I did not know that about the overcharge. Thanks for letting me know. It was not lag because I tried it in underpopulated pve areas as well as running speedtests to check my local connection. Before Friday I could lay it down and instantly get the waterfield to appear by just pressing the 6 button right after laying down the turret which would instantly overcharge it however the overcharge casts but the waterfield won’t activate till about 3 seconds later. I did not have any issues with this last week. It just started up on Friday.
I play WvWvW for about 95% of my total game time and run Healing Turret with my build. Starting yesterday I noticed something strange about the way my Healing Turret has been acting. Typically when I need a heal I would lay down my healing turret, Overcharge it which would produce a water field right away and then blast it for additional healing. Every time I overcharge my healing turret now I have to wait roughly 3 seconds for the waterfield to show up. If I lay down my healing turret, overcharge it once then wait till the cd is up and use overcharge a second time the water field shows up instantly. It seems to only have a delay the very first time I overcharge it. This is the only skill I’m having issues with on any of my characters but it seems consistent now. I just tested this out in Lion’s Arch and I’m still seeing the same behavior. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

ughh, so Sor just got a guild in it with 9 commanders. Why dont you guys transfer over to 2nd or 3rd place servers -_-
Wait, there are guilds in SoR besides Choo? jk. I do give Choo props for having the best guild name I’ve seen.
We take alot of pride in it. We even /shout Choo Choo! when charging into battle
Personally I prefer shouting Choo Choo Motherkitteners and then I imagine I’m Thomas the Train Engine obliterating the enemies.

I too would like more PvE events in WvW.
I’m certainly not a fan of pure PvP, but in WvW where there’s things to do other than just killing some other player (JP, Patrols, Events, Champions) it feels more natural than only one type (PvE or PvP).I would actually love to get more PvE contents (like the dragon discussed).
As in a real battle, when a greater evil than your actual opponents shows up, you gotta turn for it or you’ll all die. It would be very nice to see a castle being assaulted and during the assault, an horde of undead comes in to wipe everybody :-)

It’s not about being close minded. Most people want only pvp because no matter how advanced your coding is a PvE enemy will be scripted. There will only be so many things it can do before we have completely figured everything out about the enemy then it becomes incredibly easy. When fighting other players in pvp there is constant change of strategy. You may come across the same situation multiple times but have to use a different method to solve it. Fighting players adds complexity and difficulty. With the player limits on the map if people are focusing on the raid bosses then we don’t have enough players to defend our keep or tower and end up losing it. This is frustrating to the pvp crowd because we had enough people to defend but they were all killing a raid boss that only drops 5 badges but keeps thirty players preoccupied for 20 minutes.
Doesn’t matter as long as you have a hammer equipped! Hammers all the way.
I believe adding more PvE raid bosses would not help the situation. It may get more people into WvWvW but they would not be participating towards taking a base and instead killing the raid boss which takes a fairly large chunk of players for a significant amount of time. We have lost SM due to a group of 30 killing the grub just because we happened to have been blue which is the side the grub spawns on. I believe adding raid bosses would not be a problem if there was no cap on player limit but unfortunately since these are battlegrounds and not a World PvP map we need the people in the map focusing on taking strategic points to gain victory because every player counts when there is a limit.
The fights yesterday on SBI borderlands were quite fun. Looking forward to the skirmishes tonight. USA will be out for blood!

A lot of people seem to be slanting what side the coordination is on during a portal bomb. Defending Greenbriar last night, IoJ portal bombed us with 50+ people to our 15 or so. We knew they were going to try it so we set up siege, made a choke point, and dropped CC and AoE on the exit portal while bombarding it with siege. We wiped their entire force without losing more than 1-2 people in the battle. If people don’t know that a portal is coming, it works the exact same way as a flank. The enemy defeated you with surprise and not culling. If you know a portal is coming, the enemy is walking right into a massacre. Coordination works both ways. Portal is a tactic that isn’t “faceroll” any more. You need to be careful when and where you place it and you need to come out of the portal using the proper abilities. If you are defending against a portal, you set up your siege, you get your guardians up front, you activate your AoE, you use your siege, and you collect your badges.
Does anyone see the common factor here? COORDINATION. That’s right, a guild in VoIP has a marked advantage over a force that is not a single guild or not communicating at the same level. So what is the solution here? Nerf voice chat? I don’t think so. Portal is only as effective as the group that is using it. Portal in no way means that you will win an engagement or even that you have a better chance to. It is another layer to tactics and assault options that the game provides. Sure, it is the flavor of the month right now, but as long as everyone keeps screaming that it is OP instead of coordinating to counter it, groups will keep using them against you. I really hate using this phrase, but it is honestly a learn to play issue. I can’t wait until Ring of Warding is regarded as OP or we go back to Hundred Blades being too good or whatever the next fotm is for WvW that people don’t want to bother learning to counter. It seems they’d much rather come here and cry about things being challenging instead.

