Don't Punish Returning Players

One of the biggest meta-complaints that players from MMOs have had since the days of Everquest and before is that the worlds feel less than alive because they are static.

ANet give a taste of an evolving world and people go berserk.

Developers just can’t win.

Just because it’s different doesn’t mean that it’s good.

And just because YOU don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Why not add Duel.

Another point to address, “It’s simply change this code…” No chances are the coding isn’t a simple manner. If it were why wasn’t it added already? They have bigger issues to handle and if that were to ever occur it would have to wait.

What, you don’t think it would only take “a day”?

I was sort of okay with the article until I reached the Game of Thrones comparison. That sort of leads me to believe that Anet might actually believe that Scarlet’s story is… good story telling? George RR Martin could do better than Scarlet if he were deprived of Oxygen.

To me the comparison would fall flat IF they were saying the LS is on the same level as A Song of Ice and Fire , with all its myriad plot lines. However, this is the content of the paragraph:

“By its conclusion, Season One will have been developing for 15 months. What ArenaNet wanted to create was a complex plot that kept people theorising and speculating in the same way a show like A Game of Thrones (and the book series A Song of Fire and Ice beyond that) does – to have “people realise what the power of having a video game that can tell a story like a television show is”."

To my mind, this says only that they wanted to make it complex and keep people guessing. Well, they kinda did that…I saw a lot of people stating “I wonder what Scarlet is doing with these things this time.” Just because we know who is behind it doesn’t mean we know how things are going to work out, or really even WHY she is doing it.

It’s certainly not BAD storytelling. I mean, it’s not like a janitor from New Jersey got exposed to toxic waste and became a super hero. NO one would EVER watch something like that, right?

To be fair, Sylar was the best character in the whole series and was incredibly interesting. He had this Vegeta vibe to him that make him easy to relate to even though he was a “bad guy”. Scarlet is nowhere close to that developed.

He was interesting, no dispute there.
Scarlet would get crushed in competition.
I just get rather miffed that sometimes writers just don’t know how to let go of a character.

It reminds me of GM NPCs at a gaming table.

I don’t know how you can’t like Scarlet…after all, she can do fantastic stunts…with tiny feet, no less.

“Tyria really won’t be the same after it, and what happens at the end will also set up Season Two.”

This sentence does get me a little excited. What is going to change? o_O

We find out Scarlet is Trahearne .

That’s the assumption that should be made.

I don’t think too many people (any?) are saying WvW shouldn’t get Jumping Puzzles. The complaint, I believe, is that PvE content is being tied to WvW Jumping Puzzles.

Herein lies the problem…who says that achievements, in a general sense, are PvE content? If an achievement involves going into WvW, then it’s not PvE content.

… there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun and zones are all dead.

This is where your entire post breaks down. The assumptions that every zone is dead and that no one could conceivably enjoy single player / small-scale multi player are wrong.

Kinda drunk atm, not gonna read rest of thread but will reply to this……

The very same thing can be said for your reply.

The assumptions that every zone is not dead and that everyone can conceivably enjoy single player/ small scale multi player are wrong.

I’m not necessarily saying you are wrong, but you argument seems to be.

Yes, you must be drunk, since there is nothing in his post stating any of the assumptions you assert he made. Stating that assumptions that every zone is dead and no one can conceivably enjoy single player/ small scale multi player are wrong is not the same as saying the opposite is true.

ITT: people wearing shameful gear and not wanting to be called out on it

I use one character, cliche’ glass cannon, best possible gear in the game. And I am VERY against inspection.

How do you know it’s the best gear in the game? Did you let Broadicea.8294 check it out and tell you so?

Would I get suspended for this name?

From the EULA:

You may not select an Account ID, Account Display Name, NCSOFT Message Board ID, Character ID and/or Team designation, or provide any communication or information on any Message Board, that NCSOFT, in its sole and absolute discretion, deems to be vulgar, threatening, racist, sexist or otherwise offensive, including but not limited to references related to any religion or deity

The problem with these kind of rules is that they are hard to understand. What does " including but not limited to" mean? English is not my main language, but i understand it pretty well. However these kind of sentences just confuse the hell out of me. After reading it 10 times i still can’t figure out if you can or can’t use references to religions.

Also no-one reads the rules. At the end of the day anet could ban anyone without any reason. That’s how mmo’s work.

1. Including: Pretty much means that what comes after that is included in the list of things you cannot do, say, use, etc.

2. Not limited to: Just because something is NOT in the “including” list, it does not
mean you CAN do, say, use, etc.

3. Just because you choose not to read the rules does not mean they do not apply to you. If you click “I agree” (or whatever it is here), you agree to play by the rules you decided not to read.

Hard content needed for gw2's longevity.

TL;DR: Guild wars 2 caters too much to the casual player. It lacks hard content. Raids, nor the grinding of gear that comes with it, is not the solution to this. Introduce extremely challenging 5-10 man dungeons in which players must use understanding of the game, teamwork, and strategy and the few players that complete this are rewarded with prestige items. This will give players something to strive for and will definitely help with the longevity of the game.

STL;DR: No raids. Instead, mini-raids.

The only people who think it is arrogant to use a period at the end of a sentence in chat are morons who have no idea how to communicate with human beings.

The monthly has 7 options and you only need to do 4 of them. Therefore there is no reason that you “must” do jumping puzzles.

I’ll just strip my character’s armor off during April 1st and see how far he lives.
It will be Unseen Ones armor or something. Only the worthy can see my actual armor while everyone else thinks I’m a raving loon flailing a greatsword around.
