This post is directed to other introverts.

First I’d’ also like to clear up a few things about introverts (from my perspective) for those extroverts reading this. I am not shy, misanthropic and I don’t live in my parents basement (I AM a parent, and I don’t have a basement). As an introvert (again from my perspective) I don’t enjoy socializing for the sake of socializing. It doesn’t do anything for me, I find it burdensome. There’s nothing wrong with being social and I am glad the majority are, but it’s not my thing. I enjoy spending time with small groups of people in a task oriented setting, and in that setting I do enjoy socializing as a byproduct. I’m aware that I tend to sound patronizing in the way I write, it’s a typical introverted trait when addressing people we don’t know. It’s not intended. And lastly, before you remind me of the word multiuser in MMO let me clarify that multiuser is not synonymous with socializing.
</disclaimer>

How do you other introverts play GW2? Do you play solo, pugs, guild runs, play with one or two other specific people?

I mostly play solo. I look for meta’s and world bosses, I like the dynamics of fighting with a crowd. I really enjoy playing with one or two people I know IRL, but they are not as into the game as I am so it’s very infrequent. I’m not hardcore, but I do play almost every evening.

I’m in two guilds, but other than giving a “howdy” in the guild chat when I get on and the occasional forum post, I’m really not involved. Voice chat in guilds seem to be 90% social and 10% task. Nothing wrong with that of course, that’s how most people are, but again not my thing.

Too bad there’s not a “looking for another introverted player” feature.

Anyway, leave your comments on how you play as an introvert.

(Let’s not make this an “introvert vs extrovert”, “come out of your shell” or “it’s a multiuser game” thread.)

I don’t see how introvert you are when you are willing to start a thread about it.

Introverts can, and do, talk to people. Though I do spend a ridiculous amount of time composing my posts.

At it’s heart introversion is about where you gain and expend energy. Introverts (the minority) expend energy when engaged with other people (socializing) and recharge when alone. Extroverts (the majority) gain energy while engaged and expend when alone.

It’s not that introverts can’t be social, it’s just that we can’t do it for long before we are exhausted. We tend to be selective in how we socialize in order to conserve energy.

I know it sounds like a bunch of carebear talk, but there are actual chemical and neurological differences between introverts and extroverts.

Sorry for the lesson.

Season 3 Ending

in Living World

I disliked the fact they put down the mursaat thread so easily. They finally made a reappearance in episode 1 and 5 episodes later they’re dead and gone for good.

I didn’t play the original Guild Wars enough to have any attachment (good or bad) to the mursaat, but I can see how it would be different for someone who played it all the way through.

…it feels like we were lead down one story back just to swing back around when they change their mind.

It’s like there as a complete disconnect between the expansion team and the living world team. They created multiple stories for season 3 hoping one would link to the expansion. When the expansion team finally told them who we were going to fight they dropped everything else.

This has been a great thread (I hope it keeps going), I never though it would go past more that a few posts. It’s encouraging to know there are so many others playing the same as I do.

We should form a guild, and then never do any guildy stuff, no chat, no voip, no missions. Just have a tag that so if we run into each other we can /wave or /bow and continue on our separate ways.

Type of game vs player

I am an open PvE player, no raiding, dungeons or WvW. I do the occasional PvP or Fractal but not enough to matter. I also don’t craft, I salvage and sell everything.

For open PvE the story lines, dynamic events and boss’ are the thing to do, plus masteries if you have HoT and general exploring. I fully enjoy the game at level 80 and I’m really looking forward to open PvE in the expansion.

The personal story is has different paths depending on the race and chosen order up to the battle at claw island. I’ve made several characters to play each path, once I get to claw island I tend to delete them unless I really liked playing the character.

Living world season 2 is very good. If you are a new player you’d have to buy it at the gem store but it is well worth it.

The HoT story and living world season 3 are okay, the stories are a mess but it’s still a fun challenge playing through them. I did like the story in the last two episodes of season 3.

The boss events are fun, especially the harder ones. Once you’ve done them a few times you can start on the side achievements for each one.

The game has a lot of neat out of the way locations that I enjoy finding. Many of them serve no purpose in the game, but they show the care and attention that the devs gave to the maps. This mostly applies to the core maps.

Then there are all of the collections. I’m still trying to get all of those cats.

Hope that helps.

I assume you meant that extrovert enjoy the feelings of certain things while the introvert may get annoyed and tired of the same things ?