So they portal bombed in front of your siege and not behind your group or on the siege? lol. I don’t believe you when you claim 15 to 50. Did you use the broken down gate as a chokepoint? Everything about your reply screams hyperbole. Portals in their current state are making WvWvW more stale everyday. It is the most efficient method to flank enemies and therefore the only method used. I use portal bombs all the time and I get portal bombed all the time. I see nothing challenging about using the portal or getting people to use them. I have a blue badge and just turn it on and say stack. It needs to be limited to 10 people. It would actually require skill because you would have to make sure that only 10 people are stacked on each portal not to mention that all of your mesmers make it to the enemies flank. It would be less mindless than it currently is. I don’t care about portal’ing into keeps at all. I would prefer longing sieges by having to think of strategies to get inside the outer wall forcing our way through the chokepoint or creating a distraction but it seems most people do not want the ability to port into a keep taken away.
I hate that the colors are based on place in the tier. It is driving me crazy being blue for so long. We were blue for a month straight, 1 week red, then blue again for the past 2-3 weeks. We have been moving up in the tiers we just get unlucky that when we move up we get put in second place.
Personally I haven’t figured out countering portals yet. I assume the main method would be to see it before it happens, but I’ve found that to be really hard. Nevertheless, I don’t mind their current implementation.
I don’t want to question their balance until the culling bug is fixed.
They have annnounced they are working on fixing culling but what if it is never fixed. This is a server/engine limitation. It is possible that they will reduce it but never fix it. The issue currently with countering portals is that when the enemies all come through the portal they are stacked together. Our AoE is limited to 5 targets so we can’t focus down the group with AoE because we all won’t be hitting the same targets. I don’t even care about the portal with culling but it has become the only strategy because it is extremely quick and efficient. I was looking for long drawn out battles with the attackers having to outsmart the defenders to breach their castle however as soon as a wall goes down. One mesmer will run inside stealthed up so they will not be seen and portal everyone in. I just find it less fun.

I really like the idea. What I would love to see would be an orb that would pulse a radar in the keep for 20 seconds that would show the location of enemies in the keep so we would not have to mesmer sweep

Hell yea. I love my server. We never give up no matter the score. We will fight till we are battered, bruised, and bloodied. Then we will get back up and do it again. It is a complete blast on Sanctum of Rall.
So last night in EB we found out that we can have at least 11 commanders on the map. We thought the limit was 9 but… I guess we’ll have to turn on more and more until we find out. It was incredibly funny with all of us running around. It was a lot of fun. Hope to have some good battles tonight.
It’s good you feel that way. I disagree and find the game a lot less enjoyable with mesmer portals as out of control as they are right now. I play on Sanctum of Rall which is currently in 2nd place in Tier 2 on the US rankings. Everything we do or our enemies do typically involves multiple mesmer bombs. It’s gotten old. It works which is why we all do it but I find it stale. Because of this skill Mesmers are the most sought after class in WvWvW. Just my two cents. Glad you are enjoying the game
In my opinion portals just make the game less fun. We use them all the time and unfortunately it has become so good that it is involved in almost every single strategy. We could try other strats however they just won’t be as effective without a portal. It’s easier to have one mesmer to run in stealth behind the enemies then it is to get a large group to circle around and move behind the enemies while the other force is still attacking from the front. I think a cap would fix this because then it would require a lot more organization and skill to pull off. You would have to make sure you have the exact amount of people that can go through the portal on each individual portal or else people will get left behind not to mention that you will have to have each mesmer make it through enemy lines.
To the poster having issue with saboteurs, while I understand your frustration of having Saboteurs / Spies, etc. It’s all part of the fun and keeps the weekly matches from becoming stale (especially now since it’s obvious the BG vs SOR vs IOJ identical matches has been going on for weeks.
Besides, throughout history there have been numerous spies/saboteurs in the real world. It’s all part of the “game” when it comes to warfare….

