crack a Shield of Courage multiple times.
Yea i get what you mean. Hunters fort actually makes an aegis based build functional and viable.
The scandal
Makes it OP*
Is this the level of arguing throughout the entirety of this forum? Passive aggressive one liners which don’t actually address any arguments at all?
Well, we’re already complaining about aegis and blocks and traits that have been in the game since 2013, might as well add wards to wambulance too.
Shield of Courage has been in the game since 2015, last I checked. The situation is completely different to how it was three years ago. The original Guardian traits were designed around Virtues being one off effects which weren’t particularly strong. With the new Dragonhunter Virtues, however, things like Renewed Focus grant far more tankiness than they have any right to. Hell, that trait which recharges my Shield of Courage when I revive or rally is just gravy.
That’s another thing that makes thfs super salty about guards. Guards are one of the few classes that can put a lid on all that evade spamming thanks to wards.
I legitimately wonder if you’re capable of critical thinking at all. I’m playing a Dragonhunter and I know for sure that it’s unfair. Everyone else knows this too.
It basically boils down to two major problems. Most classes don’t have the utilities needed to deal with the massive amounts of blocking, boons, healing and condition removal that Dragonhunters have. The ones that do get face melted by a full ‘zerker Dragonhunter that’s hiding behind their Shield of Courage because they don’t have to sacrifice damage for tankiness in this meta. You can’t run away either because it would mean crossing the Test of Faith ring.
Obviously, I can’t say this applies to every single battle ever and the Dragonhunter is always going to win, but it’s always going to be tilted heavily in the Dragonhunter’s favour. It’s not a matter of ‘getting good’ when there isn’t any way of dealing with their utility kit for most classes. In the case of Engineers and Druids, the only way they win is by outlasting Dragonhunters, which most classes can’t do right now.

>3 months in between balance updates
Today, I played a game where there were three bunker mesmers and a tempest. I’m going to admit that playing a condition Necro is pretty OP, but I literally could do nothing in this game. It was legitimately one of the most miserable experiences I have ever had in-game.
It doesn’t require three months of observation to understand what’s wrong with this meta. You keep trying to push this non-existent esports scene when PvP’s balance is an awful joke. I paid nearly 100 AUD, on top of what I paid for the base game, to experience this hilariously bleak meta.
I’m mad. I’m done. I can’t wait until another MMO turns up and blows this game and its developers out of the water. You deserve it.
It would be nice to get something that isn’t a boring slice of characters standing still and talking for ten minutes while you impatiently wait for them to finish. How about more skills (don’t say it’s so they can balance what they have, it’s been months since a substanial balance patch)? More traits? Balance patches? Dungeons? WvW content? PvP content? New armour sets that aren’t immediately put behind a paywall or require absurd amounts of grinding? Please, just no more dialogue blocks about characters who steal the spotlight from the person who is actually meant to be the hero of the story, the player.
Hello friends. It is I, the Great Unseeable! As the propaganda minister for the Empire, I have decided that recruitment drives must be made one of our top priorities.
Now then, let me make this abundantly clear. I am a no-nonsense propaganda minister and I’m sure you want me to get to the point!
The point is that all of these outposts who are dying to get their hands on you are working with the molemen. They’re already a lost cause and you will be drawn into a conspiracy that goes far deeper than you’ll ever know. They will promise you the world, siege equipment, monetary compensation, but all of that is for naught. We fine men of gallantry offer something far better than that. We offer you a cause! Something to instill purpose and to ignite the fury in your heart! No earthly wealth can compare to duty and gallantry, my friends!
Or, if you choose not to join with the Empire, you will be executed for conspiring with the molemen. You already know the right choice to make, soon-to-be-citzen!
Join the Empire’s outpost of Borlis Pass and fight for gallantry and for a proper cause! Care not for these empty promises and molemen lies! I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield, gentlemen!
- Your friendly Empire Propaganda Minister, The Great Unseeable
Hello there. This is something I just wrote up. I figured I’d share it and see what people think.
The Inquest, for all of its cruelty, complete disregard for collateral damage and unrestricted research, have managed to shoal up some fascinating information on Draconic energies and the nature of Dragon corruption within the Crucible of Eternity. I am not suggesting that we follow in their footsteps, but the data that was produced by their findings should be kept. I would like to expand further on their research, albeit in a much safer, controlled way, and with willing test subjects. If we were to master Dragon corruption, think of the benefits it could grant us! From what I have observed, Dragon corruption functions in this manner.
Dragon corruption acts as a vector for Draconic energy, or it self-propagates its own energy source. Dragon energy further fuels dragon corruption, causing it to spread, and thus dragon corruption and dragon energy fuel one another in an infinite, ever-increasing cycle.
Another observation to be made is that the corruption lingers after a dragon’s death. Zhaitan is long dead, but his minions are still very active. If the only thing that is fuelling his minions is Draconic energy then the corruption itself must be a source of said energy.
The next questions we can ask are these: Why would we need to use Draconic energy? What are the benefits as opposed to the risks involved?
First and foremost are the obvious effects on normal biology. We have observed that Dragon minions become physically and magically enhanced, negating bodily needs such as the need to eat, to sleep and in the case of Zhaitan’s minions, the need to breathe. Second, I offer my observations on the materials that dragon corruption creates. These materials would be excellent for constructing various devices from, given proper research. I am sure you have observed the sheer resilient of dragon minions and the strange constructs that rise from their corruption. Third, we could also control the Dragon’s own minions if we discover how they are linked to the Dragon in question. Would it not be deliciously ironic to kill a dragon with its own subordinates?
I understand the risks involved in handling such energies and I will be taking all of the precautions I possibly can in order to conduct my research. In the event of a total containment failure, I will be enacting the Absolution Protocol, a failsafe of my own design. This would ensure the complete annihilation of the research station in question, and the transfer of the research data into a remote outpost several kilometres away from the station. I will also allow for supervisors from each college to watch over our proceedings and give them the power to shut down research if it becomes too dangerous.
I understand that not even Kudu could not escape dragon corruption, falling victim to it some time before the attack on the Crucible of Eternity. Before we conduct our research, we will be first finishing studies into effectively containing draconic energy and keeping it in an inert state. Once we have removed the dangers, only then shall we proceed. All I ask for is your approval. Other researchers are going to start studying these energies eventually. We are a curious people and no amount of discouragement will stop this. If we cannot stop it, the least we can do is control it. I expect an answer soon and I hope it will be favourable.

Hey there. I’ve enjoyed Guild Wars 2 as a whole (500+ hours can’t be wrong), but I’ve gotten to the point where I’m quite bored of the limited skill sets provided by weapons. Always the same five skills, no way to really make it that much different to what every other person using the same weapon is doing.
So, I am proposing a simple skill system for weapons. Make it just like the utility skill slots, and have specific skills for each slot in question. This would enable people to use their weapons in different ways, adjusting them to suit their own playstyle. Let’s say that for each weapon skill slot, there are two unique skills per slot. This enables 252 unique weapon skill combinations for each and every weapon, if my maths is correct.
Your thoughts?
Thank you for your answer. The wiki stated that you could find level 80 destroyers there, which drop Destroyer Lodestones. I’m a little short on cash and was hoping to strike it lucky. It seems that I can only obtain them from Destroyers in Mount Maelstrom or in Sorrow’s Embrace.
Hey guys. I’m currently attempting to find a location known as Molevekian Delve. I’ve tried to do google searches to learn where this place might be, but I’ve been unable to find any information at all, nor do I know where I might start searching in the world. Does anyone know where I might find it?
