Weird. Can’t edit. Anyhow, sorry for triple post. I wouldn’t work for the Empire, and I’m not sorry for those that did that were in the Death Star.

Anet is no Empire, but people get to feel and emote. And, IF the company you work for is doing things you don’t approve of…. quit. I have… many times in the past…

I’m happy they blew up the death star, and all the innocent contractors and their families.

Then again, I’m an armchair psychopathic nihilist, and not afraid of any negative labels meant to shame, said above.

Draw any parallels between the video, and the situation. Me? I’m with the roofer that shows up around 2:50…

What that says about me… you’d be correct…

It’s weird. All these people, tough guys, saying they love to “drink the tears” i.e. are happy other people are upset. Are HAPPY someone is upset. It passes moderation.

I make one joke about Dexter, another about weapon use, and I go “Haha. I meant the cartoon.” and “So when are we going to go paintball?” And THAT is too far.

One sided.

Weird.

but being that you dont eat anything but club sandwiches, should you be able to get a special restaurant master tailored suit, being that you have not mastered restaurants? I mean you may like the suit, but if you only want to eat club sandwiches, you are not really a master of all restaurants.

legendary has been built as a semi long term achievement that shows you have taken part in all facets of the game, exploration, pve, pvp, and player versus money. (i think it may be too heavy on the player versus money aspect)

Fair enough, which is why I have ZERO problems with not having a Legendary, despite that the mace precursor (lucked out on a Skritt Burglar, oh, a year ago? ish?) is sitting in my bank, just in case, one day, they change the requisites.

What you said is totally fair and correct. I don’t do the requisites, I don’t get the rewards. (Sidebar = I hate dungeons too. I haven’t done one of them. I do LOVE puttering in the world, doing events, doing zerg like “press 1 and try not to die” world events, doing easy crafting and so on.)

I do, however, have a huge problem with the “come in the water’s fine” insistence on some people (not you, but some) to “you gotta try WvW”; or worse, the ones that demean / insult because I (and others) don’t. You know, the “carebear” posts, and so on.

To reiterate = you are totally right. I don’t deserve a Legendary. I do take issue with some posters board attacks, doubly so because my natural board response and posts would get me insta-banned or worse, but that’s a “me” thing, not a “you” think if that makes sense. I just hate they stay “just inside the line” of board post antagonism, when I SO would cross it to the point Dexter would blanch, but, again, I have issues, hehe.

(Second sidebar = sorry if I’m unclear, English is second language)

Could all of you WvW players please stop requesting us to go in there AGAIN?
We have tried already and know that we don´t like it….
Just imagine how the ordinary WvWer would feel if he would be constantly asked to please go back into PvE, he could possibly enjoy it…

shakes head and walks away in disbelief

As much as I want to blame the WvW people, I don’t think it’s a WvW issue. It’s a people issue.

I’ve had a club sandwich for my restaurant meals, almost every time I’ve gone out. Yet, almost every time, I hear “Try the fish. Try the pasta. Try… Try… Try…” They know I don’t change, but it bothers them, and they won’t leave me alone. Then, once that moment is passed (and I eat my club sandwich), the evening goes back to normal.

But it happens… every… single… time…

Some people cannot stand or fathom people like me that do not want to “try something new” and they can be quite aggressive in “c’mon, try it.” even though it’s none of their business. I don’t know why. Offends them? Bothers them? They like to stir up trouble? Don’t know, ask them.

Bottom line = we will hear “Try the WvW / PvP.” until the end of time. THEY won’t get it that I’ll never play WvW / PvP. And, apparently, some (many?) others agree with me. But “they” will never accept that.

Yeah, force me in to WvW and I may start trying to “play the way I want”.
I think I may want to walk golems off the cliff just to see if they can fly, or maybe see how much supplies I can use by building siege equipment as far behind friendly lines as possible (keeps them safe that way). The ways I can “play the way I want” seem almost endless. ;-)

You are my new hero ShiningSquirrel. Doubly so for your sig. And I thought I was “gaming the game” by doing World Completion with no armour i.e. no repair costs.

The worst I’ve ever done was when I’d had enough of “cry moar carebear!” posts and I got a bunch of people to roleplay in the WvW maps. I’m sorry, did that increase their queue times? Totally unintentional. Good luck on them trying to thought police that with /report.

Your ideas have far more class, ShiningSquirrel, well done.

I had a really similar MMO history. I quit five games in less than two years because of that “endgame” thing that left me with nothing to do as soon as my characters reached max level (I don’t raid).