Making this change could potentially eliminate the use of balistas in WvWvW. They are already very situational and primarily used to counter siege in places that AoE cannot hit. Balistas have to be able to have line of sight. Because the balista is forced to have a line of sight there are very few places that it can be placed to hit siege/players safely out of range of AoE. If players are aware of it they can just zig zag to avoid the balista shots and never get hit. With this change hitting people would be even more of a challenge that it already is.

I have a better idea .. cancel all upgrades .. and let´s all zerg, all day long .. how about it? If you take the garrison, we will Bay & the third server Hills – then we can take rounds .. run in circles! Follow the blue dot! Go, go, go ..Mortars and others featured weapons like cannons and OIL pot of tower/keeps can be hit by Aoe (expect SM’s and few tower mortars) but Siege on top of Depots cannot be hit with Aoe.

Oil is useless because of AoEs being able to hit it. It keeps players off of it because of the massive damage going ontop of them. It is basically seen as just additional health added onto the gate. Cannons on the other hand do a significant amount of ranged damage. You can actually hit people before they can AoE you unlike the oil. If you have sucessfully defended a tower with a lower number of defenders than attackers then you will realize it is not because of the cannons and oil but because of the arrow carts and catapults. Without these you would have to have an equal defending force to fend off attackers due to oil and cannons being taken out to easily. Anyway back on topic in most cases you can take out trebs on top of the supply depot with a counter balista/catapult. If you can’t get a good shot with those then you can always counter treb their siege which is highly effective. This makes more interesting tactics than just AoE’ing the walls until all the siege is gone. By removing spots they can place siege that can’t be hit by AoE then you are virtually removing the upperhand that the defending team has inside their own keep. Not to mention that if they are built in AoE range then one person can lock down that siege because of spamming AoE in the area also hits the player which will cause them have to get off the siege to stay alive. It is already way too easy to take towers/keeps. I’d say garrisons are the only places that actually feel difficult to take.

Yesterday was rough in EB. Props to Blackgate for dominating most of EB. It was difficult to reclaim territory. We tried to stop your golem rush but it proved to be too much to handle. I can’t wait to get back in there tonight.

Lol this is entirely true.
The defending zerg would have to be aware that a portal bomb is currently in progress. The defenders need to roll away from the portal while keeping AoE attacks on the portal exit. This is done because as soon as the enemies come out of the portal they will be spamming AoE so you want to be at max range if possible. If you have any siege you are going to want the siege spamming the AoE portal exits because they are not limited by caps on max targets. After that it is an invisible zerg that everyone tab targets while spamming AoE on those targets and hope you win
These fights have been intense all over. IoJ and Blackgate, yall are extremely challenging oppponents. Hope to have some more interesting fights in the upcoming battles.

From what my guild and I gathered it is so many people all doing damage within a certain radius. We believe once you hit 4-5 people doing damage while still being near eachother then crossed swords will appear. This will also happen to gates occasionally when auto-attacking gates. We typically send it groups of two to take out guards so as not to bring up the yellow cross swords.
Being blue isn’t so bad. We are blue currently and we sometimes use it to hit stonemist or prevent siege from going against our towers. There is also another easier way to take out those trebs.
Last night in EB was rough but incredibly fun. When I first logged in we had nothing. Our server was working together extremely well and reclaimed our side plus Klovan and Veloka. These fights were incredibly tough but felt rewarding. Blackgate and IoJ are tough opponents that I look forward to fighting some more.
I would like to welcome Knight of Flowers and Silvannas to the status of Commander from Caedas [CDS]! After spending a great deal of time with me and learning my methods and how to increase player morale/organization, they became WvW Officers for CDS and we farmed commander tags for the both of them! As such, CDS will be able to assist more with overnight coverage during my absences because of this bullkitten thing called working to pay bills. /cry
We had a bunch of fun in EB with you all. Looking forward to playing together in the future. EB tonight was a blast. IoJ were incredibly sneaky and took Stonemist before we realized it. Looking forward to the reset tomorrow to get a fresh start.
I don’t see in any way how portals are GAME-BREAKING. Lol…
Considering this is now the strategy to do anything in WvWvW it is game-breaking. It would be a lot more strategic to have to get five mesmers to port 5 people each to the enemy zerg than having one mesmer able to port 25 people in at once. Here is a rundown of how difficult it is to combat a mesmer portal if they have basic class knowledge.
1. Mesmers can put the starting portal where the enemies are not able to see it or the people stacking on it. The enemies will not know to look out for a mesmer bomb.
2. Mesmers have a three second stealth and add about a second of culling issues plus a blink which is more than enough to get through the front of the enemy zerg and lay down a portal without being seen so the mesmer won’t get killed or stopped before making it to the designated spot.
3. As soon as the portal is lain down it activates. That means that even if the enemy calls it out right away, they will turn around fast enough to see AoE start forming everywhere around them because the zerg has already gone through.
4. If you were to spot the portal before the enemies came through then you could start laying down AoE except when their zerg comes through the damage will be mitigated because of the cap on targets hit using AoE is 5.
5. The enemies coming through the portal are invisible. The enemies never render coming out of the portal however I have noticed that when we are the ones doing the bombing about 50% of the time the enemies models will stay loaded.
6. They can return to safety if it does indeed fail by taking the portal return before it disappears.
There is no thought in it. Tonight even after the nerf it was used in every single fight no matter how many enemies or allies. This does not need a cooldown nerf it needs a cap on people that can port through. It’s just getting stale that this is the current best tactic in the game and every side is forced to use it to stay competitive and to take advantage of this skill.
It was a fun last night in EB. It was a difficult fight to reclaim our bases but we pushed back hard and actually took Ogrewatch and Klovan for a period of time. Looking forward to the fights tonight.
People won’t be happy with this game until the only coordination one needs is the ability to synchronize banging your face against a door.