Not quite, it’s not about what you enjoy or don’t enjoy, that’s a personal preference. It’s about where your energy (physical/mental) is gained and lost. I enjoy many of the same things as extroverts, but I run out of steam quickly (quicker than is socially acceptable), and need to go away to recharge. I am blessed to have an mildly extroverted wife that understands this and doesn’t push me into social situations, and if I choose to engage she knows I will need to leave early.

I don’t really understand, base on multiple personality tests, I am both introvert and extrovert, something like a middle ground? /shrugs

It’s a sliding scale, most people are within the middle range leaning one way or the other. It’s when you are and the far end that it comes to the surface. This applies to introverts and extroverts. BTW, extremely extroverted people can drain extremely introverted people in a matter of minutes.

Pretty sure it has something to do with age and life experiences.

Your talking about psychological experiences, they do play a part. However, introverts process information in different parts of the brain than extroverts. Introverts also have a less active dopamine system. Dopamine is the drug in your brain that provides reward and pleasure, the high feeling you have when something exciting is happening. Because it’s less active in introverts it can cause them become overstimulated by things most people get excited about.

I don’t mean to lecture, sorry. It’s one of those things that are commonly misunderstood since we live in an extroverted world.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s interesting to see everyone’s take on playing the opposite gender. Since I play both, according to some of the posts I am either out of touch with my inner self, not secure with my masculinity, misogynistic, effeminate, insecure, overly confident or some combination of them.

I tend to play male characters because I’m a guy, I naturally gravitate towards male characters. I do play female characters but it’s usually because something prompts me like the ridiculous looking male Norn physique, the butt ugly male Asura faces, or things like gender locked classes in other games.

Some folks mentioned that you need to have a connection with your characters, I suppose if you RP then it might be important, but otherwise I disagree. I do give my characters a bit of a personality, mostly to dictate what skins/outfits they use, but aside from that I can’t say I have a connection with them.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

The older you get, the more likely you play a character of opposite gender. My interpretation of that is that the older you get, the less kittens you have left to give. When you are young, you are more concerned about what other people think about you, and the other sex is strange. Boys do not do girly things, right? When you are a man, you can do what you want. This is purely my interpretation of it, feel free to have a different one.

What he/she/other said… at least for me.

PoF Demo - Feedback

What I liked.
Mounts: I was firmly in the anti-mount camp, not any more. I really like how they implemented the mounts, at least the raptor. It feels weighty, a little ungainly, and not all that fast. I think it serves it’s purpose well.

Map: I really like the map, it reminds me more of the core maps. It’s not all crammed together, you find little towns and other spots along the way. Amnoon is great, it’s so visually different from the other maps. I really enjoyed the attention to detail that I haven’t seen since the core maps.

Bounties: Call up a champion at your leisure. As someone mentioned, you can’t solo them but you can defeat them with two average players.

Water: Except for an event, I wasn’t constantly attacked by everything under water (I didn’t see a single thundershrimp). I really don’t enjoy underwater combat.

Events: Again, something more like the core maps. The demo was a bit lite on events, but I suspect that’s because it was a demo. I don’t think you can run a meta, or continuing dynamic events when you can’t go that far from the city.

Doylaks: I liked how they have a completely different look, something you’d expect when on a different continent. I didn’t play GW1 enough to know if they looked the same.

No gliding? Sacrifice your mount: Gliding is nice, it’s more than nice, it’s awesome. But if you skip HoT you don’t have to climb back down that hill. Your mount will break your fall, it may even give up it’s life for you. I tried to jump across a huge canyon (I really didn’t think I would make it) and fell into a valley of hydras. My raptor didn’t make it, but came through unscathed and ready to take on some hydras. My daughter wasn’t so sure so she kind of slid down the side of the cliff.

What I didn’t care for, or have concerns over.
Unidentified Gear: Yeah, that.

Ease: I found the mobs to be somewhat easy. It could be that it was toned down since anet knew there would be boosted people playing. I played with my twin 10 y/o daughters, their max levels are 37 and 26. They both made it through the initial episode with only a little guidance, and only one of them got downed. Out in the desert they had little trouble taking on mobs with me. Even when battling two hydras, a land shark (I know it’s a sand shark, go back and watch early SNL), and those annoying sand eels (man, they sneak up on you) all at once. I’m not saying it was easy for them, it was a challenge, but not frustrating (I’m looking at you HoT).

Unidentified Gear: It deserves to be listed twice.

Overall I was really happy with the demo. That being said, I am not happy with what anet did to the ranger in the last patch. But that’s for another thread.
