I don’t know what this “cookie cutter” trap build is but I prefer to play with more conditions and use the MM tree instead of Skirmishing.
I use axe/torch and sword/dagger with sigils of corruption.
Undead runes and carrion amulet.
Utilities are Sharpening stone, QZ, and SoS traited with Signet of the Beastmaster.
Traits are 30/5/30/0/5
For pets I use dual birds
Basically the idea is to apply burning as much as possible and stand in fire field so melee takes damage when they are close to you and dodge around and use evades from sword/dagger while bird and fire does dmg.
Rangers contribute vulnerability, up to 20 stacks when properly traited. I think this gets overlooked a lot and is definitely underused.
I almost never see people running birds in dungeons. Is this just me?
If everyone complains about pets dying, then use a pet that will actually do a bit of damage before it dies…the swiftness will help out your melee as well.
I also think more Rangers need to be in melee range and use GS or Sword more often because it’s a pain to run back 900-1200 yds to rez someone especially at TA wurms and COE Subject Alpha

I’m finding Ranger does pretty good in spvp and tpvp.
I’m running a 30/5/30/0/5
axe/torch + sword/dagger
carrion amulet and undead armor.
The only condition removal I use is Emphatic Bond and then signet of the wild and RAO for stability.
sword/dagger is really good for evasion and then I use signet of stone as well for the invulnerability.
basically just stack burning + bleeding and evade.

I can’t seem to join.
I spec my Ranger for condition damage mainly using axe/torch with Carrion amulet.
My other weapon set is sword/warhorn. The only way I (personally) can do anything with shortbow is by going almost glass cannon.
The reason I like torch if mainly for helping my team take out bunkers which seem to always be a problem. The Aoe burning you can get with axe 1 and bonfire is usually pretty decent too.
That’s just my take on the Ranger though, I still see most people running the shortbow though which is probably better 1v1 but I cant seem to find a build that works for me with it.
The Ranger didn’t get any updates this patch but there’s a dev post on the forum assuring us Rangers will be getting some significant updates and that they are coming soon.

For pvp I’m using axe/torch and sword/warhorn. Mainly a condition damage build. Many people seem to forget that bleeds aren’t the only condition we have available and with the carrion amulet you can do a ton of burning damage.
Ok, First of all AOE Rez is an excellent ability and the passive effects of the Nature spirit are also very good.
The Spirits yeah will die very quickly in a dungeon maybe but they live plenty long for you to use their activated ability and then have them die and then trigger their activated ability again in spvp.
If you compare the other spirits to the traps then yeah they may fall a bit short but they are a fine replacement considering how powerful the Nature Spirit is.
With my spirit build I run the Frost Spirit and the Sun Spirit along with Spirit of Nature.
Combine the Spirits with Signet of renewal and Healing Spring and you can have an extremely effective support build.
I think you guys are missing the point of his spirit build. He doesn’t care if the spirits die. He has spec’d so that when the spirits die they trigger their activated abilities which is what he is counting on.