Portal stacking in the open is easy to defend against. Just move back a bit from the big purple shining thingy and place yourself accordingly.
Portal in keep defense/attack – lay down (siege) AOE on the big purple shining thingy. It’s not like they neither have indefinite range nor time they stay open.It’s not the portal killing people. It’s enemy organization and lack of same which kills you.
(The rendering issues needs to be fixed though, but that’s a universal problem)
Unfortunately this is not true. There is not a defense against portals if the mesmer knows what they are doing. For example as soon as you see that purple disc the entire zerg have just gone through it already. Now let’s say we start spamming AoE on the circle. AoE only hits five targets yet we have twenty that can through the portal all stacked up on each other. The damage will be randomly hitting targets and won’t be focusing on the same five targets so you cannot AoE them down. Two guardians have popped their wall of reflection and now your ranged AoE has become useless and used against you. Their team will be spamming AoE heals to keep everyone up at full health. This is all done while they are still invisible due to culling. I played on Sanctum of Rall currently in Tier 2. Portal bombs are now standard everywhere. It is getting really old. I’m not talking about inside forts because I could not careless about doing a mesmer sweep but portal bomb tactics are done constantly everywhere.There is not a place we go without one side portal bombing another. I believe limiting the portal to five targets will fix this issue while still keeping it relevant.
We had a blast last night in EB. Our guild went to EB because we had noticed that everything on it was taken by Sea of Sorrows. We had to fight tooth and nail and had about an hour and a half siege on our keep against Sea of Sorrows. It was a blast. Hope to see yall again tonight.

I prefer the borderlands especially an enemy borderland. It is incredibly rewarding working your way towards the enemies main garrison.

Hrmm, SoR getting second this week actually wouldn’t be so bad… SoS would go to T2 with their round the clock zergball and Crystal Desert with their lack of a sustained population would fall to T4. That’d make way for an SoR-Eredon-Tarnished Coast match-up that looks promising to me!
Interestingly enough, SoR had an extremely strong night presence during the weekend and gained 20k plus points on Sunday early morning and day. Not sure what happened last night (I’m guessing people work during the week) but SoS played PvDoor to make it up (I’m on SoS btw).
N/A primetime has been really fun during the weekend and I felt pretty even.
Oh and one more thing. Even if SoR won this match, as long as SoS came in second, SoS would still move up to the next tier and SoR would stay in T3.
If u were on the BL, u would know why. our chatbox was full of dirty words about SoR exploiters and hackers, i believe that was a new transfer guild to SoR called DEVS.
SoS players almost reported every SoR shown on screen, it was kind of funny to watch…
Please report any characters you see hacking but do not report everyone from that server. That is extremely distasteful. We do not condone hacking and will report them as soon as we see them doing it on our side. I have been on SoR since Day 1 and have never heard of DEVS.

I find the each class has a pretty good counter to it so I don’t think the balance is as bad as it is made to seem. The one class I don’t enjoy going against is a thief but not because I’m not able to kill them or they kill me too easily but that they can escape almost every time if they know what they are doing.