The irony is that I don’t think people like us are actually a niche audience. We’re only treated that way by MMO devs who seem to be prone to listen to the loudest voice – which tends to be the hardcore crowd. I think the strategy used by the industry was something like “Let’s appease the 10% hardcore players. The casuals are a majority, but they never seem to complain anyway despite no MMO has ever catered to them.” Or so. Thankfully I noticed a change as in 2012 the ‘casuals’ seem to be more vocal, too. Which is why we ended up with 145+ pages of feedback opposing the hostile takeover of this game by a certain segment of the hardcore players who can’t seem to accept even ONE MMO being made for people like us.

You might be right. I just don’t have the figures to prove or disprove it. And, gaming companies are unlikely to release their figures. If a company blatantly said “OUR game is for casual/hardcore/[insert type here] players”, that means that anyone that isn’t the target market won’t buy it, and that’s one less sale. It’s in their best interest to keep things vague, and everyone buying.

I will admit, that gear treadmills are likely easy to make, dev cost wise, which is why it’s done so often. Add stats to weapon. Add stats to mob. Put on new skins. Add a new map. Voila. New tier.

Niche content, as I call it, whether Story (like SWTOR), or pick your game, costs a lot of time and money. More than gear treadmills. And money is where the buck stops. I need to find a small company, with NO parent company, fully / majority owned by ONE CEO-vision maker…making a niche game… Not likely, heh…

The problem with me being a niche person when it comes to entertainment is that the few things that are actually niche often becomes cancelled or mainstreamed.

This is why I’m worried about the future of GW2. I’m worried that future development time will go in large part to new tiers of gear. Here is my recent gaming history.

City of Heroes = Few raids. All small groups. Top end drops from trash mobs. Wow. That’s gotta be niche. Awesome. Wait? What? The new focus is on Incarnate content i.e. raids? You mean, like every other mainstream MMO? Darn. CoH is no longer niche. /quit.

Star Wars, The Old Republic = Story based MMO. Wow. Tons of cutscenes in an MMO? That’s gotta be niche. I love that. Awesome. Wait? What? The new focus is on group content, minimal cutscenes and gear grind. You mean, like every other mainstream MMO? Darn. SWTOR is no longer niche. /quit.

Now, I’m in Guild Wars 2. = No Grind MMO. Level playing field? What? That’s gotta be niche.

Now I’m HOPING history doesn’t repeat itself. Maybe I just have bad luck. But it feels (you know… emotions, those things some of you logical facts only people may have forgotten… hehe) like it’s happening again. So, right or wrong, I’m scared and getting upset. You know, emotional. You guys are logical. I’m sure you can look it up…

And don’t get me started on TV / Movie niche vs mainstream, hehe…

I’m wondering if this is a new generation of gamer or just a fundamental shift in the way games have developed over time.

I’m not sure. But, as a guy pushing 50, I had zero interest in many of the games of the 80s and 90s for the exact reason = the difficulty. They were just too hard for me. I tried them for hours, failed, and came to the realization that I’m just not that good a player, and left it at that.

I’ve never liked Risk vs Reward or Skill vs Reward because I wasn’t skilful. Those games aren’t bad, they just aren’t for me. When Time vs Reward games started popping up, I loved it. I had no skill, but Time I had.

For most new single player games, I struggle at the Easiest setting, and I consider it an achievement to finish the game on Easy. That’s why I tend not to like MMOs. Actually every single one of them, (EQ, CoH, SWTOR, GW2), I’ve been dragged kicking and screaming by my wife and/or best friend.

I’ve learned that the best way to enjoy them, at least for me, is to set my own goals, and ignore what “should” be done. Yeah I’m one of those that never dodge (by the time I see the mob power-up, and double tap the arrow key, I’m already hit, so I might as well shooting… that’s right, I’m a Key-1-spammer).

So when it came to jumping the clock tower… ha! No way. I Chevy Chase’d it (cf Grand Canyon). Saw it. Jumped. Couldn’t get past the starting staircase part. Then I left. I have problems with most L40+ Vistas, so this was just a “I saw it” part.

Thing is, especially in an MMO, I’m not the target market, and that’s fine with me. I read the boards of all the above MMO and the “lack of content” “too easy” complaints are pretty common. So I’m glad there’s an OMG hard jumping puzzle, just like I’m glad there’s PVP (I’d be skeet if I tried) or other activities I’ll never do.

But, to finish off with a return to Grim’s post, if things went back to the 80s-90s gameplay difficulty, that’d be fine, but I wouldn’t play the games. I’d go back to card games.

Because I’m part of the 1%… the BOTTOM 1% hehe… and I’m ok with that. But I wouldn’t expect a game to be catered to me. As long as I can jump some Vistas, and live through some fights with Spam-1, I can be happy the high end crowd have their Clocktower jumping puzzles, or PVP, or Explorable Dungeons, or whatever is the top tier difficulty in this game.

It’s not all about me, heh.
